Looking for Elec/Nin Guide

As the title says, looking for (modern) guides to Elec/, /Nin, and Elec/Nin would be wonderful.

Thanks.

It's an awesome guide, however, I am also looking for specific build suggestions. I want to cap Defense, so I am thinking that would be easier with /SR, right? Plus you get quickness, for extra recharge.

I'm the kind of person that generally avoids powers like caltrops, that you have to place and use like a trap. Plus the Smoke Flash power in Ninjitsu isn't a true Placate that you can crit after.

So I am leaning now toward more of an Elec/SR build - although I am unhappy to give up the heal I would get from Ninjitsu. Is it possible to softcap Def in Ninjitsu, and if so, how? With what specific build?

Or would it be more effective capping with /SR, giving possibly more room to take Hasten, 2 or 3 Concealment powers for LotG's, etc?

By the way, I have 2-4 billion INF I would be willing to put into this character build, but I do NOT want to use purple sets I want something I can be slotting as I level the character.

Thoughts?

I have an elc/nin with over the softcapp, 3 LOTGs 7.5, with the only purples being the LOTGs. I also have an older build on the threads somewhere with softcapp to all positions, but you will have to use your search-fu to find it.
Mine only cost 1.5-2.5 bill

My search-fu is weak, else I wouldn't have posted the request ;(

I've got an old one too, which I can post when I get off of work tonight.

SR is a little easier to softcap, but nin really isn't that difficult. You can easily do it with your budget. I do recommend one purple set (even though you want to avoid them), because it is cheaper than the rest and offers a large chunk of ranged defense to help with softcapping. It's the Coercive Persuasion confuse set, which just so happens to fit in a /nin stalker's Blinding Powder.

Other than that, SR gets two things to trade for Nin's heals and toys.
-SR has scaling resists (not as helpful on a Stalker as a Scrapper or Brute because of lower hp) and knockback protection. SR also gets up to 95% Defense Debuff Resistance, which means defense debuffs do little more than tickle you.
-Nin has the heal, obviously, which is a big deal because it is uninterruptible (unlike Aid Self, which SR users generally take), and it gives you some toxic resistance. Nin also gets resistance to Psi, which is a damage type that is sometimes not covered by the positional defenses of the two sets, in which case SR hurts a bit. If you use a knockback protection IO, Nin actually has no mez weaknesses, unlike SR. Nin still has respectable DDR, though part of it is in its tier 9 power. Nin also has toys like Blinding Powder and Caltrops.

*Big deal for me: SR has to wait until level 35 to get its AoE defense, but Nin has it baked in with its ranged defense toggle.

You are right that Smoke Flash is generally crappola; even if you wanted it, you could buy the temp power version off of the market instead. You do not have to use Caltrops as a trap. You can just throw it down as you are fighting something for some mitigation and actually solid dps over time. (Caltrops also has a specific use for an elec/nin, which I cover in the posts following the guide; you probably don't want to skip it for that reason alone).

Here is my active build. Please note that I'm capped to all positions, but Mid's doesn't necessarily show it because of how it calculates Hide. He just dinged 49 on a task force a couple of nights ago, and his build is almost complete. He is a blast to play.

This is a generally "ok" build someone posted a long time ago (way before inherent fitness). You can use it as another reference for ways to get to the softcap. One thing, don't pay attention to the order that powers are chosen here, as it seems somewhat random.

Thank for the help, gonna loads those into MIDs and play around - if I can get a /Nin to softcap, I *do* love it's two side benefits - early AOE help and a self heal. I just felt I *had* to do /SR to get to cap without crippling my build. Hopefully your posted builds prove otherwise.

I few quick questions that leap to mind:

1) Why do so many of the builds have SuperSpeed with Celerity Stealth? That's a combo I get for most every other AT I run, but with Hide, what's the point? I figured I could get Ninja Run + Sprint and save a power slot for something else, like an LotG mule.

2) It seems that none of the builds have perma hasten. Do I infer correctly that perma hasten and soft capped positional defense are mutually incompatible, because you can't get both sets that lower recharge *and* sets that increase defense?

3) I always try to slot in either a Def or a Res KB IO protector. I don't think /Nin protects from KB, correct? So why do people not get the IO in their build - do you get KB prot from somewhere else, or just live with the KB?

4) This whole thread is to settle on a build for the Journey to 50, but once I hit 50, would this character be suitable for incarnate gaming? If so, I would *then* be up for buying a lot of purples if that could help and doing a respec - or would the adding purples to the mix hurt more than help since they do not increase Def? Also, in doing incarnate gaming post 50, should I be worried that if I go with /Nin, I don't have much Def debuff protection, and instead prefer /SR which can't easily have it's Def debuffed?

5) (added) if I *do* play this character post 50, what are the ramifications that getting the super duper rare Alpha slot has for doing a respec on a Def based electric stalker?

Thanks again.

Quick note: I will never PvP with this guy, I only PvE.

One more additional quick note: To deal with any potential End worries, I always try to fit in Numina +End, Miracle +End, PerfShifter+End, and fully Slotted Stamina.

-There are multiple -kb procs not just the one that goes in res. mine is in recall friend
-if your going to never pvp, remove spirit shark and put slots in blinding powder and put the purple set in there, for my build. It will provide more recharge and higher range def.
-I put the stealth proc in superspeed for higher stealth for the slight pvping i do with this build
-I use the cardiac rare, so my end problems are nonexistent

1) SS with a stealth proc helps for pvp, so you can ignore those if you are never going to pvp. Likewise, spirit shark in these builds is for its pvp strength.

2) You can actually get both the softcap and perma hasten, but it likely will require some purple sets or the Spiritual Alpha; using more common IO sets makes it slightly more difficult.

3) Unless you have acrobatics, you do need a kb protection IO.

4) It will be perfectly suitable for incarnate stuff. The problem I find in incarnate content is not so much the def debuffs, but the higher +tohit of some mobs (64% instead of 50%). With either nin or sr just carry around/create extra lucks to bridge that gap when you come to it, and you will be fine.

5) Cardiac is very helpful for endurance, so you could focus on recharge and defense. With Spiritual you can focus less on recharge and worry about defense and endurance. Nerve is not a good choice because it does not add significantly to your stats; same for Musculature.

Musculature, ie, extra damage does not add significantly?

What about a Core Paragon, ie 45% pre-ED damage boost? That's like a 32% damage boost across the boards. And wouldn't the Acc boost of Nerve help out versus the harder to hit Incarnate content? Also, with Numina/Miracle/PerfShifter/3 slotted Stam/IOSets won't that make my end need almost nonexistant, rendering Cardiac unnecessary?

I am a little confused.

Edit: solved one point of confusion - you were saying the 64% +tohit was *their* chance to hit *me* - I originally thought you meant that *they* were harder to hit. That increased to hit does I guess make a Def based character in a little more trouble. How does that work? If I have (somehow) gotten a Def boost of 59%, does that mean that they are back to a 5% to hit me?

And to reverse that, with a 45% Def, normal content has a 1 in 20 chance to hit me normally, does incarnate content have a 19% chance to hit me, or about 1 in 5? Because if so, going from one in 20 to one in 5 is going to be a big nasty change!

Someone tell me I didn't do the math right.

Musculature- it's because it adds to base damage, and because most of it is so resisted until you get to the rare/very rare level that the first two tiers add nearly nothing. It just doesn't quite give as much to a build in general, especially the lower your AT base damage.

Nerve- (you solved ); 59% would indeed be the softcap for 64% tohit mobs. If you do normal softcap of 45%, and then pop a small purple when you come across these guys, you will be at 57.5%, so pretty darn close to softcap again.

Cardiac- You may be self-sufficient with all of that, and you may not; it depends on the final build you come up with. I tend to run several extra toggles to help with the softcap, and my endurance is not completely sustainable by itself. If you can avoid using it, great; Spiritual boosts your recharge as well as your heal, while Cardiac doesn't do much else for you besides endurance.

You did the math right. Luckily it hurts just about everyone, not just defense characters. It sort of brings defensive sets a little more in line with resistance based sets. It also means you would be wise to bring other forms of mitigation: Caltrops, Blinding Powder, Kuji-in Sha, Kuji-in Retsu, Tough, Hibernate, Waterspout. Then again, these mobs with higher tohit are still not everywhere in newer content, just Battle Maiden and tip-mission Devouring Earth so far.

Hmm, then it would seem that none of the four alpha slot sets yield that much of a bonus, I guess recharge is probably the best - getting one's attacks speed up, even if by just a little, increases dps; and if I go /ninja which is looking more and more attractive, especially due to the heal, it means I can use that heal more frequently.

I am still an Incarnate noob - did I read somewhere that you can craft more than one alpha slot enhancement, and swap them in and out?

Alternatively, the Radial Paragon for Musculature would yield 33% Damage and 33% End, with a 2/3 ED protection.

I guess what I need to do is check MIDs and see how much damage goes up with Core Paragon Musc overall, and compare that to Radial Paragon Musc, compared to the recharge that Core Paragon Spiritual would yield in real terms (eg, how much faster would the heal be ready), plus it would boost the amount of the heal as it also enhances Healing.

Question: Since (I think) the Paragon include a level shift, can one safely ignore Nerve? How much Accuracy does one want to have going into incarnate content? For that matter, Nerve (Core Paragon) gives you a 20% Defense Buff (12% I think after ED), is that appreciable, or ignorable? If I understand that right, having 17.6 unenhanced defense would add a paltry +2.1% Def. Or do I multiple the 12% by the 45% to get a boost of 5.4%?

So many choices, so torn.

Thoughts?

(Additional thought: Would the Recharge/Spirit Alpha cause your Incarnate abilities like Lore and Destiny to recharge faster? Or are those unenhanceable even by global buffs?)

Yup.

As long as you mean 33% EndMod, then yes.

That's the best thing to do unless you start from the ground up with a specific Alpha in mind.

You are right on all counts, which is why Nerve is quite unpopular. Some people find that small amount of extra defense worth it, though.

My understanding from what I have read is that, so far (beta so still changing), things like lore and destiny are only affected by the Alpha you have slotted, not by any other global bonus. If this stays the same, Musculature becomes more attractive, and Spiritual remains so.

Well then, perhaps Spiritual, given that it increases Recharge and therefor DPS, and makes those Very Long Incarnate recharges more bearable, and further more increase Ninjitsu's Heal may be the way to go.

Core Paragon Alpha Recharge can also help gain back global recharge I give up for global def.

Time for me to start crunching some builds, and see if I can do a Elec/Ninja stalker with my Unique IO's [Miracle, Numina, PerfShifter, a -KB one, the Def one, any others that see worth it] as well as 3 slotted Stamina. And of course soft capped Def, which is of primary import. Time for me to dissect he shared builds and rebuild in he image of all of what we have been discussing.

One last question - any reason (given my playstyle and no PvP) not to go with Ninja Run+Sprint+Swift for my base travel power, saving a power pick? (Obviously will pick up a jetpack or two as well.)

It's perfectly fine to do that, especially since Kuji-in Retsu adds movement speed and can be used as a ghetto travel power for times when you may be locked out of ninjarun/jetpack.

I saw you were looking for a build and this one is mine: you can substitute the purples for stuff similar to it) It has great defense and has LR comming back at 25sec which is just darn sexy but none the less...

Your AOE defense appears to be not softcapped when Hide is compromised?

Eh.. AoE Defense sits at 42.5% which for me works just fine if your THAT worried about that then mess around with the build I am sure you can pump up the defense without a problem.. On my build I focused more on the Melee aspect as you can tell it is sitting at 57.5%... If you want you can certainly find a way to less that a build more AoE D.

"2) It seems that none of the builds have perma hasten. Do I infer correctly that perma hasten and soft capped positional defense are mutually incompatible, because you can't get both sets that lower recharge *and* sets that increase defense?"

-Is it possible? Of course it can be possible, but like someone posted above would prob require some Purple sets :P

-I throw in the KB Protection in the Heal which helps out a ton! And I found out that in PVE slow is not really an issue for me anywho so you can always throw in a BotZ -4 KB in Combat Jumping which would pretty much stops the KB ^^

-P.S. If you pick up Nerve you hit soft cap AoE Defense with my build.. but I like my Musculature :P

Lalow, what about Spiritual for the Alpha? Not only do you get everything up sooner (including an even *faster* LR), it gives you a boost to your Heal as well as being one of the few ways to reduce the recharge on the following Incarnate abilities?
