Strongest AoE potential on a Brute Primary
stone melee is my favorite attack primary, despite it's low damage potential compared to other sets (though of course what it lacks in dps is makes up for with burst damage and control). With a second tier spiritual alpha and 125% global recharge with hasten running my pylon time is 18 minutes - a far cry from other sets with similar alpha and recharge.

However it does have some of the absolute best soft mitigation available, along with a collection of really hard hitting ST attacks.
However I don't think your pylon results are indicative of what Stone Melee can truly do.
Are you running this attack chain?
Seismic Smash/Stone Fist/Gloom/Stone Fist/Heavy Mallet
This is the attack chain you should most likely be running and IIRC - you should have better ST DPS than an equivalent SS build.
I'm not positive of the recharge requirements, but if you are capable of running that chain you should be doing a pylon in under 18 minutes.
If you would be interested in improving your pylon time, make a separate thread.
In no order, DB; Fire; Elec; Claws; SS.
If I were to order them:
Elec
DB
Claws
Fire
SS
SS is last because frankly, it has one AOE that does damage. It's a great aoe, but you can't chain it with 3 other AoE's like you can in Dual Blades (1K Cuts, Sweeping Strike, Typhoon, Sweep Combo, Attack Vitals Combo) or Elec (Thunderstrike, L-Rod, Jacob's Ladder) or even Claws (Eviscerate, Spin, Shockwave).
My guides:Dark Melee/Dark Armor/Soul Mastery, Illusion Control/Kinetics/Primal Forces Mastery, Electric Armor

With SOs this may be true. When you factor in high recharge builds, your secondary and patron/epic powers SS blows them all away. Sure DB has 3 AoE attacks they can chain together. With high recharge, you can chian together Footstomp, Burn and Fireball. That tends to do a bit more damage compared to a high recharge DB build.

Yep, if you have JUST SS your AoE aint gonna be THAT great.
But its got some sweet mitigation as well as good dmg.

Fiery Aura is only good for farming, I'm cereal
@Caucasiafro
Valid point. A DB will do better than SS if the only AOE the SS has is Footstomp and we are only talking SOs. I may argue with you on the order but not the fact that at basline levels, all those others are better than SS for AoE.
Just goes to show that insane levels of recharge can create some crazy builds.
Tremors main problem is the dreadfully long animation time with the low damage payoff. Spending all that animation time literally hanging around will really hurt your DPS compared to other AOE powers, especially as you head into high recharge in the powers concerned.

Tremor's activation time is just over a second longer than footstomp, not sure if that is enough reason to discount Tremor

It's not all negatives though, basically with Tremor you get a power with 14s rech (better than Footstomp, 20s) with as large of a radius (15', rare among PBAoEs for melee ATs), with an equivalent ability to KD (0.67, 80% Chance).
And it's in a set that has better PAoE softcontrols (Fault > Handclap) and better overall Single Target attacks.
I know this is thread necromancy, but I just wanted to take the time to thank those who posted for their advice on this matter. The Brute in question, Fyren Kashari, is now 47. He is a beast, and not just because I have made use of the Animal Pack.
Thanks again everyone, you've been a big help! ^.^/
I'm a big fan of my SS/Shld brute. Rage + AAO + Fury + Shield Charge + Footstomp = me happy. And as far as endurance issues - three 6 slotted sets of Performance Shifter fix that easily
SS/WP is a solid combination too. Before I had my fire/kin (or brute) I would use my WP/SS tank for farming. And even on a tank, the damage was fairly decent.
On a side note, vet powers such as Sands of Mu, Black Wand and Nem Staff aren't affected by rage crashes.
Anywho, good luck with the brute They sure are fun!
