Playing CoH from a portable hard drive

Has anyone tried this? Is it feasible, or even possible, to load a copy of CoH on a portable hard drive and take it from computer to computer to play?

The problem is the hardware settings is stored in the Window's registry and that's machine specific and is initially setup by the installer/updater. You could extract the games specific registry entry and load it on the new machine but I believe you will still need admin level privileges.

Now if you do get the game installed, pointing to the portable drive, you should know that USB 2 caps out at 30-35MB/s, compared to 80-100MB/s with the latest crop of SATA II, 7200RPM drives, so you may experience longer than normal load times. If your connection is eSATA or USB 3.0 this shouldn't be a problem.

That's pretty cool...maybe I'll try it out at the computer center at my college :-)

Quick question....does changing the graphics settings for the flash drive effect the graphics settings on my home computer (i.e. would I have to fix it everytime I logged back on the seperate system), or would it be saved to the device itself?

I'm pretty sure the actual settings are local to the machine (registry entries most likely), as I've played on one of my older low-end machines where graphics have to be set to minimums and then went back to my high-end machine with full ultra-mode and didn't need to reset anything between them.

However, I do know that the position of all of your toolbars and windows are stored server side. The low-end machine is on a much smaller monitor than the high-end machine and I have to move all the toolbars/windows around each time I swap between machines.

That's what I remember moving around on me, the windows! Thanks much!

Does anyone know how to do this from a Window 7 computer? I'm guessing that the search at the bottom of the start menu is the same thing as run, but I'm having difficulty getting the game to actually run from my computer with that file. (I'm using a USB flash drive).

Well, it looks like all I managed to do was screw up my CoH files.
