Catalyst 11.2: regressions remain on older hardware

I'm still running through benchmarks and tests right now, but on DX10 class hardware (RadeonHD 2x00 - 4x00) series AMD graphics cards, the recently released 11.2 drivers still seem to have the major regressions introduced in the 11.1 alpha series of drivers.

Specifically I am encountering crashes to desktop and termination of the graphics driver on NT6 systems (that's Windows Vista and Windows 7, they are the exact same operating system) against RadeonHD 2600 Mobile and RadeonHD 4850 Desktop.

Do you know of any OpenGL issues with these drivers on the Radeon 5770? I randomly have texture issues with the card in COH, and only in COH. By 'texture issues' I mean the game will start displaying random textures in places where they don't belong, such as displaying the Vanguard logo in trees, for example. NT6 x64.

Thanks to @EnsonsDeath for the GVE code that made me VIP again!

I was getting such things too my my 5850 mobile. I thought it was because my GPU was reaching 120C....

Edit: Damn my dorm forcing super hot heat into every room even if you shut it off for your room.

The system I have with the 5770's are not hooked up yet. However the AMD Game forums are rife with players reporting issues.

As to your specific problem... I was going to say "heat issue" expecting something like a discolored texture (say a bright pink or missing floor). However, if you are seeing textures that aren't discolored, but misplaced, that sounds more like .pigg file corruption. You might want to take that up with NCSoft's support staff directly.

I see some random graphic glitches with my 6870 under 11.2

On some maps like the Rikti ones I see invisible walls and flicker on some objects. On Arachnos maps I see flicker in those liquid filled tubes for the Spiders.

Hey Guys, using the ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series [DELL SE198WFP] video card, and starting up COH I get that message at bottom right that says my drivers are old. Last time I saw this, I went the ATI's site, downloaded and installed (what I believed) the latest and best drivers for my specs...and it caused Havoc with my system. Desktop Icons moved all over the place and COH wouldn't even run, and it wasn't fun restoring the old drivers either...

I have no desire to repeat this. Can anyone tell me exactly which new driver download I should be using. Also, once I download, can I just run it then, or do I need to uninstall current drivers or any other pre-setup? Thanks a bunch...seriously

Here's my basic system specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 635 Processor 2.90 GHz
RAM: 4:00 GB
System: 64-bit OS

With the 11.2 drivers, I have been able to max my reflections slider again (not doable since the i19 drop). I get no crashes and no video driver crashes.

Also, while Vista and 7 are the same operating system, Windows 7 uses several visual effects changes on the desktop that can influence your game experience in different ways (not necessarily better or worse) than Vista, especially in windowed mode. In the need for precise information, calling them just "NT6" can and will cause confusion and may prevent proper troubleshooting of video issues. While je_saist is correct that they are the same under the hood, please be sure to specify which OS you have of the two for better troubleshooting precision.

edit: Radeon 6970

Desktop icons will move on occasion when installing new video drivers - depending on how the driver installer swaps settings. At some points, the new driver needs to revert to the original Windows default resolution for a few seconds. Since the desktop has substantially less room, the icons get bunched tighter. This doesn't always happen, but it happens more often than not.

While it is always best to uninstall your old driver and sweep your system with something like DriverSweeper... I can guarantee that even those of us that do this stuff for a living have been lazy at times and not had issues. For safety, you should go through the full process, but its your machine and you'll probably be fine. Both video card companies have done an excellent drop fixing issues that would cause problems with a driver update. I can't stress enough that your best plan is to fully sweep the drivers off, first, tho.

With your system, you would need this package: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/11-2_vis...dd_ccc_ocl.exe

That weird flicker in the arachnos tubes has been around since ultra mode was released. Wish they'd fix that. Which Rikti rooms? There's a known issue with the large portal room in which walls and floors flicker in and out of existence, this is actually not video card dependent and is noticeable on both ATi and nVidia products - that bug is several issues old... wish they would fix that one too .

Let me tell you this: One of my bugs had the cement in Sharkhead replaced by Protest signs....

Thanks, Mephisto, I'll give this a whirl when I get back home. Never used this 'DriverSweeper' - hopefully it's user-friendly

Mephisto, your link took me to an 'Unauthorized Download' site. From there, there was link to ATI's main site. Anyhow, using your advice on disabling and removing Drivers before Installs, I was able to install the latest and greatest without too many Issues. COH runs fine, no update message at bottom right (and the Flickering Water surfaces in the game that started recently are gone as well).

So...thanks a bunch

Excellent, glad I could help.
The link issue is because I forgot that AMD had switched to a session based download - it would only work for me, and only for a little while :/ haha sorry about that.
