Any tips for running a Master of 5th Column strike force?

Hi everyone,

I browsed the player guides forum but didn't see any entries for this.

So, I'd like to ask you whether those of you who already did this have any suggestions or tips for an attempt on a "Master of" run of the Barracuda (Reichsman) strike force.

Thanks for any advice,

I ran with a random PuG last night, and the only deaths we had were scrappers and blasters who wanted to run off and solo big armies of people on their own.

Set the conditions, stick together, and play it smart.

Immob Reichsman and taunt from a ways away so he never craps out his megathunder superstun squishykiller. Other than that, don't die! The ones I have been on that failed, it was either a scrapper forgetting that dying does matter for this particular TF or a terrible fire/kin (redundant?) that thought because he could farm AE he could handle anything.

If your squishies are dying, bring only characters with high defense, or have a good bubbler or two. Multiple tanks are a good idea, too. One can block the cave and slow or stop a lot of the ambushes. If you have one for each ambush group, you won't need to worry about high defenses on every character.

As far as the ambushes go, my teams usually back up to the tunnel once they start and forget about Reichsman entirely. Once the ambushes are fully cleared, we go back in after Reichsman by himself. Some people don't have good luck with the tunnels because of the AoE damage, but the right team buffs go a long way. Support each other and be smart, and it should be a breeze.

We would Oro out once Reichsy called for the ambushes then slowly clear a path back to him and clear his room before finishing him off. Just make sure no one reenters the mish till all are back together and ready to go cause the ambushes will come to the door once you reenter.

in Khan and BSF, Reish cannot follow you in the tunnel.

For BSF, after you killed GW... get temp power, then run back to the tunnel, have ppl play smart, and grouped, make sure All and i mean all ambush are gone... 20-30min of wondering if that was the last wave....
Then when all is clam and quiet, you can focus on Reishman.

Have a MM or a Defender in the team, for the temp power...that prevent Reishman from phasing, will help you kill him faster...

Also, have a good team setup, will make a good difference... did i ever mentionned Corruptor AT' rock?

For Khan, DPS on Reish, til one AV unlock, run to corridor, pull the one AV, rince repeat... also have the taunter have an emergency large breakfree, adn cast CM/ID/clarity, etc, on him.

Assuming people are playing smart for a Master run (standard Master run rules applying - no stupid "I forgot to turn my toggles on lol" stuff and the team is staying together, people aren't going afk in-mission for extended periods so they get ganked, etc), the above really is the key.

The Reichsmann fight itself is not difficult. He's a big bag of HP and any competent Tanker can deal with him. So long as you have at least one Defender or Mastermind on the team to prevent him from phasing, you probably aren't going to have a problem killing Reichsmann. You debuff him, you tank him, you kill him.

What makes this Master run difficult is the very large volume of ambushes he spawns when his health reaches certain levels. The key in my experience to a successful Master run is NOT trying to fight all of these waves of ambushes and Reichsmann at the same time. Now in the era of level-shift Alphas it might be doable with a team of all very sturdy characters, but the safe bet is to separate your threats.

If it's well-coordinated, falling back into the tunnels can work well to draw the ambushes back (Reichsmann will not leave the large final room). The downside of this, of course, is that the team needs to fall back as a unit and often especially on PUGs you get a straggler who ends up dying and costing the team the badge.

The alternative is to use the Ouroboros tactic described above, which works well. You beat down Reichs until he triggers his first wave of ambushes (he'll announce this with a scripted line he says) and then everyone warps out. This is effective even with Vigilantes on the team. They will NOT be dropped if they use Ouroboros, they'll just have to make their way back to Grandville from the hero side zones (Founders Falls to RWZ to Grandville being the fastest path). Once everyone is formed up back in Grandville at the mission door you re-enter (tanks first, naturally) and just pick off the ambush mobs until Reichsmann stands alone. At that point the encounter is much more straightforward.

Have you seen Mr. E-man's notes on MoBSF? If not, here's the link.
As you can see in the thread, his outline works pretty well.

Thanks for your answers.

We got through every mission with no problems at all, and also had no real problems defeating Reichsman.

Unfortunately, one of our teammates (a Crab Spider) got killed by Reichsman (his Fist of Tyranny seems to be a one-two punch, so it can kind of one-hit players). But we will try again! (-:

Thanks again!

If the tank taunts him from range (keep him immobilised or slowed) then you will find he doesn't use his big pbaoe attacks including the mega-stun one.

Some additional info on the ambushes, there are four distinct phases. The first spawns in the AV room, the second down the eastern corridor, the third in the AV room and the fourth down the eastern corridor. There are multiple waves to each part and the third phase has some quite long gaps between each wave (or waves spawn when you attack the AV, we never figured it out for sure).

Heroside just get 2 bubblers then just lol at anything that does damage, that what we did. Villainside, all the prayer in the world is not enough for that. The villain version of that tf is the very definition of devs hate villains. Most teams barely scrape thru it due to all the insane amount of ambushes.

For Reichsman in the final mission the easiest way is to have a durable, competent tanker and 7 teammates who know what they're doing. The tanker's job is to hold all the aggro while the team kills Reichsman. If your team's good the easiest is to kill Reichs while the tank holds the aggro of all 5 AV's, then kill the AV's one at a time. This isn't a real problem for a good tanker; but if your tank isn't confident then use a variant where you pound on Reichs until an AV releases, the tanker taunts the AV and the team switches to that AV until it dies while the tank holds the aggro of Reichs and the AV. Rinse/repeat until everything's dead.

I generally use the first method when I'm tanking; I taunt and attack Reichs until the first AV releases... then taunt the AV over to join the party while the team continues working Reichs. As the AV's release I add them to the party... you get the benefit of all the AOE splash damage directed at Reichsman softening up the AV's. Frankly none of the AV's, including Reichsman, are all that dangerous to a well built tanker... sometimes I need Dull Pain on CMA but I'm never in any real danger. Yes, that stun from Reichsman will very occasionally hit me but it's very short duration albeit high MAG (High enough to penetrate even a stone tank's Granite+Rooted protection, possibly up with Ghost Widow's MAG 100). If I get stunned it's about a 5 second time out and if I've been doing my job I won't loose aggro.

I've qualified for MoKahn probably 20 times; I generally don't bother setting for it anymore but if the team's good it's not unusual to get it by accident. A couple of nights ago we got it on a 24 minute speed run. It's by far the easiest Mo to get... certainly MUCH easier than MoSTF, MoITF or MoLGTF.
