Trying to finish up my Elec/Elec "team" tank

Oops, just realized I can't edit the title. I've thrown the gauntlet down between my elec/elec tank and my Shield/SS tank. I'm trying to convince myself to keep going with the Shield tank! Any comments welcome. +++/EDIT++

So you might remember me from such stellar posts as "If you wanted a team tanker...?" in which most of you said everything, and anything works.

I -really- wanted the shield tank to work, and I know I will hear about this, but my feeling is it is a lower quality set for tankers. My shield scrapper feels just as survivable and my other tanks seem more durable.

This is unfortunate, because I really like the concept. So anyhow, I decided now that I have alpha'd my Scrapper/blaster, I really wanted to turn my attention to my tank.

Unfortunately I probably won't get my tank to STF in time for Alpha goodies, which really stinks because I would love to have him run that test during this week, but he's only about 32.

This brings up a question, does anyone know if you do the weekly strike force task force, do you still get Favour of the Well even if you are not 'incarnate'?

Anyway, the reason I bring this up is I am _trying_ to make a fairly 'budgeted' build for my tank. My scrapper/blaster have completely broken my bank.

This is the build I'm looking at. Most obvious things to note are: I don't know what the heck to do with Jacob's ladder still. I know a lot of you love it, I kind of think it's a 'meh' power.

I also have some empty slots in it because I'm not sure what to do. Keep in mind that as expensive as Kinetic Combat sets are right now, I'm pretty sure I'll be doing the ghetto version with Smashing Haymaker or something.

I spent 5 mins on it, the second slot in energize was changed to a rechg, I went for S/L as most attacks come with one or the other and just made it more damaging. I prefer to kill or be killed and end sap as much as poss.

The only time a Shield Tanker can be more durable than a resistance-based set is under heavy defense debuffing scenarios. A well-built Shield Tanker can have 95% DDR, and rarely drop below 90% mitigation. A capped S/L resistance tanker could drop below 90% mitigation when defense drops below 0%. That said, I think you will get more mileage out of the Electric Tanker than a Shield Tanker.

I would suggest covering your defenses better. Try to get 32.5% S/L and E/N, or melee+ranged+AoE. With a balanced defense scheme, you could potentially tank anything in the game. A small purple gets you to the soft cap if you don't have a teammate who can buff your defenses.

I made this build with that idea in mind. It uses Dark Melee because that is the only primary set I could figure that offers any power that would have any real impact on an AV fight. I am referring to the heal, Siphon Life. I made a Stone Tanker instead, so this build has not seen a character to put it on.

In all honesty I wish someone could convince me to finish up the Shield/SS tank I made, but it's just... really hard to convince myself of that.

I have decided to post my Shield/SS build.

The idea with this is to get HP up over 2600, while going over soft cap, and having modest resists, again without blowing the bank (no Glads, no Shield Wall)

Is this just a poor build?

Thanks guys.

With some of the minor tweaks suggested, it is near the Smashing/Lethal def softcap. I could get it to cap, but my secondary goal was adding some Hit points.

I did entertain my shield tank last night but it didn't go well... he simply seems to pale in comparison to my elec/elec. That's fine....

I don't know about the extra slots used on 'knockback' protection but.... I suppose it's ok. I also dumped lightning clap because of the knockback in it.

Didn't your initial build do that? That build won't cut everything but it won't be down to the resistances. Mostly it'll be entirely on you or the team, can be any team make up, how the whole of the team performs is the key.

Yea, I think it will be fine.

I have played around with the incarnate cardio alpha and it works really well with this build.

Again though I'm still wondering if anyone knows if you do a strike task force, and you are not incarnate yet, do you get Essence of the Well? Or do you have to be incarnate?

I would personally suggest going for spiritual instead of cardiac. Cardiac by itself won't get you to 90% S/L resistance. One orange insp will get you to the hardcap without cardiac, assuming heavy resistance slotting on Charged Armor and Tough.

Spiritual gives you a faster recharging Energize, Power Sink, and Lightning Rod. You also get more healing and regen out of Energize.

Not only do you not get the Notice of the Well but you are flagged as getting the one time reward of it for that stirke target. So if you do a strike target non-alpha and then unlock the Alpha slot you won't be able to get it that Strike target week.

Hmm... alright that's a valid point. The problem I'm seeing with the Alpha system is Spiritual is by far the most popular alpha. Each of my 50's started with something else in mind, now they are all Spiritual.

It looks like this guy might be as well... But I agree it is a big help to get more recharge going....

For situations like the ITF where defense debuffs and lethal damage is rampant, It's still a good idea to grab the tier 3 cardiac, as that gets you to about 85% S/L resistance. You can then grab a 5% Lethal Resistance base empowerment buff(grab the +20% recharge one while you're it) which should last you the entire ITF.

I do appreciate your build.

Here is the problem I have with Shield tanks....

I just compared your tank to my DM/Shield Scrapper who is 50. Without considering Incarnate stuff, I have nearly perma hasten on my character which means he has a heal up about every 3-5 seconds.

I also have higher positional defense than you. For shield Defense is really the meat of it, right? So if a scrapper has higher defense than you, what are we looking at?

About 1000+ hitpoints. That's it. But my scrapper is an absolute damage machine. My Shield Charge hits VERY hard, and I can fire off my alpha chain fast, and again it hits HARD.

Just this is what my consideration is... and ultimately why I left my Shield/SS tank at 25.

I just went up a couple more levels last night, though I do admit finding a team can be a bit of a task, but anytime I do things typically go really well.

So far I'm really enjoying this tank. It's kind of 'different' from other tanks I've played in where he's got a bit of everything going on, end drain, heal, aoe, single target, etc.

I've been growing to love power sink. That's a really fun power, especially if you have another 'lightning' powered character in the group.

So far he's leveling pretty slow, and solo missions are a little painful (slow-wise) but if I stick this guy out to 45, I think he'll really shine. (so far just 36).

I seem to be ok with the build I listed, but I am still really head scratching over the Incarnate ability to go with.... I still am leaning to Cardiac for near capped restists, but Spiritual is very much a consideration.
