Regen Effectiveness?
This question was asked and answered a while back in the Archetypes and Powers section. Long story short, damage resistance (and defense) scales with the damage you're taking--if you have 10% damage resistance and 10 damage per second comes at you, you prevent 1 damage per second. If you have 10% damage resistance and 1000 damage per second comes at you, you prevent 100 damage per second. Regen, on the other hand, is a flat rate no matter how much damage is thrown at you: You'll always regenerate the same amount per second, no matter if you have 10 or 1000 damage incoming. So it's hard to draw an equivalency between them except in really controlled circumstances where you know exactly how much damage will be incoming.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
At what point does +Regen start being as effective as Damage Resistance?
Is there a way to math their comparable equivalency? (ie. X Regen is approx = to Y Damage Resistance)? |
Attempts to compare them is apparently like comparing iPods to oranges, but certainly results in a ton of math and a lot of arguing.

30 level 50's: 12 scrappers, 7 other random melee types, 11 blaster/blapper/support squishies, two accounts, and a TON of altitis since 4/28/04
I'm reading through those now and I'm liking the 'immortality line/point' info, thanks for the links.
Any similar info on -Recharge effects?
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars
-Recharge is more comparable to Damage Resistance. Basically 50% -Rech works roughly like 33% Damage Resistance. [Powers recharge in 150% the time, or powers do 2/3 the damage: in both cases you live 50% longer.]
However, there are SOME differences. I can think of three offhand. First, -Recharge scales down with the purple patch, and with AV multipliers. So that 50% -Rech would scale down to 40% against a typical +2 and much less against a +2 Archvillain. Second, -Rech will not do anything against an alpha strike- "Regen Death Syndrome" is still going to be vivid and real. [scream, leap, vaporize in midair.] Third, -Recharge is limited to something like 75%, which would quadruple your lifespan. [Resistance is limited to 75% for most people as well, but not all.] I suppose "Four" is that -Rech and Resistance multiply: if you have enough -Rech to live twice as long, and enough Resistance to live five times as long, you live ten times as long.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
cool; I'm asking because of 2 toons:
My SS/WP Brute has some Def, some Res and a lot of Regen/Max HP and I was dancing around which way to go on Epics to best increase his survivability... Energy Mastery gave me more Regen; Artic has a solid -Rech power (Shiver); otherwise, it would be Soul Mastery for Darkest Night
My Plant/Storm Troller was looking at dropping Maneuvers for Snow Storm (while her regen and DR are in comparable range to my Brute, the Def isn't as strong)
I'm also looking at Incarnate ability choices.
Thanks for the links and the direct info. I think I'm more prepared to mess up a few builds now.
