customizing henchmen
It was apparently 'in the works'. It was more a case of making things look good, rather than ending up with what happened in reality, which was blue 'smurf' zombies. Which looke daft, apparently.
So, yes, hopefully it's somewhere in the pipe. But I wouldn't bet on it being soon yet.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

As I understand it, not wanting "pimp" characters is nothing more than a rumor, and the real reason is purely technical.
There's a bunch of topics about it, but I think this one explains it the best: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=236651 (start with the 10th post, past all the "no pimps!" rumor-mongering)

Pimp theming does not seem to be the limitation; all of the devs' answers have come down to this: The engine finds NPC customization to be problematic.
Why? It seems pets, along with granite stone armor and the forms for kheldians are very simplistic. They just use an NPC model in a library, and the system doesn't seem to be set up now to handle customization of the NPC library. The thugs for masterminds, for instance, use differing models. Yet there's no way to make sure your arsonist always looks the same. It just doesn't specify. |
Well, they should at least allow us to specify whether we want male or female!
But before that fix the Pet AI's, for godsake.

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...

In other words: The two have nothing to do with each other. They can be worked on in any order, concurrently, or one completely independently of the other with the other ignored. Demanding that one be fixed before the other is like going to Walmart store and demanding that the person in the garden department fix your car's engine before selling a rake to the guy that was there before you.
@Roderick
Ppl have suggested that maybe they might be concerned that it might look like someone's a "pimp", or something sexual. That is RIDICULOUS! If that is the case, then why don't they censor how the female characters dress? I really would be interested in female henchman for the mm's.

The time between allowing pet customization and someone breaking the Teen rating of the game would be extremely short.
The real problem is that it does indeed involve specific character models that the game looks up when you summon them, very similar to how Granite and Kheldian shapeshifting works (you can't customize them either)
So, the second part is the problem they have, and the first part is why they aren't looking into solving that problem.

This concern stems more from the fact that there are a number of emotes that can appear sexual, and that you can make them say anything you want. You can also, through costume color/skin color choices, make a character appear to be naked.

I know I have brought this up before, but I really think the devs should consider a customizing option to decide how their summoned henchmen look & dress. For example, why can't a mastermind summon female mercs, soldiers, or thugs? Ppl have suggested that maybe they might be concerned that it might look like someone's a "pimp", or something sexual. That is RIDICULOUS! If that is the case, then why don't they censor how the female characters dress? I really would be interested in female henchman for the mm's.
