Quick question! Most damaging primary for /Stone armor NON SS
Fire followed ST by Stone and AoE by Mace I believe.
Mace recharge is incredibly long though isn't it?

Whirling Mace is 14s, Shatter and Crowd Control 12s, all less than Footstomp or Fire Sword Circle's 20s.
Ah really? OK well thank you very much then! I will try mace!

Here's why:
Provides both excellent ST and good AoE damage.
Requires much less endurance and much less rehcarge to to run a decent ST chain than any of the others you mentioned.
WM on low recharge is also...really slow.
I can't speak for/against fire, but the above is definitely true on WM. Endurance is tough in the early game, but becomes inconsequential later. Since you'll have Consume you can probably forgo the energy mastery pool if you wanted.
That said, when recharge starts getting high it's a blast. Clobber is your friend, CC has an amazing arc and 10 target cap, and even Shatter is starting to win me over. Shatter + mobs stuck in a doorway with fury/AAO (or in your case FE)/BU going is just downright nasty.
I'm pretty sure he's going stone armor, not fire, so fire melee would probably be a better fit/
Another vote for Fire Melee

Can't imagine wm/stone being that much fun, no offense to anyone out there who loves one. Wasn't trying to disparage fire, just my obtuse way of saying I've never played it.
I actually went Fire Melee/Super Reflexes and I am now 38 and have 45% exactly in all position. I still feel very weak a lot of the time. Then other times I am like wow the entire team is dead and I am holding off 20 guys. I can jump in an alpha and never get hit or jump in the alpha and be dead in seconds. When I do get hit though(which is more than I would like) it HURTS really bad. I also hate not being able to heal myself and I despise the idea of taking aid self with the horrible pre's I would have to take to get it.
I think I am going to make a stone armor now like I planned and pair it with fire melee. I do really like FM. It is very hard hitting and the extra dmg and dots will help a lot with stone.

Sounds like a Def set to me. I thought, but could be wrong, that /SR had decent DDR. Are you running Tough for some S/L resistance?

I have tough atm, but I only have it slotted with the +3def proc. Fire/SR has been extremely tight with powers and slotting. Yes it has excellent DDR, but that is not the problem. I just can't heal myself. It also seems every group I get in has no healers lol. I think it IS overall a good set, I believe I just prefer resist with a self heal.

I know folks can do crazy things with /SR, although maybe not with fire in front of it?
@signpost, I like to have a purple around even with softcapped def and good DDR - there are some mobs that at big spawn sizes that can still take me into negative def pretty quickly, particularly PPD pb/battle armor mobs in villain tips. Although maybe /SR's ddr is that much better than shield's.
For the record, I've stubbornly never taken the medicine pool as well. Of course I've not reconsidered that position now that the fitness pool has gone inherent, so that might change.

SR's DDR is a LOT better. In general with average slotting, SR should have 95% (capped) DDR; All debuffs should be at 1/20 effect. Given that the debuffs should usually be hitting you about 1/10-1/20 of the time as well, just having a little more than 45% defense should serve as sufficient buffer. The real killer is to-hit buffs which DDR doesn't help with.

To-hit buffs though, yeah. Not much to do about that outside of a team with someone that can counteract the buff.
OK well, after thinking about it most of the day and deciding it would be such a waste to just throw away my FM/SR. I went ahead and did a re-spec and I dropped fire breath and Build up for now and I picked up stimulant and aid self. It annoys me greatly to say this, but I am nearly immortal now. I placed a set of 5 doctored wounds in aid self and I just leveled and I added 1 Interrupt IO to it. I think that will help since I did get interrupted when I was surrounded by 10ish foes. So sadly ... I would have to suggest Aid Self to most SR Brutes.

Maybe it's your expectations on /SR? I have a number of /SR brutes (one is FM in fact), but even with capped defense I still get tapped. The random number generator hates defense based toons. While you don't get hit often, when you do..yes it will hurt. Remember that /SR has scaling resists so as you take more damage your resistance goes up too, but before that kicks in when you do get it, yes, it will hurt.
There is no shame in taking aid self and many brutes do it to add to their survival (especially now with inherit fitness as you really don't need to invest a lot to make aid self worthwhile).

I am going to make a /stone armor brute and I am looking for the most damaging primary NON SS. I am sick of SS. I think it is Fire correct? Since the dot increases with fury? Let me know your thoughts plz and thank you!
