To any techies out there, I am in need of help in trying to figure out why the desktop in which I play CoH on is unable to bring up the City of Heroes website. I have scanned for viruses, malware and spyware, to no avail. I have modified the HOSTS file to block ads, reverted back to original but still unable to access website. I will post the contents of a hijackthis scan in a separate post. Please help, I'm unable to figure this out.

See if that fixed it.
I have used /flushdns, but it still has not resolved issue. I have been able to /ping cityofheroes.com and do get results of activity, but the browsers installed(Firefox, IE) show unable to connect to website.

In fact, try booting into Safe Mode and see if you can connect.

Are you having problems with any other websites or just cityofheroes.com?

Have you tried deleting your temporary internet files? Maybe it's trying to pull a corrupted copy of the site from your cache.

Data data data, we cannot make bricks without clay. Try a free proxy service. Also, try a direct IP: http://64.25.35.107

(This really is the cityofheroes.com IP, as found here.)

Yes I have several times, and there is no problem accessing other websites.

Using that as of right now, on the desktop that is unable to bring up the websites and I have tried the direct IP approach but still doesn't show up. Well we can't get clay without a little digging. Did a recent reinstall of operating system, but afterwards I was able to access website. That's about all I've done.

What error message are you getting on your browser?

Posted

I've been having the exact same problem as the OP on my desktop, to every detail he's mentioned. It has all the symptoms of a DNS issue, except that my laptop, connecting through the same router, and with the exact same DNS settings in Windows, can get to the site just fine. Frustrating as all hell.

With Firefox: Server not Found, With IE: Internet Explorer cannot display the web page. Do not have any other browsers installed, but I fear that the end result would the same with another browser.

It would appear that I am not the only one experiencing the same issue.

And also another issue has cropped up in the form of being unable to update the graphics driver, went to uninstall previous driver, went through uninstall process normally then rebooted to install updated driver. Before going through process to install updated driver system stated that I would have to restart to finish install process, where as I have not started the executable for the new driver. So I let the system reboot another time to complete process, after letting computer sit and load I check system properties, lo and behold the older driver is still installed. So I have not begun the process to figure out why I have been able to get rid of the old driver. :frustrated grunt:

I'm on IM with a friend of mine who's having the same issue. Four machines in the house all on the same router. One of them can't connect to cityofheroes.com. Game runs. Just can't get to the Domain.

Yep, that would be me. Same symptoms you are all having.

I can ping the website in cmd, but not nslookup. It started after I moved to my new home, so sometime after January 3rd.

Quick update. He can get to http://eu.cityofheroes.com Just not anything else that's attached to the domain. Try to get to the forums through the EU site... no good.

I continue to have the same problem, have a separate thread on this same forum (see 1st page, it has many more details)

Nothing that has been suggested, searched, etc... is working.

I\'m beginning to suspect un-healable Winsock corruption

Can you run a traceroute, and paste the results?

Even better, i got NSlookup to work out for me, using a google public DNS. I still can't load the main site, and I can't log into the forum but I can read the forum without using a proxy/2nd computer.

Apparently, from what I can discern (I'm no expert), there's a Comcast DNS problem. I'm using a Google Open DNS server on my router and computer settings but it's no help (yes I flushed my DNS cache and my browser cache). I would be able to log into the forum via 64.25.35.108 (in place of "boards.cityofheroes.com") but it auto-resolves to cityofheroes.com every time. I believe because the site (cityofheroes.com) is being used as a forwarder for "coh103.gtm.cityofheroes.com", but this canonical URL will also not connect properly.

All my NSlookup attempts to www.cityofheroes.com end up with similar results. The final answer is the same we all know, but it doesn't work.. and under the comcast portion of the query it doesn't resolve correctly still.

I'm ready to blame Comcast. Again.
