FM/SR Scrapper or Brute?

Are there any particular advantages/disadvantages to making a FM/SR Scrapper vs. a FM/SR Brute?

...just thought I'd get some opinions before I make one.

Brutes actually get a taunt aura with /sr, and they benefit more from fire melee's DoT with fury.

Also Brutes have more health so get both more of a benefit from the scaling resists and can take a little more punishment when you do get hit.

Brute Pros:
Higher Base HP
Better arrangement of SR powers
Taunt Aura

Scrapper Pros:
Higher Damage

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

I'll just add that while a Taunt aura is nice, as things won't run from you when soloing, but if you plan to play mostly on teams a taunt aura can often be a liability.

My Brutes easily take more incoming damage than any of my Scrappers due to the amount of threat they generate.

There is a reason Tankers do not have SR as an option, being a purely defense based Brute with a taunt aura is not always an advantage.

Brute or scrapper, I'd rather have the attention of everything focused on me than on the squishies.

I decided to make both and see which one I like better...and I can't make up my mind. I've only played them both to lvl 6 so far and that's not much to go on.

It does feel like the Brute is doing more damage but from what I've read about Brutes, the fury bar feels stronger in the lower levels than in the higher ones.

If I do go Brute, I'll be bringing him hero-side ASAP for Pyre Mastery.

I wanted to try and make a toon that wasn't a Scrapper for once but...it's...difficult. heh

Gah! More and more I keep leaning back towards making him a Scrapper...here's the build.

Redside characters don't have to go blueside to access those APPs. only blues have to switch to get the badge that unlocks Patron Pools.

While I agree with you, as that's how I play, I think there is quite a large chunk of the player base that enjoys the relatively unfettered playstyle of life without a taunt aura.

That same player base that wouldn't want a taunt aura is also the same ones that usually run around with fly thinking its awesomesauce and are constantly dieing trying to get past enemies because they don't understand how valuable the -threat and stealth is in super speed. =/

Super Speed is only used to get to the next mob faster than that other scrapper who's only using CJ-hurdle

Off topic, but both Scrappers I'm actively playing now are fliers. One is a concept character, and the other is using Hover plus Combat Jumping to help soft cap. I'm actually even ENJOYING the Shadow Shard. It's amusing being the only person in an entire zone. Not everyone with flight is dazed and confused.
