Bots/Traps without Battle Drones

Anyone playing Bots without Battle Drones but instead Pulse Rifle/etc? Is any spec playing without your lower henchmen and instead with your own attack? Is it fun/worth it? I'm contemplating trying it out. Is there any reason not too? Are the BD's stronger than your own attacks? Thanks!

Not me, Petless MMs exist, Not in my mind, Battle Drones are 3 more bodies for Bodyguard mode to share damage to, Yes.

You can out damage a single bot with your attacks, you cannot however outdamage 3 bots firing at the same time. Do not go down the dark and lonely road of pet skipping. You're just going to gimp yourself.

If you are going to go for a petless mm then go for a set not otherwise accessable, like poison... If you want no pets and /traps make a defender or a corruptor.

Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.

I will occasionally unsummon my Drones in tight maps to get room to maneuver but for the most part I keep them out. While the damage is useful, the main reason I keep them is for BG mode. Having them in BG mode spreads any damage I take across more bots which decreases the chance of actually losing a bot.

3 more bots is nice for BG mode as others have said. They also draw aggo, so in a big fight fewer attacks are aimed at you and the decent pets.

I like having a big crowd of pets, so maybe I'm biased. Those little guys mean I don't have to worry about stragglers or that 1 guy who got KB'd away, 1 of my 6 pets will eventually notice the problem and clean it up.

This.

Never skip your pets. That's like making a blaster and skipping all those annoying "attack" powers. If you don't need a pet, don't use it or unsummon it. But you always want to have the power and the option to summon it.

And protector bots would be the last pet I'd skip. Heals and bubbles are very useful things.

Coincidentally, most Masterminds have three attacks and the devs just gave us three "free" powers when they made the Fitness pool inherent. Why not take your pets AND your attacks?

They didn't give us six free slots at the same time, and without decent slotting, the attacks aren't worth using.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'll be keeping my Drones. More questions to come.

Some damage is better than none. Unless you're secondary keeps you constantly busy or you lack the recovery to handle it an attack slotted with an accuracy enhancement (or an Acc/Dam HO) is better than standing there whistling. Even with 1 or 2 slots an attack can be useful as a "filler" in your action chain.
