Planning on beating up some AV's came up with this, was going to have an earth / rad but storm seems a little bit better on paper. Anyways came up with this, seems to be ok, i havn't focused on the defense soft cap hoping that with the -to hit and rocky out plus all my damage mitigation then hibernate hoping that it wont be too much of a problem.

I'm having a hard time understanding how this build is 1. an AV killer build and how 2. its better on paper than earth/rad at the task, given that it doesn't have any -regen and is weak on single target damage. Just throwing the most expensive IOs and sets at a build does not make an AV killer. Maximizing single target damage and good endurance usage and recovery as well as appropriate debuffs (specifically -regen and -resist) helps with tough single targets like AVs. I'm not saying it won't kill AVs but built as is I'd think a similarly build /rad could handle the task as well if not better. (It has +Recovery +Recharge +Damage power (AM), -to hit -def -resist and -regen debuffs (RI,LR and EF) as well as a self heal (RA) ) all of which make AV killing easier.

Also, if you aren't going for specific set bonuses, why slot fossilize with an Acc/Hold Glad Net IO? Just because it's expensive doesn't make it better than any other Acc/Hold IO of similar level. Also if you are going for AV killing you need to completely reprioritize your slotting. You need single target damage. I'd assume that you are slotting ice storm with Rag. for the purple bonuses because as a power for AV fighting it's not going to be very helpful. Fossilize and ice blast need to be slotted for damage and more than just the two slots you've given to them. Slotting overall needs to be rethought, i.e. a slow set in freezing rain.

If it were me and I just wanted to make an AV killer, I'd go with a different combo: Ill or Fire/Storm or Cold or Rad. Unless you just want the challenge of earths low damage output.

This the build I'm working on putting on my Earth/storm maybe you can get some ideas from it. I think you defiantly need more slots in Fossilize. and not slotting snow storm.

This is kind of a mess. Not being smart about it, but honestly curious, have you played an earth/storm before? For *any* purpose, this slotting and power selection is just all over the place. I will have "Earth/Storm" put on my tombstone, but it is not going to be better than Rad for soloing an AV. It's a HEAVY control pair. But control alone doesn't kill an AV.

But just so I can talk about Earth/Storm, here goes.

As Mental said, you will need single target damage. This also will apply to your controls. Why take stone cages and slot it up? Take Stone Prison, and leave cages out of the build. Stone Cages is not cheap end wise, and you will be wanting to spam your immob (if they don't resist it) to keep the AV in one place and to set up containment when they otherwise can't be mezzed.

And the most curious choice to me is Salt Crystals. A PBAoE sleep. That should be nuff said. This power selection (among other things) says a lot.

And Stalagmites, an AoE disorient. It isn't going to help you much against an AV. You will be relying on Volcanic Gases and Fossilize to get the AV held when they drop.

Freezing Rain has a slow effect, but is not a slow power (especially when you have two other great slows, there is a slow cap ya know)

Damage will come from Lightning Storm, Stoney, Tornado, and whatever Pool attacks you get. But it will still be a LONG fight. Hurricane's -tohit will be the best thing you have going for you. But you will still most likely die.

Again, not trying to be snarky but it seems like you just picked random powers from both sets and put the top end IO sets in them. I suggest you roll up an Earth/Storm and actually spend some time with it, understand what the powers actually do, how well they do them etc. THEN plan out how to attempt an AV Solo with it. Besides, that way maybe you will have saved up enough influence for one of those IO sets you want!

Baby Steps!

Can any troller builds do enough damage to defeat an AV?

uh . . . Illusion/Radiation is famous for being a solo AV killer, as well as killing off GMs solo. A fully IO'ed out Illusion/Cold can do it, too. I know some Ill/Storms have been able to beat most AVs.

Other controllers can do it as well. It is just that Earth, Ice and Electric are all low damage control sets, so those sets will find it difficult or impossible.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Yes I know about ill/rad and the awesomeness they are. But that's more, let the PA soak damage.
I shoulda clarified, can any troller sets beside illusion, and specifically ill/rad, solo AV's?

Fire/Rad- I believe forum poster, Silverado has taken down every AV and GM with his. He would regularly post screenshots after he'd take a new one down. No temps and no inspirations too.

Fire/Kin- I know I'd beaten a few AVs solo with mine.

Fire/Storm and I'd guess/Cold- pretty sure they can take out av's.

Since you originally asked if controllers could beat AVs: Illusion/storm and rad and cold.

I know my Ill/Therm could stalemate giant monsters, but I never tried AVs. My guess is that wouldn't be too difficult.

And while it would be much harder from a damage standpoint, I'd venture to guess that someone out there could build even with some of the other primaries and secondaries.
