Channels

I have a problem with the channels and alternates.

if I join "RadioFreedom" with one of my characters and then log on with one of my alternates it says my alternate has already joined RadioFreedom but it hasn't.

I can select the RadioFreedom tab and send messages but I can't see anything ever said in the channel including my own chat, only the character that I joined the channel with can see the channel chat. I have to leave the channel and rejoin it each time I switch characters are it's not really there.

I seem to remember this being that way years go when I first starting playing CoH. Is there some trick to getting it to work for all of my characters no matter which one logs on?

When you join a global channel, all your characters can access that channel.

The problem is that you still need to add that channel to one of your tabs on all those other characters. Right click a tab, select Edit Tab, and you'll find the channel you're looking for on the right side. Select it and Add it and you'll be able to see the chat now.

What you can do is get one character with all the tabs and channels set up properly, then type /ChatSave. Then, when you switch characters, all you have to do is type /ChatLoad.

Been having problems lately with red side channels vs. blue side channels. I have one of each. Is there any prohibition to having channels that are for blue side and red side simultaniously?. Also is there a max number of channels you can have? ie. can you only be party to 2 different chat channels at one time?

No. There's no specific association between global channel and alignment, and nothing prevents you from adding non-global channels to your tabs, even if the channel was meant for the other side. (Specifically, the event notification channels.)

There is a maximum number of global channels you may join -- I want to say 10, but I'm not certain. But there is no limit to the number of channels you're allowed in a single tab.

It used to be 10, but I think it was recently increased to 20. I only have 11 or 12 right now, so I can only confirm that it's been increased, but not what the exact limit is now. I just did a quick browse of the patch notes and can't seem to find where it was announced.

That said, it seems the Wiki is due for an update on that number.

Do those save channel color settings as well?

Yes, but there seems to be a slight bug with the color saving that some people still complain about, and I've run into it a few times myself.

The workaround I use:
After making sure your tabs are exactly where you want them, select a tab that has no global channels in it. Edit it and remove any channel (like broadcast or system), then re-add it. Now do your /chatsave.

Apparently if a global channel was the last thing you changed, it might not save/load the colors correctly, so it's quite inconvenient (since that's what people are most likely to change). I've even had my colors change on a different toon when I relog after adding a new channel, so I always make sure to save a new copy each time I make a change.

I hope that helps.
