KM/SD Shield Charge-Can Opener or finishing move?
I use it in the middle. Mine's a Fire/Shield, though, so you might want closer to the tail end.
As I move towards the group, I find and target a boss, hitting it with a Fire Ball as I'm in mid leap, while looking for other bosses. Quickly center myself in the group and hit Fire Sword Circle. Do a few single target attacks on the boss, Build Up, Shield Charge, Fire Ball, Fire Sword Circle. Fight whatever's still standing with whatever seems appropriate. Rinse and repeat.
Real world is more case by case, of course, but that's pretty much my default way of fighting. I usually fight +2x8 with bosses, since that may be relevant.

Videos of Other Stupid Scrapper Tricks
Since the AoE in KM isn't great, I prefer to maximize SC by getting a full PS stack before using it. I'll hop into a spawn so they huddle into AAO, hit PS and start wailing on the biggest baddie there. Once I've got PS maxed I'll drop SC and Burst.
What's also a neat trick is using the teleport part of SC. If two spawns are close toyeher or there is an ambush inbound, I'll SC from the middle of the first spawn into the middle of the second. That way you still benefit from a full AAO, KD/kill a bunch in the second spawn and are in position to keep murdering things :3

I think you'd be silly not to use Shield Charge without at least AaO saturated...
I like your idea hero - but like the last poster said, make sure you're in the middle of the group so AAO is saturated, and SC them. The kd takes a big bite out of the groups alpha. Then build up your PS by wailing on a boss or lt, and burst to take out whats left. If you are on a team and wait to use SC, you're going to lose out on a lot of kills and waste a lot of mitigation, imo. That's something I didn't like about KM, while you are building up your PS, the rest of your team is killing your targets that you're just dying to unleash a built up aoe on, lol.
If you are solo, and you have your survivability built up, then I'd save SC for after you've built up your PS.
My KM/SD scrap is only 25 so I don't have shield charge yet, but as I've been playing with the rest of the abilities, I've started wondering how to incorporate it with the rest of character's abilities:
Opener-Trigger PS(just for the to hit at that moment) Shield charge to KD some foes, let AAO saturate as I single target chain to 5 PS stacks, then burst.
Finisher-Rush in triggering PS hit the 5 stacks, burst, shieldcharge, mop up whats left.
Yes I know it will probably wind up more of a case by case basis, but wondering what most SD sscraps wind up doing with shield charge
