Best for picking off single targets.
Well for anyone who cares I rolled a ninja/trap and I'm alt-attack commanding it up.
I was going to suggest Ninjas and maybe /Thermal or perhaps /Pain. /Traps will do well too.
- The laws of science were, first, God's laws. We didn't make them, we just gave them a name...likely not the name their creator gave them.
- No, no. Humans made them. The same way we made gravity, the atomic bomb, Cheetos, babies, and water.
I have discovered in teams I like to pick a target and have all my pets focus fire it and my gratification directly correlates to how quickly they can all burn down a single mob.

Your Primary should definitely be Ninjas, as it has undoubtedly the best single target DPS.
As for your secondary, I would actually avoid Traps despite it being one of the best secondaries. Traps is most effective right in the middle of a melee, dropping munitions and toe bombing. You do not want to do this if you are always out of BG mode picking off your foes.
For dropping single targets, look into Poison, which has the best single-target debuffs. FF would also be a great option, as you could bubble up your Ninjas and stay on the outskirts of combat just close enough to grant them the benefits of Dispersion Bubble. It's possible to have all of your pets well over the soft cap with a combination of Dispersion/Deflection/Insulation/Grant Invisibility/Edict of the Master. By taking advantage of IO set bonuses and a patron, you can also become quite tough without ever using BG mode.
Thermal wouldn't be a bad option either, but Ninjas are defense based (positional) and thus benefit more from defense buffs that let them hit the softacp. However, thermal does have heals, buffs, and solid debuffs as well. Forge would be great on your Jounin.
So to summarize my suggestions:
- Ninja/Poison-- High DPS, very powerful single target debuffs, and an extremely powerful AoE tier 9 debuff that unfortunately can't be made permanent. But when it is up, wow...
- Ninja/FF-- Hich DPS, grants Mez and defense to the MM, would softcap all of the Ninjas and let them weave through combat to pick of targets, dodging most incoming damage.
- Ninja/Thermal-- High DPS, best combination of buffs/heals/debuffs.
Actually for dropping single targets (AV's aside) I think buffs might be better than debuffs, so I would be looking at Thermal (Forge) or Pain (Painbringer).
Possibly thermal since it has both buffs and debuffs.
British by act of union, English by grace of God, Northern by pure good fortune!
I'd say Ninja/Poison.
Every Ninja/Poison I know keeps telling me about their AV soloing shenanigans.
Thermal could be good as it may keep the Ninja's alive long enough to recieve heals.
Forcefield allows for 100% focus on controling the Ninja's while giving decent survivability for them.
Dark/Traps probably would also be good (On their own they are awesome...) with lots of debuffs (Dark) or debuffs and buffs (Traps) probably not the best for 1v1, but will allow you to take out larger groups one by one.
Basically Ninja/Anything will do well against a single target (Perhaps not pain as they tend to die before heals can be cast)
I have been partaking in a LOT of trial and error as of late with the new... "extended septuple experience weekend" we seem to having in AE.
I have always been an altaholic, trying to figure out what exactly in this game is fun to me. I have discovered in teams I like to pick a target and have all my pets focus fire it and my gratification directly correlates to how quickly they can all burn down a single mob. I'm not sure why I guess it's kinda visceral that way. With all the AOE in the game I guess I feel a kind of disconnect when I'm just somehow suppose to be contributing to this ball of flaming aoe but I don't really see and feel the damage other than orange numbers. I like watching the healthbar shoot down. As strange as that sound, if anyone would like to contribute to my enlightenment that's about 33 months on and off in the making, I would really appreciate feedback of the possible best prim/sec for this style of play. |
If you only want Mastermind, I would actually recommend Merc (with procs) or Necro (with you blasting as well).
Ninja has good ST damage but they also die easier and it may lead to frustration.
Merc with proc damage has decent ST damage. Merc's aoe damage mainly comes from cone attacks but since you don't care about aoe, you can just simply find a target and focus fire and see tons of DoT damage and proc damage goes off.
Necro has good ST damage too if you blast with Dark Blast and Gloom. I color all my blast powers and they look so pretty when they go off. The reason you should blast yourself is that Zombies die easily too so instead of trying to babysit them, you just use them as meatshields and blast yourself for ST damage. I used to run a Necro/Storm build when recharge used to work in Pets. It was a very fun ST-damage build (using Hurrican to push everything away from me).
As for secondaries, I would suggest Storm simply because the only thing you need to do in each fight is drop Freezing Rain and that's it. You can throw out healing when you feel like it. /Poison has good ST debuffs but it lacks aoe protection for your pets. If you only solo, I may recommend /Poison but since you brought up AE, I take it that you team a lot? If you do, then /Poison is one of the worst team-secondaries IMO. Oh, you can also go with /Dark.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
Although he doesn't produce the biggest orange numbers, my ninja/posion melts just about anything I focus on. If you want something that cuts through bosses, EBs, and AVs like butter it'd be my suggestion. Although as mentioned, it does have a little trouble with large groups, and the pets can be squishy so if something has too many AEs (and lives long enough to use them) keeping pets alive can be problimatic.
That...was a Herocon 09 exclusive easter egg. The powerset will not have doves associated with it.
Namely because you guys would want to color tint the damn doves, or make them hawks/ravens/flying sharks/etc and that's just a headache I do...not...want...to deal with. |
Poison/Anything
Poison seems to melt everything.
