Fabricator Badge

This badge requires you to craft 2000 IOs, temp powers, etc. I am currently around 1300.

What strategies have you used to earn this badge? Are there quick strategies? Or is a plodding badge?

It's definitely a "plodding" badge now, especially since they got rid of base salvage. There used to be a time where you could get a bunch of base salvage to craft base components (which counted for Fabricator) then burn those components off as Empowerment Buffs (which also counted).

Of course Fabricator used to require 10,000 crafts (not just 2,000) so I guess it all makes sense somehow.

I hit 10,000 crafts making money on the CH. Sure, you'll earn it much faster, now--but you make a lot less money in doing so.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

every time before I get ready to do a SF or w/e I go to my empowerment stations and craft as many powers as I have salvage for, then I got to my storage bins and craft the recipes I keep stock on hand for. So maybe 6 to dozen or so craftings a night that only cost me salvage and help me kills tuff better

I reached my badge painlessly

Like most things it's just a matter of how quickly you want it. There's nothing wrong with getting a badge like this "painlessly" if you don't want it quickly or want to save a few million Influence.

I on the other hand spent about a week grinding through 10,000 crafts and got Fabricator on my badging character finished many years ago now. At the time it cost me something like 20 million Influence just to have it done pretty much ASAP. Since then I've made so many billions buying and selling things on the market the fact that I effectively "paid" for that badge to have it ASAP is more or less immaterial to me.

As always YMMV...

I still have about 6k "Brain Storm Ideas" from converting all my base salvage, back when that counted too. lol

On a side note, I do have 2 more badge toons that I started since then who still need this badge. I've been too lazy to work on it so I'm glad this thread is here. I'll probably make a few empowerment buffs to empty my inventory, rather than simply selling to the store or CH like I usually do. Good "painless" tip there. lol

Empowerment buffs were counting two weeks ago when I crafted them on my Corr who still hasn't Fabricator. He went from 1497 to 1503 by crafting empowerments.

Find a common IO in high demand, but for which the salvage is relatively cheap and plentiful. Buy stacks of salvage, craft from memorized, sell in batches of 10 for just over cost. Free money and crafting progress for just minutes of time investment a day.

How to find the "just over cost" price point? Pull up a calculator, (salvage cost + crafting cost)*1.1111 and round up to the nearest thousand or so. You may need to spend a few days observing the price fluctuations of common IOs and salvage, but once you've identified your target IO, it doesn't need any more thought.

Yes I know Empowerment buffs still count. I wasn't trying to imply they didn't.

The point I was making is that there was a time when you could "double-up" on crafting back when base salvage was a significant part of the game. The cool part about it was that you could carry up to 99 of each of the base salvage/component types instead of being limited to whatever amount of invention salvage you can carry.

Let's just say if nothing had changed about the way bases used to work then only having to craft 2,000 times for Fabricator would have almost been trivial.

Whenever I'm trying for the crafting badges, I have that character make all the IOs for my still-leveling characters. Fill every slot, including brawl and rest, even if you just use a level 10. Sure there are faster and simpler methods, but at least this way you're making your alts stronger too.

All the common IO's are memorized on one character so I have all the other toons send their common salvage to her for crafting into the top 8 marketable IO's. Usually, I can craft about 20-30 of those a day which I always post at the same price to sell for a small profit. Usually, I get much more Inf than I post for. For a few minutes invested at the end of each session, it is not a grind and progress towards the badge is steady and profitable.

I was AWOL from CoX when the invention system was implemented and returned only back in August of this year. Need only 65 to complete the Fabricator badge and it has been relatively painless to achieve.
