LVL 41 Powers

I was reading over some of the new builds posted and I see a lot of them have the patron powers on villan side. Are these avail to blaster only if they change to a villan or can we access them through the hero side?

You need to go full villian, then do one of the patron arcs to unlock the patron pools. Once the pool is unlocked you can revert to hero, respec, or do whatever without loosing access to the ability to use patron pools.

Namely because you guys would want to color tint the damn doves, or make them hawks/ravens/flying sharks/etc and that's just a headache I do...not...want...to deal with.

I thought if you respec hero side you can't pick them again.. Am I wrong? (I would love it if I am. )

Yes, you are wrong. So be happy.

Basically, you need to be a villain to get the badge. Once you have the badge, it stays with you even if you switch sides, and allows you to continue to respec into the powers.

I'm hoping that a new mission (and possibly some new patrons) will be added hero side so the switching will no longer be needed. The problem has nothing to do with the powers, it's that heroes can't do the mission.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a "steal Arachnos tech/magic" type of story arc that would open PPPs without needing to switch sides.

Unlikely. You're learning the powers from those who are their master. Why would they ever want to teach filthy heroes their secrets?

Who say's you need them to teach you?

Black scorpion-Mace mastery: I raided an arachnoss lab and all I got was the lousy mace.
Sirroco-Mu Mastery: It's your mystical legacy. Quest-Go find some of the ancient tablets and writings and learn from it.
Ghost Widow-darkness mastery: Quest into the Netherrealm/negative energy planes to master it.
Mako-Don't remember the name: Go find something shark related and learnfrom it by beating the daylights out of it.

See no patron's needed.

Thematic justifications can be altered almost at whim to address game-mechanical needs. Now that side switching is available, there's an obvious mechanical gap between APPs and Patron Pools.

Any hero who wants to use a Patron power and wants to remain a hero has to spend a minimum of eight days switching his alignment, running a story arc, and switching back. Any villain who wants to use APPs just has to select them upon leveling up.

If the hero happens to have a few Hero Merits banked, then he has to spend several days spending those Merits before he switches alignment, or else he'll lose them. (The A-Merit stores gate spending to once per day, so if you were saving up for something big and you're halfway there, then you could be a long time spending those merits.)

Seems like a lot of extra time and effort for something that villains get for free, no?

A red-side advocate would tell you, "Blue-side haz moar! Welcome to our world!" (I am not a red-side advocate, and obviously, I exaggerate.)

Putting aside the fact that I actually prefer the APPs to the PPPs, I do think that, now that switching sides is possible, there should be some sort of balancing aspect. I like the ideas of heroic versions of the Patron arcs. However, I think that they would have to be worded correctly. A hero wouldn't steal Black Scorpion's mace, but perhaps "confiscate" it for counter-intelligence purposes.

I would sort of liked to have had Blue-side patrons (namely, the Freedom Phalanx members), but given the wide variety of APPs available, that would have been hard to implement. (I mean, does blue-side even have a NPC Hero that would teach ice moves?)

This much I know: I can get Frozen Armor from an APP for my Ice/Ice blaster and controller. I would like to be able to get Frozen Armor on my Ice/Ice defender without having to go get the Leviathan Mastery PPP.
