Supernatural 11/05/10
I'm really digging the overall mood of season six. It may not have the cohesive, going-somewhere-huge feel of season five (although judging by this episode that's changing), but the chaotic desperation that Dean is dealing with is coming across nicely. Decent episode overall.
Interesting episode. Not sure I like the conception of purgatory they're bringing in, but it's something to think about. The alpha vampire was a decent antagonist for this episode, and I'd like to see him more. I appreciate that he's caveman old, rather than victorian england old. Vampire legends have been around long enough that he should be among our oldest fears.
When the alpha vampire commented that even things like him have a mother...was I the only one who immediately thought of Echidna? She and various other "mother of monsters" figures do exist in mythology, the show could be pooling them into a single being...it could also be a reference to Lillith, as certain traditions have her taking on the mother of monsters role, but since she's already dead, and it makes little sense for a demon to be older than the first monsters within the show's mythology, I'm going to guess against it.

Oh, who else thinks the grandfather made a deal with Crowley to bring back Sam and Dean's own mother?
I thought Echidna too as well as Grendel's mother, Angrboða, and Lillith, but I was leaning toward Echidna or Grendel's mother more, and as you said Lillith is already dead. The real question is, will Dean pull a Beowulf end up doing her?

Oh did not even think of that, but we would have seen her by now wouldn't we, in the six years of the show as soon as you make the deal whatever you made the deal for it happens right away. So if he made a deal for his daughter to come back she would have been back as soon as he made the deal. Maybe he knew that Sam had no soul and made the deal to get Sam's soul back. I don't know.

Did anyone see what Alpha Crowley asked them to bring in the next ep? I missed that.

I have a feeling that we'll eventually find out that Crowley is working with one or more angels. Crowley got Sam out of the cage and the angel(s) brought Samuel back.
"Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly, the ill deeds along with the good and let me be judged accordingly. The rest is silence." -- Dinobot
Hehe RoboSam hehe.
Crowley isn't doing it as a crossroads deal though, he's saying, you do this for me, and then I'll do this for you (presumably). Or in Sam's case, you do this for me, and I'll give you back your soul/not send you back to Hell. There doesn't seem to be any sort of agreement besides his word. I'm still kind of surprised he was capable of bringing the two back. Even as King of Hell, it seems odd he could affect things in Lucifer's cage, OR drag someone out of Heaven. Both seem not quite part of his domain...
