Lockup on exit..What am I missing?
I am still having the same issue as well. I had the game one time about two weeks ago exit normally and for the life of me I wish I knew what happened.
Just to repost, I click 'exit now', the screen freezes, I go into start task manager hitting 'ctrl, alt, and delete' and the city of heroes crash box is up along with the task manager. I then click 'exi't on the crash box to close the game.
Just as a note...nice job on getting the water working better. I am on medium quality and have no character graphic shadow around my toon in the water now. Us ATI people have been having a rough time since the release of Going Rogue and this improvement is a big plus.
My video is (2) Radeon HD 5670 GPU enabled (Ultra Settings). and I have noticed the lack of dotted lines which I am extremely happy about.
The only major video problem I still have is things popping up when moving. In other words, building changing slight shape, popping up, trees suddenly appearing. This is on 100% distance. I have played with the occlusion and the FSAA (which works good now for me, ATI) and nothing seems to fix it. I understand that Physx technology is still strongly supported by the game and I think for ATI cards the problem lies there.
The game still needs some tweaking for us ATI/AMD video card people. The building reflections are screwy
One other note, the game needs better sword play animations. Laters.
are either of you running a 'theme' or changed the default xp 'look' via window blinds/stardock/alienware-guise software?
i've recently had a very similar problem to the o.p., changing back to the default/out of stardock & co fixed this for me. strangely, this only became a problem very recently after running them both for 5 years. not so strangely, i'd completely forgotten just how much i want to puke looking at the freshly revealed happy go lucky colour scheme.

I have this same problem and I'm running Win7 so it's not limited to XP. I also lock up whenever I exit an SG base. Do you guys have this problem as well?
Nope..havent changed a thing. First happened when I updated drivers from 257 to 258 and continues even after 260 and all the updates. I thought that was the issue, but seems like 260 are working for almost everyone, so trying to see what else it could be.

What month did it start for you Cy? It's been doing the Exit Lockup for me since at least summer, every. single. time. I close the game.
I wish we could get a dev to comment on this, since it's now happening to at least a dozen board-goers, so probably 50-100 players who don't come and post about it and the forum guys are still stumped.
I'm on XP with an ATI card too btw, but the standard XP Blue theme.

I never had it happen till I updated my drivers and up untill now had only seen people with Nvidia cards. When I saw that 260 worked for most, I assumed it must be something with my system, but now seeing that it is an issue with some ATI cards, XP and Win7, I really have no idea.

Just want to report that I recently came back to CoH and have been having this issue too the whole time I've been back. I have the game running on a brand new Win7 install on a brand new SSD. This is a dual-boot system, so I only use this Win7 install for playing CoH; no other application software is installed, the latest production Nvidia drivers are installed and no anti-virus software installed yet. My video card is an EVGA 460GTX with 1GB of memory. The system has only 2GB of DDR2 memory, so at first I was thinking that maybe I was running out, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Symptoms are similar to what other people are reporting: exit mission, and every few times the game slows to a crawl for a few seconds, and then it halts. I ALT-TAB and sometimes there is a system message about some incompatibility with the current Aero interface which is the default Win7 setup. I clear any error messages, if necessary, force CoH to close, and then restart the game and get back on my team.
I've been having the same issues. This started maybe a couple of weeks back. Every time I exit the game, it locks up. This is preventing me from getting the i19 predownload, since the game is not shutting down normally.
I've installed the latest version of nVidia drivers and attempted to clean up my computer files. Nothing's helping. Not sure what else I can do.
Play my MA arcs!

Cat War! - ArcID #2788
Well, rolled back to 257 drivers and it isn't locking up, so at least I can download the I19 prepatch. Still no idea on what's causing it though.

Same problem here. Since the I19 download the game won't shut down, and I have to do the same dance as everyone here who's commented. Also, the game now locks every single time I try to enter an SG base. All other zoning works fine.

I am on Win7, 64-bit, the gamers adopted software, and a brand new Alienware computer, well as of the end of August. Dual Videos - ATI. And yes I do have the Alienware effects on. I have tried it with the Alienware effects both on and off and it still locks up.
I would say it is a 64-Bit issue but it seems some people with XP have the same lock-up so that is out.
It would be nice if a solution was found. In my Q&A book I label this a "serious" problem but with the game playable. When the software does not work correctly to me that is serious.
Every set of drivers since 257 have caused my computer to constantly lock up on exit and having to use Task Manager to kill the process, Since the new 260 seem to be working for most others, maybe it is something with my system. Any insight would be appreciated.
