Stone Tanks and Runspeed set bonuses
Its possible, not at all difficult, most players just take the teleport power, but its really personal preference.
Here's an old mids file I had, though it is for a brute, rather than a tanker. Also, made a few changes to it, but got a little bored and didn't finish. But, you'll notice that he's got soft capped defense for Smash/Leathal, and Resistance is almost capped. With Granite running he's got a runspeed of 26 mph. That's higher than a level 2 with sprint turned on. Just keep in mind that jumping will still be impossible unless you've got a dozen kins spamming IR on you.
So overall, you can still squeeze in some +runspeed without sacrificing survivability. Though I'd deleted this toon a while back, so I don't remember how good his damage/accuracy was. But he could survive!

And what sets and IOs do you look to for the movement speed bonuses, besides the Gift of the Ancients global?

Note the difference between "Sets for improving X," which merely lists all the sets that a given kind of power can take, and "Sets that improve Y," which lists all the sets that give a particular sort of bonus, like movement. Click on that and you'll get a chart with sortable columns (click the symbol at the top of each column). This is a VERY handy way to make slotting decisions.

It is worth chasing runspeed and movement increase bonuses for a stone tanker? Will it make slotting too tough or take away from other powers too much? And is the bonus worthwhile in Granite Armor, or just with the other armor toggles running? And what sets and IOs do you look to for the movement speed bonuses, besides the Gift of the Ancients global?
Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance! |
On my first stone tank I did a 4-slot franken-slot of
Luck of the Gambler Defense / Endurance
Luck of the Gambler 7.5%
Gift of the Ancients 7.5%
Gift of the Ancients Defense / Endurance
Now, that being said, spending slots on movement will only buy you so much. With both Granite and Rooted up, you'll have -10.02 + -12.89, or basically 22.91mph of your base run speed gone. So even if you rack up on movement speed boosts, you won't be moving very fast anyways.

Sets and bonuses worth looking at for a stone tank:
* Gift of the Ancients 7.5% runspeed: give a nice speed boost and about half a defense IO worth of enhancement
* Aegis: two pieces gives you a 5% runspeed bonus, three gives you 3.13% defense to fire/cold
* Kinetic Combat: five pieces gives you a 5% movement bonus, 3.75% defense to smashing/lethal, and a 1.5% hitpoint increase.
* Performance Shifter: two pieces will give you a 5% movement bonus and a nice increase to endurance recovery.
* Winter's Gift: three pieces will give you a 6% runspeed increase and a resistance to speed/recharge debuffs (and as a tank, you'll be drawing a *lot* of debuffs).
* Regenerative Tissue: Two pieces gives you a 4% runspeed bonus, three gives you a 1.5% hitpoint increase.
* Ghost Widow's Embrace: If you've got a hold from your epic power pool, two pieces will give you a 5% runspeed increase.
