Archery/Sonic
I wanted to make an Archery Corruptor and decided to take Sonic as a secondary. I don't know if it is a good combo or not as I haven't seen anything recently on the boards. And I haven't really played Corruptors much either.
So how do you think this combo would do? I figured it may be ok for teaming, but I'm not sure. Also, I am finding /Sonic's sounds a little annoying as it seems louder than others, especially compared to Archery which is pretty quiet. So I may reroll for a different secondary, but not sure which. He's only lvl 5 so I'm not losing much. |
Though, honestly, my favorite part about running /Sonic on a Corruptor is I hardly ever see Corruptors take that set.
@Gilia1
I play heroes on Champion.
I play villains on Virtue.
/Sonic is all about teaming. You can increase your allies resistances by a good amount, give mez protection to the other ranged characters, and do a good chunk of -res to the enemies. This is a cool combo, too, because you won't be redrawing your bow that much because of /Sonic.

Let me add that the advantage of /sonic is that you can focus a lot on blasting, and it feels very blasterish. But the disadvantage is that that /sonic doesn't offer much help soloing, so you will only have sonic dispersion to rely on as survivability tool, and how quickly you can take down targets using archery. That is why if you intend to solo sometimes (remember this is a teaming set primarily), stunning shot is a good choice to pick up.
Sonic Siphon though can be applied at a good distance, and it is single target focused, so it might work well with Archery.
Corruptors are probably the best Archetype for Sonic Resonance. It's next to useless solo, but thats ok because you deal good damage any. On a team it's extremely powerful, as others have said. Just remember that as times goes on you'll really start to see how lackluster it is solo and it'll impede on your soloing speed after around 16ish
Whining about everything since 2006.
Ammo switching for Dual Pistols was my idea:

Thanks for the input. I probably won't be soloing much with this character so I won't worry too much about how effective it is with that.
Are there any powers in either Archery or Sonic that I should absolutely take or avoid? Are the shields comparable to other secondary's shields? I don't know much about either set.

Thanks for the build advice. I will keep it in mind as I move forward. I'm at level 6 right now and have Snap Shot (the first power in Archery) which you don't list, but I guess I can respec out of it later. I just took it for an early attack since I wanted to pick up the shields for teaming. I guess I could have put them off, at least the second shield for fire, energy, etc..., until a bit later, but oh well.
And I was planning on leaving out Stamina since it will become inherent in I19. Maybe I will need it before then, but I may just suffer thru on blues until then.
Thank you for expending the effort to put together some ideas for a build.
I couldn't take the /sonic sound effects anymore so I want to remake him. I was thinking maybe /dark or /TA, but not sure which.
I would guess that pretty much all the secondaries cause redraw of the bow with, I assume, the exception of /TA. So I kind of lean toward that, but I still would like a team friendly secondary (and maybe some solo) so redraw doesn't bother me that much.
Any advice on which would be a good secondary is appreciated. FYI, I tend not to get characters to high level as my altitis kicks in. When I played pre-CoV days I only had one character get to level 40, but nothing else close to that out of 20 or 30 characters I made.
-Altitis: someday they'll find a cure.
I think you will probably like Archery/TA to be honest. Your contributions to your team may not be noticed, but you have a variety of tools you can use for many situations team, and solo.
You could also try /Rad.
I replaced the sound of Sonic Siphon with something less annoying. I doubt I could play the set with the original sound. I didn't bother with any of the others. They're not exactly a joy to listen to but they don't make me want to immediately log out and switch characters.
