Personally, having led server events of all sorts since 2005, I'd rather not piggyback an official event for things I'm organizing. I know I didn't like it when it happened to me when the event promoted was almost identical to my own, so I refrain from that.

Doesn't mean it's a bad idea. I'm just not comfortable doing it.

That could be a win-win for all involved.
That idea is actually very close to something a couple of Protector Mentor Project volunteers have proposed.

More on this, Soon™

Yeah, I think your perspective is in line with WRider's here re: new players on Protector.

The only problem with the suggestion is: this would then be a Mentor Project event, not a Protector New Player Council event. The intent was to promote Protector initially. Heck, we even had a couple of our friends who usually play on Justice were also assisting yesterday (which was great, thx guys ).

I think it's a great idea for a MP activity, despite the coordination and logistics issues, and I say "Go for it and propose it on the MP site".

On the other hand, if you were suggesting promoting a Protector event on other servers, then I've misinterpreted...

Protector seems to have gotten the reputation of being the "veteran" server somehow. Not that it is totally unearned, but I have seen where several new players have asked about which servers do what (Pinnacle is the drunken server, Virtue is the RP server, etc.) and we get hit with the "old timers" comment.

Just saying.

Edit: A lot of this is probably because on average we seem to be a more mature crowd. Only anecdotal evidence to support this, but there sure seem to be a lot of folks over the age of 18 hanging around here.

I'd think maybe most new players would be going through the Praetoria arcs. A brand new player who purchased Going Rogue with the full CoH has to start out in Praetoria;they dont have to stay there long, but new players may not know that. Is there a way to hold your event in Praetoria instead?

I've teamed with maybe a couple dozen new players since GR was released (0-1 vet badges). They all said the same things. They didn't know about global channels (yet), didn't read the forums (yet), and just wanted to play the actual game and try all the powersets before thinking about special events. They turned on looking for team (or sometimes just set a search comment indicating interest) and waited. The problem is few team leaders make pugs and invite randoms anymore.

So if you want to help new players, make pugs and invite anyone. Run a short tf or a story arc and have fun. Afterwards invite them to join a global channel or an sg/vg. And if you see them around again later, invite them again.

Save the PUG, Save Protector.

Sure, that could be done.

We did hold it in Pocket D so every "side" could have access to it - thinking it was the best way to reach everyone. But perhaps holding it in a specific zone would be an idea.

The problem with Pocket D is that most Praetorians don't know that they can access it and I am betting that a good majority of veterans don't know they can get to Pocket D from Praetoria, much less newbies.

Sorry to hear it didn't pan out as you all had hoped. I think your diagnosis on why it was less than well-attended is probably accurate, a combination of all factors (minus the new management comment, Stalemate). Chalk it up to factors beyond your direct control.

That said, based on the player halloween event, I do think there is an appetite (although maybe a short attention span as evidenced by lower turnout on day 2 of the CC) for player-led server events just based on comments from people along the lines of "when is the next one?". How many of those that attended were "new", i have no idea though.

I might be willing to help out in the future, pending availability, for whatever I can provide, which often isn't much more than sarcastic commentary and apparently good fundraising skills. But hey, it's a start!
