Got a new site and want some thoughts...
This is in no way directed to you personally. But frankly opinions are like *** holes, everyones got one, and now with the internet, everyone thinks you want to see theirs.
Other then that, the site looks nice. But i admit i didnt watch any reviews. Again nothing personal, i would just rather watch a review about the item being reviewed rather then someone trying to sell a personality around the review....say like a Yahtzee, glasses dude etc. Maybe ill check some out later, but overall i pretty much stick to reviews like gamestrailers etc, where there really isnt even a person on screen reviewing the product to ham it up.
Just curious though i was thinking this when that Shadow(whatever his name was) started pimping all his pasted links to his site, exactly how if we cant discuss games on these forums is it ok to post or link to sites that do sell, advertise and discuss other games and have that be ok within these forum rules?
The "posted on" doesn't always show the date. In none of the post do they show who the reviewer is going to be. One reviewer is labeled ThatGuyInTheCape, and don't get me started on that name, when his actual alias is The Cartoon Hero. Sound quality was subpar to start with and then there is the "and now we add in a comment about something that is taped separately and thus has a completely different volume level" moment. The effort is there, but the execution reeks of amateurism which shouldn't be there since ads are there. You put up ads, you are trying to pull in a profit.
EDIT: I'm an idiot. . I see most of the posts do give you an idea of who is doing it. I just happened to see one that didn't.

As for the quality of his videos (I think you were talking about his). I know he isn't the best but I enjoy his videos because he's usually pretty informative.

Two, We can't directly talk about games. What Shadowrush does would be considered indirect since they are talking about something else. I can link to my site(if I had one) that talks nearly non-stop about MMO X, but just link here to the other stuff on the site.

I'm glad you actually pointed that out because it made me realize I need to go through and alter some of the post titles. Gaming Pixie actually handled the actual design and I think she may have overlooked some things while trying to archive all the current videos, especially with Cartoon Hero since he had so many (Infact his getting added last is why there are so many of his near the front, unless you use the menus). But for the record, Cartoon Hero's blip channel actually is labeled "ThatGuyInTheCape" because I think that was originally going to be his alias before he realized how unoriginal it was.

The video I saw had inconsistent volume issues. The sound didn't sync up with his mouth at all. There might be the minor issue of using a "Vault Disney" clip as a segway to your vault. I think you just have to really think about the format you are using to put out the info. When there are that bad of errors they need to get fixed, or just try written, or purely audio format. Whatever the reviewer feels most comfortable with. The fact that the review style is a copy/paste of better known reviewers doesn't help.
I thought it would be interesting to do an episode where you do a unbiased review on other review sites since you review everything. Although, I have no idea if that has been done before.
The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

On another note, things have been reorganized so not only are they listed by their original dates but the front page isn't filled with Cartoon Hero anymore.
In the middle of some things at the moment, but I've got the site bookmarked and will give it a look when I get the chance.
Games are not the only focus of our site. Infact at the moment the only member who is just a game reviewer is Gaming Pixie. I review well... everything. Neither Cartoon Hero or Arthur Knowledge do game reviews.

If the members of this forum though can start their own sites, and link to them on these forums, and on those pages find discussion of games, reviews, advertising etc. then how is this any diffferent then if we still had threads here about them. For isntance, Shadowrush's site has alot of information about other subjects, and movies and such. But almost everytime ihave gone there and followed a link there is a game of some type being advertised on the banner ads for the subject linked to here. So sure i might be going to see pic of the captian america movie, but im assualted with advertising for WoW when i go their. And advertising that i would assume someone is profiting off of.
Again i am not pointing fingers at you only. I know advertsing is everywhere. But it would seem to me that linking to sites that have a decent stake in discussing other games is just like posting threads here. I can understand saying oh well Superherohype.com is a fan site for many things. And its kinda out of control to say that you cant link to it because one banner ad comes up for a game. But if the site itself has one of itsmajor stakes in reviewing, advertising or discussing game releases, then i fail to see a difference to discussing it here.
It isnt just the idea of gaming reviews im talking about. What i mean is that NC Soft it seems basicly has said that they didnt want discussion other games on their forums. I would assume because they feel that it is directly or indirectly giving their competition advertising for their products.

I really only have one thing to say...
Stop trying to be a knock off.
If you want me to care then you should be creative enough to be able to come up with your own style not be a knock off of someone else, especially as a critic that is criticizing creative things. Critics get enough flack for not being creators of the various creative media forms...it only makes it worse when the best you got is to take someone else' idea.
PS nothing against you.
I don't really mimmick anyone else's particular style in my reviews, unless you want to count anyone who talks into a camera as a knock off.
I have a new site up known as Reviewers Unknown. Basicly it's a site for lesser known internet review videos. We have 5 members at the moment including me. Two others you may recognize as posters from this forum(Zikar and General Knowledge). I guess the easiest way to describe it would be as a poor man's version of That Guy With the Glasses.
Since I enjoy the thoughts of people on these forums, I thought I'd just ask you guys what you think of the site.
