Help Fire / Elec tank build

It's been a long time since I've played. like 600 + days.

However my son has the bug, and the wife and I decided that this might be a good game to try him out on. He's rolling plant/plant dom, and she's rolling fire/kin corrupter. I'll be rolling fire/elec tank, and I'm just having a hard time getting a build pulled together for myself so I'm looking for comments.

Thanks in advance.

How much inf do you think you'll want to spend on this toon?

EDIT

Also, is this for issue 19? I noticed you don't have Fitness in here.

I can post something later but you need FireyEmbrace hasten and you will need Buildup or you will be way to weak to kill anything. 6 slot burn and also think about not taking jacobs ladder.. take buildup for sure. I don't think you should use self aid either as you have healing flames which will more than do the job.

First you need Stamina with 4+ toggles. you wont be able to run them and attack without flooring your end. When i19 comes out, stamina will be inherant so you can respec then.

You dont really need Aid Self if you take Healing Flames early. I would recommend Hasten - Healing Flames and Super Speed, then take Combat Jumping instead of Aid Self. With 3 recharge in Hasten and 3 recharge in Healing Flames it will come up every 13 - 15 seconds.

You need Firery Embrace and Buildup for your AoE's or it will take forever to kill things.

Another reason not to take Aid Self is that it's interruptable, and you probably won't end up with enough defense to reliably fire it off when you need it.

Here's something you could do for dirt cheap. I'm not a fire aura expert so this might not be ideal, but it'd be a place to start on a tight budget.

here, I took yours and modified it. I whipped this together really fast so it is open to modifying to suit your taste. For sets , just throw Red Fortunes in def shields and Titanium Coatings in res shields. Or if you dont want to worry about IO sets, just put 3 end and 3 res or def IO's or even SO's( for Healing Flames go 3 recharge, 3 healing ) don't put anymore than 3 IO's or SO's of a kind in a power.

This was looking forward to I19 since we're only going to play a few hours a week.

I don't mind spending money, but I don't have that much to spend. so cheap is probably good for now.

I took Aid Self for the Res, since no one else in our group will have a res.

I'll go over the builds more closely shortly, I didn't expect such a quick and helpful response...guess I should have known better though, since this community is second to none.

Thanks.

You can buy a Temp Power: Resuscitator from Wentworths for like 10,000 inf. I have one on half my characters and its good for 10 charges.

Since i'm going to have a kin healer, is healing myself that important while leveling?

She also does mad fire dmg, so i wasn't too worried about doing dmg while leveling, should i be focused more on dmg?

I'm liking the build Brakner through together, just not sure how i feel about hasten, hence the feedback question about healing myself.

Sweet, didn't know that. Thanks.

I play a brute elec/fire and I use something similar to this and it works very well.

Teaming is cool but sometimes your allies go down and when they do you need to stay up. I think its important to be as self sustaining as possible in all aspects.

I have taunt in here but really you have so much AOE with this mostly cheap build that you may find you don't really need it. Whatever you like.. the oblits are a bit spendy but you must have them! Your defence is average so I hope you can rely on your team to help you out for that. Its easy to soft cap your S/L def down the road if you like to help you take a real beating but as it is you will need your teams help to keep you alive in harder fights.

Anyway you can improve on this build mightly if you want to but you would have to spend to get it. This build will work even for I19 and you can then pick some other power pools but be aware that you could only one slot them.

You can also get an ally rez power from a Day Job Accolade. Get the University and Hospital day job badges and you get a rez power that can have up to 15 charges. It'll take you a while to get (21 days logged out for each), but it gives you another option in the long term.

Keep in mind that you'll the the team's tank. While I think it's cool that you want to round out the team's capabilities, I don't think you'll have many situations where you're alive and everyone else is dead.

Plus you have Wakies an the ability to create Wakies from other inspirations.

Add to that the fact that Aid Self just isn't a very good power for your powerset combo, and I'd really recommend picking something else. Obviously it's your call, though. We're just trying to arm you.

There's also a Day Job Accolade, Physician, which gives you rechargeable charges of ally resurrect for free, just for logging off in the right places. Might be a good approach for characters that are only played a few hours a week. You can even get both the purchasable power and the Day Job power so that you have two rez powers available in case one is still recharging.

I like the build that BellyButtonJelly put together. With I19 I'm going to pick up recall friend, so I can taxi, Jacobs Ladder, and then either Rise of the Phoenix or Super Jump

Kinetics has just the one heal. Transfusion is handy, yes, but most of what a Kineticist does is buff you. You'll be much better at the things you do, but if you don't have the powers that do them, you're in trouble.

Yes, Healing Flames and Burn are big parts of Fiery Aura's mitigation. Personally, I think Hasten is redundant, especially with a Kineticist giving you Speed Boost in the 20s, but you're a resistance tank. Lots of attacks hit you. Not many of them hit hard, but you need to get your health back up somehow, and Healing Flames is how you do that. Transfusion is nice, but HF is faster, and that'll give the Fire/Kin more time to blast.

The other side to a Fire tanker is that defeated foes do no damage. Burn + Thunder Strike is going to leave a whole lot of defeated enemies, and every enemy you defeat is one less that can hurt your team. Your little trio has a lot of damage, but somewhat limited mitigation. Fire/Elec can't really add much mitigation except by dropping things, so build to drop things quickly.

the only other question i have is, would fire/elec be the right set to play with the fire/kin corrupter, or would something else like maybe shield / * make more sense?

Just about any tank works well with a Kin. Willpower wouldn't be the best, since it already has great recovery, doesn't benefit from recharge, and can have issues holding aggro. Every other type of tank thinks Kins are delicious.

Fire/Elec, on this team, will make for a great steamrolling team. /Kin takes a while to mature, but Fire/ gets all its direct survivability tools by level 12, so you'll be in a great position to keep the Fire/Kin happy when they're at their weakest. At the other end, Fiery Aura will be a little less sturdy than the other tanker primaries, but Fiery Embrace plays so well with Fulcrum Shift (it adds extra fire damage that is buffed by +dmg effects) that you'll be able to steamroll through missions. And the great thing about a Speed Boosted Fire tank is that if they can't kill you in 30 seconds, they can't kill you.

Shield Defense would give you better end-game performace through capped defense, and add another AoE nuke, but you would then have two of your three characters being relatively late-blooming - the Fire/Kin really peaking once it has Transference and Fulcrum Shift, and the Shield/ waiting for an IO build that'll push it to the soft cap. Might make the lower levels a little awkward.

Frankly, it sounds like a great little team. Nearly any Tanker primary will do the job, since your real obligation is to keep most of the aggro off the Dom and Corr who will be horribly mutilating your foes. Fire/Elec does that through heavy AoE damage and Gauntlet, but any tanker has ways to keep themselves, and not the squishies, as the centre of aggro.

I put this together real quick at work, but I think it will get similar #'s to some above builds, but will also give you better recharge for your Lightning Rod and should be cheaper. Multi-strikes are cheap and even free if you AE farm for tickets. Those Oblit sets are very expensive. Of course, there are a couple expensive things in my build, too. The unique IO's for Steadfast Def 3%, Regen tissue, Perform Shifter and Kismet 6% aren't cheap. However, if you run some AE missions, you can pretty easily get those by buying the 10-30 lvl bronze random receipe rewards. They are random, but I seem to get them pretty easily with 4000 tickets or less. Plus you will get some stuff that you can sell to help pay for the ones you dont get, or other things you'll need to buy. Finally, the Luck of the Gambler recharge IO is EXTREMELY expensive. I suggest running 4-5 TF's and using merit rewards to buy it. It takes 200, but to buy it from WW's will be in the hundred millions. That is ok if you're rolling in cash, but that is a lotta jack for just one IO, IMHO.

Oh well, its just a thought, but I think this is a budget build that will give you all you need to tank well. Later on, you can swap out the multi-strikes for oblits, if u really want to. By the way, with this build, you will never run out of endo. I like endo overkill, nothing sucks more than running out of end or waiting for it to rest up. When I19 comes out you will get stamina and health for free. That will free up 3 new pwrs for you. If you keep energy epic, laser beam eyes is a good pwr to take as the decimation and entropic sets are both very good and it will give you a ranged attack you don't have. Other than that, you still have 2 more pwrs to select at your will. Temp prot and Chain induction would be nice to add it. to me, lightning clap, rise of the phoenix and jacobs is a waste, but that is my opinion.

happy family gaming
