SSA 2.2 is actually 35 to 50, not 35 to 45.

I wanted to add an update in case other Alienware owners stumble across this thread. Finally resolved the problem. The crashes started occurring more frequently and in other games. Turned out the video card was bad. Alienware replaced the card and now everything runs fine on max settings. Also, the game appears to run fine with the current versions of the various Alienware programs (command center, alienfx, alienrespawn, etc). So if you are having problems, the Alienware programs are not necessarily at fault.
-
I played around with the graphics setting. Any level of environmental reflections causes a blue screen. Shadow Quality above "lowest" causes a bluescreen. Any level of Ambient Occlusion causes a blue screen. It looks like I can turn the other graphics settings up with no problems. This was all while running FSAA at 16x.
I ran the Furmark benchmark (which I understand is a fairly brutal OpenGL benchmark), to see if that would result in a crash, but was able to run the Burn-In test just fine and got a score of a little under 4000. -
At the suggestion of CoH tech support I tried disabling all non-Microsoft services, including the Steam service, and still got the same crash, so it doesn't appear to be Steam. I've also tried a fresh install of CoH, that didn't help either. Windows is up to date. I haven't tried a fresh install of Windows, but I did restore it to the factory default image (though if there were an error in the original image then that wouldn't help) before I did the fresh CoH install. I've run various Alienware and Dell diagnostics, but none of those detected anything. I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic, but it didn't detect any problems either.
I'm going to try playing around with the graphics setting to see if I can figure out if there is one specific slider that's causing the problems. -
I launch the game through the CoH launcher, and I don't have Steam running when I play, but someone pointed out that the Steam Service is running in the background services.
-
The machine is overclocked out of the box. This is my first overclocked machine, so I'm going to have read up on overclocking before I start tinkering with the Bios. I know basics, but I'm not comfortable tinkering with more advanced Bios settings.
I was able to play with no crashes in safemode. I switched off safe mode and turned the graphics slider to the Performance setting, with 1920x1080 resolution and slowly moved up to 16x FSAA (haven't tried going up to max FSAA). I've been able to play at Performance for about two hours total with no crashes, so it appears to be stable. Moving up to the next step on the graphics slider (Recommended) results in crashes within a few minutes.
This was all without adjusting the Steam service. Overlooked that part before. -
I tried killing the AlienFX process, but still get the same crash. I tried the option for not allowing third party programs to access Alienfx, but that didn't help either. I also tried a clean install of the Alienware Command Center, as some people have reported that helping, but that didn't solve it either.

Hello all,
I got a new Alienware Aurora R4, Intel Core i7-3820, 4.1 ghz, 8 gb DDR3 ram at 2133 MHz, with a Geforge 680 GTX and Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium. Ever since installing CoH I can't play for more than about 10 minutes without getting a blue screen showing a stop at 0x00000116 and mentioning nvlddmkm.sys. I've tried clean installs of the latest geforce drivers (301.42) as well as the latest beta drivers, but those don't help. I've tried disabling the sound card to see if there was a conflict there, but that didn't help either. I've tried adjusting the graphics settings in Coh, but haven't found one that works.
CoH seems to be the only thing crashing. Skyrim ran fine for the hour+ I tested it on max graphics and overheating doesn't seem to be the issue.
Any help you can offer in trying to track the problem down would be greatly appreciated.

Major bug with the Casino Heist mission. For no apparent reason, some team members fail to teleport back to the base after the first and/or second stages. I've done 6 of the events and had it happen 3 times. Hopefully this can be fixed ASAP, as it's fairly event breaking.
-
The patch notes said that First Ward arcs now award 7 merits. I just completed Nadia's arc and it is still awarding only 2.
-
A friend of mine said that he's having lots of mobs run from his EA scrapper, which you normally wouldn't see if it has a taunt aura. The taunt doesn't show up in the discription and the power doesnt take taunt enhancers, so I wonder if it was broken recently. Is anyone else having a problem with runners?
-
Nope. It went through some changes over the years, but in it's current form weapon redraw does delay your attack chain.
Here's a thread that's not too old:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=243121 -
The new front page isn't displaying correctly on Firefox 7. The link to click through to the main page doesn't show up, so you are stuck on the trailer video screen.
Here's a screenshot.

You have to do one of the villain patron arcs to unlock the villain epic/ancillary pools. Once you unlock one, though, they are all unlocked for respecing. The hero pools should show up automatically.
-
When do Paragon Points and Reward Tokens from your monthly subscription get added to your account? My renew date was a few days ago, but nothing has shown up yet.
-
Heroes don't appear to be receiving introductions to Admissions Officer Lenk for the IO tutorial anymore. You can still go to him on your own and start the tutorial.
-
Quote:Clearly Zwill needs some free character slots on his account so he can make veats and heats. I'm sure that's why he hasn't made one yet, because he just doesn't have enough slots, right? Give the man some character slot tokens and he'll have level 50 epics in no time.Everyone seems to be getting on Zwill's case about not knowing something about the game.
The game is BIG. Everyone misses something. I told a designer the other day that you can combine two enhancements that are already IN a power (i.e. not including one in your tray) and they had no idea that was in the game. Been there since launch (or a little after), not many people know it can be done because the UI was set up for simplification in this case. -
It's all the server hamster's fault. Someone "accidentally" fed him some water from the Well of Furies, and now Paragon Studios has a fully Incarnate hamster playing havoc with their network. How can you expect the servers to withstand frequent tier 4 Ion Judgments and constant summoning of angry hamster Cimerorans? Last night he unlocked the Omega slot, which is clearly a violation of the EULA, so they have no choice but to take the servers down and send in some incarnate gerbils to "arrest" the server hamster.
Positron isn't available for comment because he's still recovering from an Ion Judgment to the face. Hell hath no fury like a hamster scorned.
And yes, it probably is a Nemesis plot. Nemesis asked for some vacation time this weekend, but his request was denied.
Anyone come up with a picture of a hamster in Ascension armor? -
The invite a friend feature is no longer available in account management, but the NCSoft launcher still has ads for it.

I recently installed a new Geforce GTX 560 Ti, switched from a Radeon 5770. I also installed a new 700 watt power supply (Corsair GS700). Before the switch, I had no problems with CoH. Now, though, the game randomly locks up hard, requiring a reboot to unlock. Any advice on what might be the problem? I uninstalled the ATI drivers before installing the Geforce drivers. It doesn't seem to be an overheating problem.

Sets will only work on pet powers appropriate to the set. Pet damage sets only help pet powers that do damage, so the endurance portion of a Blood Mandate Damage/Endurance won't affect the Demon's healing power. And a healing set heal/end wouldn't help the pet's attacks. I assume that a Hami-O would work with all of a pet's powers, but haven't tried it.

I assume you mean damage enhancements rather than damage procs. It's a display bug. It has to do with the fact that the power takes both Damage and Resist Damage enhancements. Resist Damage enhancements have an ED cap of approximately 55%, and the display incorrectly shows the Damage enhancement as capping at that amount as well. You should be receiving the full amount of Damage enhancement even though it doesn't display properly. The bug has been around since they added the powerset.
