Foam Pumpkin Carving
Absolutely!
I think it would look fantastic carved onto one of my pumpkins.
Thicker lines and maybe a little less detail around the eyes and nose (if possible). Also the foam holds up pretty well when it's cut moderately thin, but the patch of fur on his forehead over his right eye really should connect all the way across, otherwise it might collapse.
Sorry to be nitpicky, I just want to insure that your great design transfers fine without issues.

CR's avatar looks like a pumpkin carving...
This is so silly that I have to try it, even if we don't have Halloween (or big pumpkins) over here.

Wow all so very very good, I would actually buy some of those pumpkins, as long as they weren't ridicusly priced. Maybe about 20 bucks or so they are really good.
Cancel the kitchen scraps for widows and lepers, no more merciful beheadings and call off christmas!
CR - I was going to mention the ear and the perhaps too detailedness of yours but wanted to see it on a screen besides my phone first But besides the fact the details may be a bit too fine to easily carve, you did a fantastic job!!
Airhead - Legen...... ((wait for it.....)) dary!! Is that actually carved onto a pumpkin?? It looks fabulous! Did you make a pattern first or what?? And while it is obviously recognizable as Airhead to those who know the character, that particular pic is also spooky enough to fit nicely on a pumpkin for those who don't! Great job.
@Mystic: Okay cool, I'll see what I can do with the bits you pointed out later tonight.
@Caemgen: Thanks man. Yeah I like the little details in my drawings but they certainly increase the difficulty if one were to actually try and carve it heh.
No Airhead's image is not an actual carved pumpkin but it is a well executed photo manip.
@Airhead: Kudos man I had to stare at your pic for a few seconds to be sure.
Aye, mine's a fake - sorry about that. As I said, we don't got big pumpkins 'round here.

P.S. Aye? Now I be wishin' I'z had been round the forums for ITLAPD... ah well there by Halloween yet. YAAAAARRRR!
Erf, I can't find these pumpkins! What stores carry them?
A store called Michaels seems to have them... Whether those ar ein your are or not, I have no idea. But if not, you should check those part supply store type places, arts and crafts good type places or oder online and pay for extra speedy delivery?
Amd Airhead - No worries that they're not actual carvings. You did trick me at first bt I noticed after I posted but it was cool enough I saw no reason to take away any of the complimnts through editing And the Caemgen head looks awesome as well! Many thanks!
The only place I've found them at is Michael's, I'm not sure if these particular foam pumpkins are exclusive to Michael's or not. I've read of a similar product called fun-kins which are sometimes found at Michael's but mostly Joann Fabrics. I've never worked with them though. So I couldn't offer any feedback on them. The 10" fun-kins there are about the same size as medium size pumpkins from Michael's that I carved Batman and Cinderella on.

I've also seen them at Target and small ones at Dollar Tree.
Okay. I already tried Target with no luck last night, but I'll see if I can get to Michael's or JoAnn's sometime soon, because those do exist here. Ugh, I HATE not having a car... it'd be like 15 minutes if I drove, but taking the bus is three times slower.
Low quality styrofoam, dull pumpkin carving saw, and no stencils to work from, but here's what I managed to carve out. Will have to figure out best way to get lit shots over the weekend maybe.
The Archetype icons look great, Bubbawheat! Nicely done.
Well I made it back to Michael's today and saw that the foam pumpkins were now 60% off, so I picked up 2 more large ones for $7.99 each and two more medium sized ones for $4.99. Pretty hard to pass them up at that price. They still had tons. I might go back on the 1st to see if they've dropped any further.. What can I say, I'm addicted! :P
So, I managed to track down scans of a Universal Monsters stencil book that Pumpkin Masters put out in 2003. So now I have a cooler looking Mummy than Zombie Pumpkins has and..
wait for it..

Now, don't get me wrong, CR, your design is so much cooler! It's just that after I thought about it, I felt like a jerk for nitpicking and asking you to make changes to something you did out of kindness. Plus, I really wanted to get my monsters set completed so I could show them off this weekend
I've got a few more coming up, stay tuned!

Great work, Everyone!
If anyone is up for a herculean task of pumpkin carving, I (unsurprisingly and unabashedly) offer myself (yet again!) as a model!

Mine would've been really tough to carve but it was worth trying to make one anyway.
@Bubba: Mystic said he tried different ways to make his lit pumpkins show up better in photos, maybe ask him what he is doing.
Something to better show off your carvings masterpieces in low light...
Only took a minute or so in photoshop to clean up the noise and punch it up a bit.
Well, I've FINALLY gotten my hands on a pumpkin - a twelve-inch Funkin from JoAnn's - so expect something soon! All I need now is a fake tealight and an X-Acto knife and I'm in business.
So I've been trying to track down stencils of the more obscure Universal Classics, namely Lon Chaney's Phantom.. Well the ones I found were either designed for a 'shaded' pumpkin or.. they simply looked nothing like the character. Finally I said, "To heck with it!" and designed my own using various photos I found on the interwebz.. This was a 8+ hour project in Photoshop.
Still not quite happy with it, but the Phantom is a tough subject to stencil because of his unique features. I might try and carve this if I get the time later today.

The Widowlantern lives!
Oops yeah I see what you mean with the center of his ear floating and not attached to anything...
what looked good in a pencil sketch doesn't necessarily work in a cutout pattern lol.
If you actually want to try carving this beast of a stencil I can fix the ear and thicken up
a few of the really delicate lines for ya Mystic, it would make for a fun collab.
