Aggro cap = tanker "stealth"
I usually farm Tips w/my controllers, blaster or scrappers for the combination of stealth & kill speed, but sometimes on my Fire tank as well, since he can kill plenty fast, and I stuck in a stealth IO in a prestige sprint. Yesterday, I was running Tips w/my SD/Axe tank who I hadn't equipped w/a stealth IO yet, and I sorta wanted some XP anyway (sitting at 40 atm), so instead of setting the missions to -1/x1, which is my usual Tips settings for speed, I put it at -1/x4, for easy, but many kills. AAO running, I'd speed by mobs to get to the glowies, but not really care about picking up aggro. When I'd get to the glowies, any mobs nearby would completely ignore me, because I'd already filled up the aggro cap! I'd click on the glowie undisturbed, the trailing mobs would eventually catch up, I'd kill some, then the mobs nearby would start shambling towards me. Prolly works even better at -1/x8.

"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."
That's a good use for prestige sprint, by the way.
This doesn't actually work with a damage aura, since damaging a mob not on your aggro list will push him to the top and bump somebody off. Still, very nice catch. I hadn't thought of trying this myself.
That said, my DA tank "stealths" with his damage aura on and can usually click the glowies despite people swinging.
Where to now?

Stealth is about avoiding detection. I guess aggro capping is selective avoidance.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
...sure.
As a matter of fact, aggro-surfing is how I usually spike hard content on a scrapper, such as the second mission in the ITF. I never bother with stealth IO's on any reasonably sturdy toon anymore. Works much better on tanks, I just bail out of the aggro knot and kill my aura.
I have to say, the aggro cap is one of the most annoying things, it's completely immersion-breaking for me. But hey, I'll happily exploit it if I have to put up with it anyway.

This happens frequently on my scrapper when I am pulling 2 or 3 closeby spawns as close as possible. There are some (or a lot) of stragglers who won't start coming until a good block of the first are defeated.
On missions where stealth running to the end can help, I occasionally "Tanker Stealth" to the end and teleport everyone using my vet reward. That refers to just running through mobs and ignoring their damage, though (turning off your damage toggle does help there, too, though). Bit harder to do on Synapse since the Clockwork are persistent buggers and follow you everywhere for a long time.
