Just as a side note:
EST = Eastern Standard Time (First Sunday in November through the Second Sunday in March in the US. In Europe it's the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.) EDT = Eastern Daylight Time. Which is what we are on now and will be for the finals. (Except in Europe, they'll be on Standard Time) And of course there is Arizona, Hawaii and some parts of Canada that do not observe the time changes. As well as Asia, most of Africa, most of Australia and South America. Oh, yeah, and Iceland. Just a little clarity for when you post times. Vorac: your friendly neighborhood time nazi. |
Lastly, I don't think what Ice said can be refuted - if you forgot about it, missed it, couldn't be bothered to find out what time it was then clearly it wasn't the most important thing in your life.
And in at least one poster here, it's something I can empathize with; having been there. Still doesn't make it Ice's responsibility to constantly remind people to attend; indeed if regular hami raids require such regular reminders, then I'd argue it'd be a waste of time and energy. But as has been pointed out, it's up to PERC to do it how they wish to do it.

I'm sorry, but it IS their responsibility to remind folks. It's their contest. You'd think they would WANT to remind people because real life does tend to get in the way. It's rather insulting to say anything else. Of course it wasn't the most important thing in my life. My mother being in the hospital? Yeah. But the fun stuff that I get to do when I'm NOT worried about whether she's eating or pooping herself? Gee, you'd think I could stand a reminder, because I honestly can't even remember what DAY it is sometimes because I'm a little preoccupied.
Putting up a time conversion is a minute part of any organizational post. It's something that should, by any and all accounts, be inserted in EVERY SINGLE POST regarding an event, I don't care whether you think it's stupid that some of us can't convert in our heads or even care to google it - if it had been done right there in that first post, by the person RUNNING THE EVENT, I would not have written down the WRONG time. Pretty simple.
You are correct: Because they've been laughably bad about this for 5 years running. Sure, it's "their event". Then they should figure out "player event" doesn't just mean "whoever they scrape up to participate".
Those of us here on the forums DO participate. And we HAVE given our feedback. Sad to say, "adding rules" does not mean "adding fun and participation". Obviously.

Instead of all this word lawyering about what was 'said' 'not said' 'posted' 'not posted' I think you need to chill out and realize this is just a game. I think everyone would be willing to give you a pass at this point because of what you dealing with IRL but you need to calm down.
Thanks for the update, Dazz, even though, judging by the reports I heard - I could not make the event either - I was not aware there was any male contestants at all...
Too bad it had to be done by the Senior Rep from Champion, which kinda confirms there is no more PERC reps for Protector. And no, I'm not volunteering. Been there, done that, didn't work last time. |
PS: If any of you know of anybody who would like to help us represent you guys send me a PM! I would love to get you guys a rep so you are best represented. I love representing mine!

Zek, you may as well ignore this individual, he is certainly not here for any real discourse. He is clearly just trying to get a rise out of you.
Frankly, I say that there's nothing left to do except drop the issue.
The most the PERC can take away from this situation is that a lot of players felt the event was mishandled, both in advertising and in execution, and players have learned something of a lesson regarding paying closer attention to events in which they have an interest.
We could go on and on, but I think it's time to move on.

I appologize for creating somewhat of a flamefest here, that was not my intent. I have attended other perc events over the years and appreciated all the planning that went into them. Most had been executed very well. This was the first "bad" experience with an event and as it ended so abruptly, I was just looking for some answers.

And I hope that players learn that the only person responsible for their remembering to attend or to schedule an appearance is themselves; times posted in all earthly timezones, plus emails, plus IMs, plus tweets, plus candygrams while nice are by no means required - some level of player ownership should be involved.
Of course, if player ownership is involved, then the event should be felt to be worthwhile by said players.

First off I do think if the need be it would not be a big deal if we add the times for all Timezones from PST to EST if the need be. This is not a bad suggestion as for the rest.....I can relate I have been on both sides of this event, I've been judged, I've been a judge, I've been a helper, and been a losing semifinalist before. The most I can say is come again next year, host your own event, apply to join PERC, or just go and have fun in the game and just ignore us PERC people, or whatever. Blow off the steam and get back to "the game" and just enjoy the game. After all that is what this game is here for, that is all anyone that ever hosts an event, makes a SG, forms a Team, and gathers people for PVP, Raids, TF's, SF's and so on is trying to do.
I think that some of what I said can be applied to all that have been wronged, or think they have been wronged in this contest from whatever year it was does not matter, just take my ranting’s as it is, and try to enjoy yourself. This applies to contestant and PERC people alike, I am from both sides and see both sides of the "contest" so I can both relate and empathize with both matters.
This was a reply from someone on Triumph and they are correct.
While I typically do not defend PERC...
I 'believe' (I can only guess, because I am not part of PERC) that this years speedy version of the contest was in fact due to complaints last year about how long it took. I also believe that the 'no pre-registration' was due to issues last year where people complained about walk-ins. While I am not a huge fan of the biggest rewards/prizes being given out for a subjective contest, I think PERC did make the attempt to fix some of the issues raised last year. What I kind of find a little ridiculous, is the issue that people need to be reminded that a contest is going to happen. The threads were posted, and for the most part bumped prior to the event. I think people really need to take some responsibility for themselves if they want to participate in a contest. Do you expect the lottery to come to your door each Tuesday and Thursday to remind you to buy a ticket because the drawling is the next night? As far as being on the community calender, I think that is a very valid point. I honestly though, don't even know where this calender is and I may not be typical but I just find out about things by reading the forums. |
I was in the CC, and I have to say, I was pretty disappointed too. I felt like the judges hardly looked at anyone's costumes and like they knew who they were going to choose before we even showed up, let alone before the semi-finals.
Yeah, there were only eight female characters on the platform, but there were two others floating around the D, and no one tried to chivvy them onto the platform or let them know what was going on at all. The judges saw there were eight women and went "okay, there are eight of you, you're all in the semifinals!" and never looked at our costumes before the powers segment. All four judges looked at my costume for a grand total of about five seconds, after I worked on the concept, costume, and bio for the past month. The powers segment where we were supposed to get a minute each? Some of us got thirty seconds, some got a minute and fifteen seconds. I have loved doing this event in the past and I have enjoyed it, and I have always cheered for the winners. However, this year, I felt that no one was really given a fair chance to shine, and the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. At the end of the event, the winners were announced in the Arena chat only and not in Pocket D or anywhere else, and no runners-up were announced. It was really confusing and disappointing to me to basically hear "Okay, these are the two winners, bye everyone!" I've been running events since I joined the game, and I'm sad to say you guys really dropped the ball on this one. It's not hard to run a costume contest where people feel like their work is appreciated and enjoyed. I doubt I'll be returning next year or at all if this is how things are going to be run. And by the way-it's PERC's event and it's PERC's job to promote it, not ours. Way to show the playerbase how much you guys care about us by being outright rude when we come to you with our concerns. |
But if you really want to do something about it talk to a PERC member or join up.

Neither I, or my friend received any such tells from any of the 5 of you that were there at any given time.
|
As for the list of PERC reps for the servers there is a list as Dazz said but noticing it is missing as he said. Though perhaps we might publish the full list for the players that are on multiple servers. But that is not my call.
Striker, I appreciate your comments.
I was pretty annoyed when Ice Knight responded to Zek's concerns with "If you actually cared, you'd have paid attention."
I appreciate you at least acknowledging the concerns instead of dismissing them.
Then you are not the one I happened to see and sent a tell to. We are like everyone else in this game only human bound to make a mistake or not notice everyone randomly running around the D. I'm sorry that I did not notice you or your friend or send you both tells about the line up.
|
Hey Arch... there is usually a sticky thread on each server where the rosters (just for local server reps) is listed. I do not see such in your server. I will consult Ice & MP and see what we can do about getting one posted.

The Abrams is one of the most effective war machines on the planet. - R. Lee Ermy.
Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?
A: You crash into another one.
We were actually quite stationary in front of the Male judging but fair enough, I can accept the fact that we were un-noticed and put it to rest.

It sounds like it might have been a better tactic to simply send out a single broadcast or request announcement in the zone, rather than trying to catch everyone with tells, then. That way, it hits everyone, whether the reps see them or not, or at least everyone who hasn't taken the channels off their chat windows.

For the Finals tonight, test is being a little wonky.
If your test is updated -- you can get in by making a shortcut to the cityofheroes.exe (not the updater, but the file) and after the " of the target add -project cohtest and yes there needs to be a space between the " and -
This will allow you to get on to the test server.
Contestants who are absolutely unable to get onto test, please contact me in game @Madame Pistacio and we will work something else out. Hopefully everyone should be able to use this fix and get on.
