3. WoW did all of those motions with bears and cats. Obviously it wasn't that hard.

4. Looking at a bigger picture: WoW has animal bodies (that work fine no matter which way your running, or WALKING), and DCUO is going to have them as well. Do we want to get left in the dust? I don't know... I don't...
1. You're posting on an open forum, which basically invites any and everyone to respond to your post.

2. Yes, all of these things are fairly obvious requirements. They're also incredibly labor-intensive requirements. These are the sort of resources you need to -start- a game with, unless you have the incredibly deep pockets of another game we're not supposed to mention.

3. The game we're not supposed to mention has pockets so deep all of the players of CoH standing on each other's shoulders would not be able to see -out- of a pocket deep enough to hold one-year's revenue for that other game we're not supposed to mention.

4. That other game we're not supposed to mention NEEDED Animal bodies in order to have NPC animals so at level 1 you could hunt little wolves or bears or what have you. City of Heroes is a superhero MMO, where such animal skeletons are almost completely un-needed by NPCs. Ergo the investment to payout is -far- smaller than you seem to believe.

Too much work for too little result. And by "Too much Work" I mean "Enough work that unless you're building the MMO from the ground up, don't bother adding this feature"

I was a little iffy on mentioning other games, thank you for clarifying. This does make a lot of sense to me now, however I initially felt that each Issue seems to be a fairly large project and did not think that this idea would be too far'fetched for such a project.

Now that you mention it, it does make sense that the other games have that option, as they already have animal "skeletons" at their disposal (and a butt-load of cash), or are "building their MMO from the ground up".

However, this is still something I would like to see implemented, no matter how unlikely it may be.

Cool. cool. And yes, each issue -is- a fairly big thing.

But we only have about 60 devs, and some work with costumes, some work with animations, some work with artwork for maps, others work on text, strictly. Still others engineer new options and methods of interacting with the engine (Mission Architect, Multi-choice text, etc) and still others manage the various groups without adding in nearly as much output as the people they supervise.

All in all, it's a fairly small operation when it comes to advancing and maintaining such a well-designed MMO. =-3

But here's hoping! Animals and Muscular females!

Maybe fat guys and gals, too!

I read the entirety of your post, just to make sure you didn't account for the problems anywhere in it.

The problems are ones of workload. Introducing a new skeleton requires brand new animations for everything ever. Even a single powerset would require work that is, frankly, impossible to justify unless you have money to throw in the fireplace so you can listen to the cracking of the fire.

That has always been the problem with new player rig suggestions - everything that the rig does has to be made specifically for it. Extra human rigs have the benefit of easier adaptation, as BABs once explained it was easier to clone an animation from model to model than it was to make one from scratch. However, what you're suggesting is a model for which no animations would be applicable, and for which everything would have to be made out of whole cloth.

WoW has plenty of animals of different rigs, but WoW doesn't actually have that many animations, even for player characters. Animals typically have only a single walking animation (walk forward with the model rotating to match the direction of travel) with a possible extra one for backpedallying, and only a handful of attack animations on top of that. I'd be surprised if they had as much as a single powerset here. They do have different effects, but effects can be put on top of recycled animations much more easily.

That's what I meant - if you implement this model, you either invest into what amounts to half a game at this point, or you resign to the inability to do ANYTHING such as when you're using Walk. It's not what I'd like, but that's reality.

Reality is, Ben, that you are an android and

I like the idea of animal heads and mutations, so long as it's kept in superhero theme. By that I mean somewhat mythological looking creatures, allowing incarnations of Egyptian gods and goddesses as well as monsters of Greek mythos.

However, if I see one cartoon wolf head with spikey hair I'm so cancelled. The last thing this game needs is furries driving away people. I think even Cryptic knows that's a real possibily, and the major reason why they've drug their heels for so long on this rather obvious expansion to the game.

Wrong company. Paragon Studios now.

And Cryptic has lots of furries in their game.

And yet we have hairstyles that rival even the infamous dragonball Z, we have everything you need to be a catgirl or a playboy bunny..... yeah I think not.

The first part I agree with though. Anubis heads and such would be fun.
