Grenadier Assault & Control

I had a random thought about Doms and the lack of "natural" powersets for them but rather than just take AR or DP and make a controll-y version why not make use of the Grenade Launcher weapon type we see a few enemies use and employ an all Grenade powerset pair. It would be new enough to be its own set but recognizable enough and use existent animations to be easily implemented

Grenadier Assualt
Tier 1) Slug (Single Target. Moderate Dmg Smash, Knockdown) Sorta like the AR power but just a slug launched into a person from the grenade launcher.
Tier 2) Pummel (Single Target. Moderate Dmg Smash, Disorient) Ya hit em with the launcher in the head.
Tier 3) Fragmentation Grenade (AoE. Moderate Dmg Smash/Lethal, Knockdown) The Standard Grenade power like in AR.
Tier 4) Photon Grenade (AoE. Moderate Dmg Energy/Smash, -to hit) Like the one Robotics MM's get.
Tier 5) Poison Gas Grenade (AoE. Heavy DoT Toxic) Like the venom grenade without hte debuff.
Tier 6) Shrapnel Grenade (AoE. Minor Dmg Lethal/Smash, DoT Lethal) A Frag grenade built to launch shrapnel at high velocity and inflict lasting wounds.
Tier 7) Incendiary Grenade (Location AoE. Heavy DoT Fire) A grenade that creates a Burn patch.
Tier 8) Concussion Grenade (AoE. Heavy Dmg Smashing/Energy) A sonic Burst Grenade.
Tier 9) Acid Grenade (AoE. Minor DoT Toxic, -Def, -Res) Like the Trick Arrow power but with a grenade.

Grenadier Control
Tier 1) Beanbag (Single Target Stun, Minor Dmg Smash) Just like the AR power.
Tier 2) EMP Grenade (Single Target Hold Minor Dmg Energy) Much like the Longbow Spec Ops power but with a little damage.
Tier 3) Wide-Area Web Grenade (AoE Immobilize) Exactly like the Wolf Spider SoA version.
Tier 4) Smoke Grenade (AoE -to hit -Perception) Much like the widow version or the Devices power.
Tier 5) Repulsion Grenade (AoE Knockback, Minor Dmg Smash) A grenade that upon impact releases a blast of force. Like Repulsion Bomb from force felds.
Tier 6) Tear Gas Grenade (AoE Hold [Choke]) Just liek the Longbow mech, Vanguard heavy has.
Tier 7) Glue Grenade (Location AoE, -Spd -Rech -Fly -Jump) The SWAT equalizer power.
Tier 8) Stun(Or flash bang) Grenade (AoE Disorient, Minor Dmg Smash) Much like the Mercenaries version except no debuff.
Tier 9) Auto Turret (Summon Turret: Moderate Dmg Lethal) Just like the Devices power.

Thoughts? Gripes? Am I a moron?

You might want to look at the general format for Dominator Assault Sets. You have way too many AoE attacks in there. They are generally limited to 1 PBAoE and one ranged cone. Earth Assault has a TAoE, but it is short range and on a long recharge. This set might be able to swap the PBAoE with a TAoE and be light on melee (such as Fire Assault is), but you aren't going to have 6 targeted area of effect damage attacks.

I love the idea, but that whole balance thing is an issue.

I would also like to see Gatling gun Assault.

You really, really need to look over the other Control/Assault sets to see what kind of abilities they use in order to put ones of a similar style in similar places.

Also, you trying to steal my Munitions Control/Assault idea?

Actully I had a few posts back on the old forums 2years ago very similar to both your Idea's we tossed around the names "Munitions" and "Ordnance"

As i said about Ben's set, if they do something like this sign me up!!!

Outside that I was mostly putting this up out of boredom and the simple fact I want a non-elemental Dominator set. Plus wielding that awesomely huge Grenade Launcher the SWAT have would make me squee like a schoolgirl.

I'm aware balance would be an issue but as I see it sure there would be a TON of AoE but the overall Dmg would honestly be lacking compared to any set with a few good Melee powers. Sure you could mow through a mob of minions like no tomorrow but a Boss or AV would be a serious issue. Especially for endurance bars. I can almost hear them weeping at just th thought of how much these AoE's would cost.

Given that Dominators are explicitly limited in their AoE potential so as not to step into Blaster territory, game design would trump reality.

Your best bet would be to do something unique, like give the set one Cone, one Targeted AoE, and a third Targeted AoE with a 5' radius and a 3 target cap-- taking a page from Piercing Rounds here. Even that would be pushing the envelope because you are replacing a 10 target PBAoE with a 16 target TAoE. Dominator Assault sets are intentionally limited in their AoE potential, which why the APPs and PPPs provide TAoEs to fill this gap.
