Wait, what's the actual problem? That double-clicks don't register? If that's the case, go to Start->Control Panel->Mouse and check your double-click settings. Maybe it's set really low, making it necessary to click very fast for the double-click to register.
Yeah, a little more info is required... you didn't really tell us what the problem was 
You gave no explanation in the actual post, and your title suggest that your problem is your mouse double clicking. Unless you provide some more information, I'm going to suggest you have your mouse neutered. It might stop double-clicking when they no longer care about mating.

Hmm. Sounds like some sort of accessibility assistance, but I can't find anything relating to it in the Accessibility options.
Can you say what kind of mouse it is? My Razer Copperhead had the same issue and it turns out it needed a firmware update.
check firmware updates? had a DC issue before.
check settings in game and out of game for the mouse.
Check your mouse settings, its under control panel, see if ClickLock is turned on. If it is, turn it off.

Think I might treat myself to a new mouse see if that makes a difference have followed the advice above with no change,and as I have sold IO,s that I wanted because of this problem think it might be a good idea ,thanks for all your help.

I have the opposite problem, typically with mission/contact dialogs. Click on "Yes, I'll help you" or something, and nothing. Click it again, and THEN it moves on to the next thing.
And, of course, the age-old problem of exit doors, say from the Hospital. It's gotten so I just superclick the mouse 6 or 7 times to make sure I get out...
