GR Complete and GvE editions question

Hi everyone

My computer just had issues and is in the process of receiving a memory wipe and reinstall.

The version of City on it is the GvE edition which I purchased online. I figured now would be a good time to get GR, so was thinking to pick up a hard copy of the Complete Collection.

I just like having a hard copy around, so that game reinstallation is easier (y'never know when computers die) and takes less time. However, I would also like to keep the GvE stuff - jump pack, VIP pass, costume pieces.

My question is: should I reinstall the game (GvE) first, which will take about 9 hours, then load the GR expansion from the disks? Or just just load the Complete Collection altogether, but if I do that, can I get access to the GvE stuff without the 9 hour wait?

Just trying to figure what which is the fastest way I can get back to playing AND having all the goodies from both GvE and Complete Collection

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm pretty sure you can go with using the hard copy you have for GR. The bonuses you got from GvE should be tied to your account, so you should still have them whether you reinstall from GvE disk, GR disk, or from downloading the client from the CoH web site.

Edit: Just be sure you update your account with the GR product key; don't want to miss out on the Complete goodies.

Load it with the GR disk. Then all you will need to wait for it s a couple of updates.

Tech Support Rule #1 - They will lie to you. Usually intentionally.

Bolded for emphasis.

On your NC Account page, when you input the GR:CE, make sure you have chosen to upgrade your existing account. (Been too long since I bought a physical copy of the game to use a code from - do you go into the existing account and select an upgrade button there, or is it like buying the electronic ones where you select the account to add it to after you input it?)

The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

You should be able do it both ways.

When you input a code, it gives you the option of different things you can do with the code:
-Make a new game account
-Upgrade game account 1
-Upgrade game account 2

So, load the game from the disk, GvE goodies are attached to my account and make sure to upgrade account with serial number from Complete Edition disk...

Sounds easy enough, thanks for the replies everyone

Just apply the code to your account to get the benefits. If you already have CoH installed, don't load the disc at all. Everybody plays the same version of CoH, so as long as you already downloaded the most recent patch, the disc isn't going to do anything for you.

Actually, I don't even have the computer back from the store yet, but when it gets here, it'll be wiped clean. Since I have to reinstall the base City game anyway, might as well do it from the GR Complete Collection disk.

Still, good to know that GvE goodies are attached to the account - I'm assuming same thing applies to booster pack goodies.

Now if only that computer gets here soonish...

Indeed. Every "permission" is decided by your account status internally. The actual program we all use is the same, no matter if we have every pack, or even just the trial.

All the goodies are account based; when you apply a serial code to your account that unlocks the goodies no matter what computer you're using.

And as you heard there's no difference at all in the client software; everyone has the exact same client... the goodies you apply to your account simply unlock different things.

Reinstalling the GR disk will cut down on the updating you'll have to do though... depending on your internet connection that could be a minor or major issue.

(Well, technically there's two clients, one for the PC and one for Mac)

Ok. You got me there, but then you have to consider the EU version too.. Technically the client itself still uses exactly the same files, but the main executable points to different servers... so I guess you can say there is really 4 different clients overall.
