is there any way to get the ambitious badge without having fly or SJ? appears it is on top of the building and I am not finding any doors that might let you in to an elevator and no ledges to use to scale up the outside

thanks

Various teleports (Recall Friend, Teleport, Team TP, Assemble the Team), the Good vs Evil Jump Jet, the Flight pack temp power. There is another badge at the top of the tower in Neutropolis that also needs vertical movement.

yeah, found that one also - believe it's Mohr Power. oh well, guess I will use my alternate build and take fly. really wish they would quit doing that, should not have to rely on certain travel powers to get to badges.

Not the one I was thinking of but that works too. For the record I was talking about Eyes to the Future. You can't get to it without a lot of vertical movement.

no problem with exploring places, my comment was that it should be possible to explore places without having to take certain travel powers. there should be a way to get to the locations different ways.

There were several ways listed earlier in this thread.

Look on the bright side. At least it's not an Exploration badge that is only obtainable by making specific choices to get a specific mission map, and then having to open a secret door to get to the badge. lol

Oh, like Keen Sighted?

How about Ace?

How about Old Fashioned?

Ooh, I know: Master of Science?

Or Top Dog?

Or Triumphant?

Or Weapon of Mass Destruction?

There are plenty of other examples. Suffice it to say that if you want to get the explore badges, you need some sort of vertical movement to get all of them.

Any raid I've been to has started from the south side.

And that one generally needs a full team to help take the shields down. The amount of characters that could solo the Pylons is very small.

All you need for the one on top of Neuron's tower is ninja run or the jump pack. There are two doors that leads most of the way up the tower. After entering the second door it is a short jump to the top of the building. Quite a few of the buildings in Praetoria have these roof access doors. It is possible to get the one on top of the building in Nova the same way.

What badge is this and where do I get one ?!

Jump pack yes. Ninja run no as it doesn't jump up high enough, at least without help. Besides the jump pack is essentially Super Leap and the original poster didn't like that suggestion.

and I can get to all of those on hero or villain side solo, without having to pay $$ for add ons or taking specific travel powers. not possible to do that, at least that I am aware of, in praetoria. therefore, my comment that I (personally, in my opinion) believe that should be taken into account when placing exploration badges in new content.

You can buy on the market and craft JetPack recipe (or whatever it is called).

The doors up there are invisible now? Or is there not one to the very top? If not, I somehow got it with NR...

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Apparently it wasn't.

I'm going to say that you are shovelling something there. You may very well get most of those solo, but 99.5% of the characters can't get Unabashed solo. Most characters can't solo the Pylons to get the shields down, then walk to the center of the Rikti Mothership bowl through the waiting Rikti horde.

As to the others, without vertical movement, you're hosed. This is especially apparent with Master of Science, Top Dog, Triumphant, Ace, or Weapons of Mass Destruction. There is absolutely no way up without some kind of vertical movement power like Teleport, Super Jump, or Flight/hover (including any related temp powers).

If you want a vertical movement power without taking a power choice, get a temp flight pack recipe & send it and the components to yourself and use that flight.

The eyes to the future location:

....................^^^^^^^ The last part that is accessible via doors.

Ninja Run can't jump the 4-5 stories of the last leg of the journey. There isn't a door to the very top of the building.

Actually, that was my first inspiration, but the closest thing we have to the exaggerated version I describe above is more like Jail Bird, for visiting the specific Jail Cell on the Villain Tutorial map.

I've seen it done both ways, depending on which server I am on at the time or who is hosting it.

My point is that it's possible to walk to it if you have to by going to the other side. A vertical power isn't necessary.

You can get Faultless Mystic with Ninja Run (or probably even just hurdle), and you can climb scaffolding and jump to get Weapon of Mass Destruction. Another example (mostly) is Meltdown on top of the reactor dome in Terra Volta... although before the jump pack or raptor pack existed, I did manage to get it on a super speeder by making a one in a million leap and barely hitting a spot where I didn't just slide back off.

But yeah... it seems intentional that there are a few badges that aren't accessible without any vertical movement... but it's not an issue, as any character can get vertical movement now, even without boosters. I remember needed help from friends with recall friend to get badges way back when.

If you have Hurdle / Combat Jumping, you can get to a whole lot of exploration badges that would appear out of reach. If you just try jumping up the obstacle, you can get to places like Keen Sighted, most of the ones on the tops of statues, and the tops of almost any building with windows or scaffolds. Many other badges, like Master of the Airwaves at the top of the Grandville tower, can be reached without any travel enhancements at all - they just require some more creative / cumbersome routes to get there.

In any case, anyone out of Praetoria can go to Firebase Zulu or Grandville to buy a 2 hour jetpack for 10k inf, and anyone even within Praetoria can buy and craft a jetpack temp power recipe (or buy/find one on another character and email it to your alt).

Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.

But unless you can solo Pylons, a team is needed. I think I can count on one hand the amount of players (like Bill Z Bubba) that have claimed doing that. Even then that is only on a few of their characters.

Regardless if a team is needed (or even just sliding in behind "somebody else's raid"), I don't see what that has to do with the discussion about needing vertical travel powers.

<shrug> Like you said, I've more than enough other examples to debunk the myth that all badges are accessible without some type of vertical movement.

...

There's a LOT more players than a handful that can solo pylons, SG. See 'em here.

Be well, people of CoH.
