My new toon idea!

So I made a toon with the idea that I want him to be based off the 2 male characters from the movies Jumper and Push.
So I chose Gravity/Force Field and so far also have teleport and teleport foe.
I'm only level 15 so far, but gotta say he is pretty fun!
In keeping with the theme I'm going to be very picky in my choices. I'm going for more "fun" playability rather then "best controller" theme.
I'm planning to AVOID the following powers in trying to keep with the themes.
Gravity:
dimension shift (just worthless also i think), singularity (we'll see about this one when I get there)
FF:
Deflection shield, insulation field, detention field, repulsion bomb, repulsion field, force bubble.

I'm mainly wanting to skip a lot of the FF powers becuz I'm one of the people that gets annoyed at the bubble appearance. Let me know what you guys think!
My plan is to fill alot of my choices with fitness, fighting, leadership, and maybe medicine powers.
Sound fun or have I gone crazy and is he gonna be totally worthless hahaha!

If you can find fun in theme alone, more power to you. Unfortunately, I can't do that. A large part of my fun comes from the mechanics of the game and I create concepts around what the game gives me. That's why I'd suggest looking for something that fits your concept a bit better.

On the grav side you're only really missing out by skipping Singularity. DS is skipped pretty regularly. Now, on the forcefield side... it seems like you'll only be left with Dispersion Bubble, PFF, and Force Bolt. I'd probably just roll a /nrg Dom in that case. You get some mez protection and the knockback seems like it would suit your concept. The /nrg assault powers are a little flashy though you may be able to tone them down.

Have to agree, an /energy Dom would definitely be more your speed. You're skipping most of the powers that make Force Field at all useful. If all you want is knockback for a concept, the Dom secondary will give you that and still allow you to be efficient.

I will third the opinion that you will enjoy a Gravity/Energy Dominator a lot more. It's also got a lot of tools to make Gravity not quuuite so frustrating (but still not as strong, IMO, as the other control sets).

Oh look, another /ff controller to avoid teaming with. I do not get picking a set and then not taking the powers that define the set. At all.

OP, you do know if you take dispersion bubble you'll not only have a BIG bubble around you, but you'll also have a little one around you? So if bubbling other people looks annoying to you, I'd assume that one actually around you would be doubly annoying. I"m not really sure how teammate bubbles is annoying (appearance wise) to the caster.

Another suggestion that might keep you from getting kicked from teams; Prepare a macro (or series, if necessary) explaining that you are playing a concept character, so therefore you do not have the key powers that most folks would expect a Grav/FF to have.

If someone invites you to a team expecting bubbles, you might end up getting kicked.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Thx for the input everyone!
I never thought of dominators becuz I'm inexperienced on the red side.
But since my toon is only lvl 15 so far, I'll check out grav/nrg!
Thx everyone!

Oh I dunno, with 4 ST attacks Grav is becoming one of my favorites, and if you slot it correctly Dimension Shift can be useful. Toss in Singy and Worm and it's not a bad set, besides tossing a car or a toilet or a forklift at someone, who could want more?

Add to that the free Stamina we're getting soon and it's even better. Too bad TA doesn't fit your concept, with Singy up keeping things at range and OSA, you'll solo just fine.

I tend to think that if you are skipping the core powers due to a concept then maybe there is a better set out there that fits the concept and doesn't leave you gimp. I'm not saying it's 100% true, but I tend to find the right powerset to fit whatever I'm going for and picking the need powers from the powerset. I've seen some odd stuff on Virtue, but to be honest it's becoming my default server to play on.
