Dual Instances of COH on one computer?

Hey all:

Finally upgraded memory and video card and was wondering the process for running 2 instances of COH on one computer.

I have 2 accounts and have been doing some dual boxing (2nd computer is very slow, load time, laggy) but I was hoping to run it all on one.

Assume I'm a computer dolt (I am) so speak slowly and thanks in advance.

The process is simple. Start the updater. Tell it to load the game. Once the game starts loading, restart the updater. Continue.

I would also recommend the -maxinactivefps 5 flag at the end of your shortcut's target (outside the quotation marks, with one space before the "-", just like the -test flag) - which will make the background instance not hog as many resources.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.

I'll type slowly so you can understand, just in case you don't read very fast

It is easiest to dual box in windowed mode. When in game hit menu, go down to options, click on graphics tab. Then change resolution to windowed. If you don't do this then you will have to hit the window/start key each time you want to change screens.

Then exit the game for the settings to take.

Next boot up your first instance of the game to the sign in menu.

Then boot up the 2nd instance of the game. If you want to switch between them you can just click on the tab at the bottom or if you have a large enough screen and the memory to support it, you can put both instances on the screen at once and just click between which one you want to use.

Since I'm not exactly a computer genius myself, it's my UNDERSTANDING that simply typing "/maxinactivefps 5" into the chat box in each instance will do the same thing, which is making the inactive instance not draw as many frames per second and making your computer run more smoothly.

Since I've been able to dual box for a while, but haven't done much of it 'till recently, I've been doing it that way. I'd been unaware that I could just add that "flag" at the end of my COH shortcut until I saw this thread -- thanks, Rajani Isa!!

I've also been running in full-screen mode, and just using "alt+tab" to switch between the two accounts. Don't know what that's doing to my performance, but since I prefer full-screen and hate dragging my trays around when I stop dual-boxing, it's working for me so far.

Thanks all!

I'll give it a whirl later today.

For some PCs (Mostly with ATI cards like mine) minimizing or leaving CoH to view another open application in fullscreen will cause it to crash, thats why they mentioned windowed mode most likely.

I use windowed mode just playing 1 account at a time, with the trays lined up properly, but windowed mode maximized, not a sizable little box .
