SS/SD brutes and SD/SS tank comparison

hey all, i have a lvl 50 ss/sd brute and i like it but the survivability is ehh. my defense gets debuffed really easily it seems and when i do get hit, it hurts bad. looking at the tank numbers of the same build i thought to myself wow. soft capping all postionals is wayyy easier and the resistance is alot better too. i love the damage output of my brute though so im wondering, does anyone have a tank and brute and has compared them? is the damage output on a brute way higher or is the damage on a tank worth rerolling my toon for? these are the 2 builds i made. the brute one is my current brutes build and the tank one is what i might make if i do reroll as a tank.

any input you can offer is greatly appreciated. only think i wont do is slot purples :b

RED CAP DAGGERS: if you want them red side on infinity, send a pm i have the mission to get them for dual blades.

Without going into your builds ( I am no mids master) I can tell you that SD/SS rocks almost as much as ss/sd when it comes to damage. It will be sturdier thanks to the improved resistance and higher HP totals now. As you mentioned, it is easier to softcap. Defense debuffs will still suck, but it seems like you will enjoy sd/ss alot. You are taking one of the best and most damaging primaries and secondaries and rolling them together- sounds like a winning and fun combination to me.

Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

"You're right...I forgot...being constantly at or the near the damage cap is a big turn off. Definitely not worth it."

Oh- I would not reroll personally. Why not keep both?

Did not look at the builds either but just tossing out my 2 inf.

I actually like SD/SS better only because you can get to the soft cap with minimal effort. After that you can focus on recharge with purples to get footstomp, shield rush and any other aoes up faster instead of having to pick powers and use slots just to get to the soft cap. Once I finish my current project SD/SS tanker will be next. I plan to go to villian side to pick up the mu patron powers for elec fences and ball lightning.

While a brute will do more damage with each hit, you will be able to get the tanker up to have the heavy attacks cycle faster. One of the few times I would go with a tank over a brute, but hey thats just me.

good points both of you. i agree with the recharge ill be able to work in from the easy soft capping, ill be doing alot of damage but i doubt as much as a brutes. think ill just stick to the brute though. seeing as the defense debuff problem was my main focus, theres nothing i can do to aviod that.

I'd personally go with the Brute, but I'm biased because I lol @ tanks.

Basically Brute does more damage, but is harder to softcap, has less hp and resist. The way you deal with -def as Shield is you pay a ton of cash and slot Membrane HOs into Active Defense, and mabye fit in Grant Cover. If you do both of those, and have enough recharge to double stack AD, you should be near the cap on Def debuff resist.

Yes the brute can be better overall. It just takes more work and Im lazy.

SD/SS Tank has the advantage that it is so easy to softcap that you can fit a lot of usefull Sets instead of +Defs, +Recharge Sets for Example. With that you can doublestack Active Defense. AD+GC+slotted BA gives you nearly 90% Defdebuff Resist. It's also possible to reach Permahasten + Perma Doublerage + Softcap. SC will recharge very quickly.

But it will still have less Damage than a SS/SD Brute.

The Bruteversion is made for dealing Tons of Damage, so i would take advantage of it and go for High Recharge. With SC+Footstomp you can kill most of a Spawn so quickly that you don't have to survive as long as a tanker. With doublestacked AD and maybe Grant Cover + some purple Inspis you should be on the safe Side in most Situations. So if i were you i would not aim for softcapping all 3 Positions on a Brute(Melee is easily softcapped wit Obliterations) except if you want to use him mainly as tank.

good points, would u say go for soft capping just melee or, melee and what else? usually people say melee and range but i was thinking, if youre tanking and u go behind a corner when u will, you wont have to worry about range as much as aoe. never could decide which one other than melee would be more important to soft cap.

Melee- Most important, yes.
Ranged- A ranged Attack is still marked as ranged Attack even if it is used close to the Target. If all NPCs are close to you they will use their standardattacks for Example xxx-marksman will run around the Corner and will still use his ranged Attacks. Many of the Debuffs are marked as ranged Attacks too.
AOE? Sure, there are specific Enemies and groups that use nasty AOEs, but overall there are much less AOEs than Ranged Attacks in the game.

My Experiences:
Melee****-try to softcap it or get close to, but don't sacrifice your offense too much for it
Ranged***-try to softcap it or get close to, but don't sacrifice your offense too much for it
AOE*-live with that what you get through your Powers, only use IO-Sets for it if there are no other and better Sets instead

ya this is what i figured too. melee and range are not bad to soft cap but squeezing aoe soft capping is making my build too tight and i have to sacrifice stuff i dont want to. thanks for the info might be able to fit heal self in.
