I lol at people that think they need a stone brute/tank for anything. Or that you can't do something because you don't have a tank/brute to hold aggro.
No kidding and then if you happen to end up on a team that is saying that and you say "we don't need a tank/brute" and then I just laugh to myself and move on.

Interesting thread. Its awesome think about all the changes over the years I have experienced (loved and hated) the ones I mostly hated was the PvP changes. Keep in mind this is all my own (PoV)

PvP was the reason that kept me in the game. I felt like I did everything maybe around the time of i6/i7. Pretty much had my hand in everything. Ive been hear since Beta for CoH (on a different account) but I was there. Ive been on the forum since the day CoH the concept was released and there was no game. Ive seen it all, but PvP by far has been a disappointment. (All Out Base Raids or 8v8 matches are my thing)

Hard Rider,

PvPers (way back when they were around) had an attitude about their realm that pretty much went, "If you cant handle it, get out!" and that was pretty much it because there was really no need for those that could not keep up to be around. Those 'useless' people were just slowing down the rest. Sure it took me hours upon days to actually because an experienced practitioner of PvP, but everyone has got to start somewhere.

There really was no benefit to PvP, just bragging rights. So the normal player that has no knowledge of:

PvP groups, the lingo, all the powers as a whole, what ventrilo/team speak are, base raids, or anything else associated they are not going to be part of it, they just dont have the patience or the time because they got to IOs/Infamy,Influence/XP and all those other goodies that give you something for your time.

In the past it was really a game of skill and playing with the numbers to get characters the way you want them. Sure some characters were worthless, but that happens in any game. They had to take control somehow.

The Devs sorta just sat on it until I dont know, (this is a wild example) maybe they tried to PvP and were getting beat at their own game, who knows. There was no Universality. Not every individual, random, regular a** player with a level 40ish character, could just jump into Recluses Victory from just leaving Pocket D after an RPing session (and I am not dissing RP just proving a point) run in and KS 5 times, take over 3 pylons with a few friends (or even a pick up group), not die, get a few solo take downs and be able to snack on chips and soda. That just doesnt happen. So I think they just simplified. So I understand.

I tend to PvP in spurts myself. Issue 13 didn't do PvP any favors to begin with, but to fair pre-issue 13 wasn't great either (just less bad)

-Defense - we need to come with some sort of balance. that neither marginalizes it, or is too uber. I'm pretty sure data mining will support that it does underperform in PvP. The situation now is basically it has been balanced against care bears and not pvper's

-At its base this game wasn't designed with PvP in mind, what PvP 1.0 brought out, was a lot of the issues that existed in PvE, but more so. And some of their solutions in PvP 2.0 aren't great.

-lets be honest here, did we really need Hibernate proliferated, or should Epic Fossilize outdamage many if not all blaster attacks, and other crazy stuff (looks at KM's tier 9's attack).

When a FF defender's PvP Defense goes from 185% to 17% in one issue, yeah there is a problem.

When everyone picks up the concealment pool for PS, not caring they have to waste two power choices to get it, yeah there is a problem.

When players spend more time running from a fight then actually fighting, ......

and after all is said and done, and you have 400 Rep. and all the shiney PvP badges then what do you do?

Rep can't be turned in for merits like everything thing else in the game, PvP IOs aren't guaranteed.

There are no incentives to keep PvPing besides those who enjoy griefing others b/c they have little self-worth.

uuhh some people want to pvp because they enjoy it, but it can be hard to when zones and the arena have been close to cleaned out by an update that change alot of things that did not need to be changed in ways they did not need to be changed

I agree.

My heart sank when I went into PVP with my ninjitsu stalker and his defense was shot to ****.

I think it's undocumented because they don't know all the rules. It's one large buggy ***********.

On Liberty PVP is dead and has remained dead. The only chance of getting any action is to hunt pvp IO farmers or try to get folks when they're in zones getting badges.

I hate the different rules. They suck ****.

My main server is Liberty and before I13 I would love using my Necro/Poison mastermind in Recluses Victory. I was not an expert at PvP but there was almost always people to fight. I would not always win but it was fun. With the new PvP I never find anyone there anymore. Now most people who PvP have moved to one server and that leaves the other servers with very little PvP.

Edit:

For me the single worst part about PvP is the lack of documentation! People spend ages learning the PvE mechanics so I can work out how to softcap my builds, or if it is worth getting that last bit of +res, attack chains etc. Considering they don't really want people knowing too much I think it was ok not to give this out, but when you get people like myself who know the PvE game pretty well scratching our heads why we are being flung about RV despite having mag 12 kb protection we have to come here for information.

Nowhere in game am I told that I need mag 41 KB protection for PvP, nowhere does the game mention DR or how much it effects you, nowhere does it talk about the animation time thing. I think having to come to the forums to find out basic information is stupid.

yeah, i hate the lack of documentation also, but at least we can view Combat Statistics now...hey, the dev's did something right!

See post above and stickies above. The problem seems to be that no one is trying to fix PvP since it has been working poorly since issue 13 a long time ago. I would prefer the devs just revert back the prior version as IO's do help to tip the balance against the power set choices somewhat (notice I said somewhat).

That being said, it is broken so badly, I can routinely take characters without travel powers into the zones and collect badges, do mishes and have no fear of getting ganked. Other than RV and the occasional Sirens match ups, don't see much activity, even on Freedom. I remember even Bloody Bay and Warburg used to be active but now they are zones where people visit prior to collect Shivans and nukes. I miss the day when I would be working on a Shivan to get ganked my a stalker at the last second...
