I started one and so far i like it gettin hit alot but i expected to get hit alot til later on.

But my question is will it be worth keep in the long run? I mean i worked out a build in mids (can't post it atm at my gfs dads house and on my phone posting this) but if i recall at lvl 50 and IO'd i would have around 41.4% defense to smashing and lethal 50-something % to energy and i think 45% to fire cold and negative

Are those good defense numbers? Do i need to get to 45% on all of them? Anything?

You don't need 45% to all, and that is very hard to do. All you need is to find enemies that do damage types you do well against.

Energy Aura has very little positional defense thugh. Positional defense sets like Shield Defense and Super Reflexes are much easier to soft-cap(45% defense) to everything an enemy can throw at you.

I actually just posted a thread asking for opinions on my shield brute who happens to be soft-capped to all positions with very respectable resistance and regen too.

I will admit that I like the look of energy aura though which is why I also have a level 32 kinetic/energy aura brute. :P

It's just feels slightly squishy at times so it's not my favorite. It did better than willpower through Praetoria though, even prior to the syndicate nerf.

Edit:
I haven't actually put my shield build into practice yet. I just made the build as a guideline for my leveling. I'll definitely work towards it, but it will be quite a while.

If you're ok on inf, we usually aim for 45% defense against s/l at least. For EA, it's easy to get there for energy defense, and it is not difficult to soft cap f/c defense either. So, I would aim for 45% defense for s/l/e/f/c. Actually, some people choose to have even higher defense because of defense debuff. The negative energy defense is a little low for EA. It would take some effort to soft cap if you choose to do it.

WM/EA can be good. There are probably better secondaries out there to pair with WM though, but at least you will be STRONG and PRETTY.

I have a WM/EA at 50 and do enjoy playing him. I have 45% defense to s/l/f/c/e, 35% to neg, and 23% to Psi. Before he was soft capped he was a challenge to play and could be very frustrating. All I can say is if you are having fun playing him then continue.
