Rare tanker issue

Hi, My name is HeavyTank and i suffer from a rare condition "Tanker-Lock"

The reason for this is playing my high level tanks, i can take it all alot, then when i roll new ones and play at the lower levels i sometimes forget i can't take as much punishment and then i get a bit over ambitious with grabbing aggro, most times unfortunately leading my team to wipe, takes a few minutes before i remember "low level, not durable enough yet"

so in closing this happen to anyone else?

I have "Tank loc" all the time when I'm playing, even on my lowbie tanks. Mind you I have the same problem when I'm playing my controllers, blasters, scrappers, defenders etc. (Although I've been better about it on my Praetorian DP blaster.)

My mantra quite often is "note to self, I'm not a tank today."

But then again, debt is just another way to get a badge.

I do this, but it's not so much being used to having a tough tanker. My first high level character was a scrapper. Once I got her IOed out, I played by running ahead of everyone and leaping into the middle of the largest group of enemies I could find.

I now play all other characters, from tanks and brutes to dominators and defenders, in the same way (with a few tweaks - for tanks, I'll taunt stuff that isn't next to me and so on). I usually have at least two debt badges by 20.

Rare? PFFT!

Scrank-lock isn't rare. In fact, it's distressingly common for people who regularly play high-level melee-oriented builds..

Remember, power corrupts. Absolute power...is actually kinda neat!

I have a bind on my Fire/Fire/Fire blaster that has me doing a Simpsons-esque blackboard gag "I am a blaster, not a tanker. I am a blaster, not a tanker."

Yep. Much like every one else. I play other classes simular to a melee class.

my fire/storm/earth troller is what turned me on to tankers. It was great to be on a toon that ddn't die every time I turned around. My troller is much stronger now, and can tank some AV's better than some of my tanks...that is niether here nor there...

I think scrapper-lock and tank-lock is a good thing. If you don't ever push your build your skill never grows. If you don't face plant, you don't learn how to capitalize on that situation in the future.

I am one of those players that have to have a concept, back story, and reasons to play the classes. Else they get deleted. So I take great pride in what my toons can do. Also it saddens me when my toons fail.

My bs/sd/bod is great for this, flury flechette made me a build that is out standing, not only end game, but also as a exzemption build.

There are times I get over confident in her ability, and get a beat down. Some one mentioned humility. A defeat is a great way to humble a sole, and open eyes. I enjoy the challenge of over comming a fresh defeat.

Oh absolutely! Even with all toggles going, low level Tankers are in trouble in this game. They can grab aggro through Gauntlet (like it or not), but they can't survive it that well until SOs come into play. I have a new tank running through Praetoria now, which is even less kind with its ambushes and chain aggro rooms of doom.

oh-my-god.

Pre-nerfed praet, I got my tanker to level 12 before I had a team, thinking "Oh this will be fine." my first tanker (I pretty much only play tanks and occassionally brutes) hit the "herding" macro and rounded up half the room, and faceplanted about 10 yards short of the herd point.

Suffice to say, I've never attempted a herd in praet since.

Old game mechanic. Kiting. If you can't immediately kill a group of enemies, kill a few and GET THE HELL OUTTA DODGE until you heal/recover end. Take a few more. Rinse and repeat until done.

That's how I got through the TNN mission. I ran my tank's little hiney off! But I didn't die!

I tend to run in no matter what, even with my Blasters (though it usually helps to open up all out sometimes with a Blaster). It's a bad habit. Usually I'll adjust after a little bit when playing a new character (after coming from one of my higher tanks).

Doesn't help when I team with people that are too hesitant, either... I don't like holding back!

Off-topic but on that mission I just used CJ to jump onto one of the window frames to rest.

One tip I'm gunna say for low-level tanking/tankerlock, is stun grenades, when you're in trouble throw one of those down and run and hide.

The few seconds mobs are stunned for can help get you some of that regen or maybe recharge your self-heal.

Also throwing a Hand Grenade down after the Stun can knock **** back when soloing as another panic-button.

One thing that surprises me about Praetoria is that nobody seems to be making many tankers there, but that having a tanker on the team makes the content there much more team friendly. It's still difficult enough that herding doesn't work, and Seers are pretty miserable, but my electric/kin tanker makes the place a lot more team-friendly.

This is exactly why the first thing I did was roll a tanker, although because I then decided to do the story arcs I was rejecting a team request several times every hour, so I made two tanks, one for teaming and one for solo, and lets just say he's been pretty popular.

but the week before GR went Live, I expected every tanker fan to roll a brute, and everyone else to roll Elec controllers/doms, MMs or Kin scrappers/stalkers, I wasn't exactly proven wrong on that prediction.

And it definately made teams work better, IMO not only does a tank hold aggro and take the beating for the whole team, but they also set the pace, and if the group is a rag-tag PuG as a tanker, I generally take the role of leadership if the one with the star isn't doing so.

As a tanker, running into each mob, not stopping for anything once you've outleveled the end-issue range, you're setting the pace of the team, and 90% of the time if nobody's said AFK people will follow you.

I was on a Claws/SR brute for that one. What ended up happening was, one Destroyer would run to me and die and the other 4 would cap out at the northwest corner of the map where they spawned. So after about 10 destroyers, there were 90 clustered together. I popped 3 purples and 7 reds, ran over and threw the Heavy Grenade temp power in and splatted them all (and killed off the rest with Spin).

On the subject of Tankerlock, yeah. I made an Elec/Kin tanker for going redside and I keep using the mentality of my 42 Shield/Axe. I will also add that I keep dying. xD

I'm running around on an Inv/SS tank in Praetoria. Outside of the TNN mission, I haven't found anything I can't handle yet with a little careful pacing. OTOH, the TNN mission is all ABOUT careful pacing, regardless of AT.

Bah, that's not kiting. Kiting is running around with an entire zone's worth of mobs following you while slowly dieing from your damage auras (guess what I used to play )
