Hello all, every since the BoTZ nerf I've been looking for ways to respec my blaster back to ranged soft cap defense. I'm looking for as much recharge, recovery, and regeneration as possible so if you see any ways to improve it please let me know!

Is my math off? It looks like you're sitting right at the cap with Hover and Weave running. How much ranged defense do you show in-game?

Santorican is at the ranged defence cap. But I'm thinking they may want to see how they can improve other parts of the build while maintaining the cap.

If not and it's just a confusion about cap numbers...

Well, the BoTZ nerf he mentions reduced the ranged defense bonus of the set. I know that it dropped my Arch/Nrg blaster down to about 42.5% ranged defense. Maybe the build shown is a proposed build instead of his current one? I assumed it was the current one.

Bingo! Yep its the build I am working on, my current build has 39% ranged defense . I am trying to get more of everything else except defense lol.

If it were me I'd save the +3 to all positions PVP IO for a toon that can benefit from all positions. Move that slot to Web Envelope and 6-slot Trap of The Hunter for +3 ranged def. Keeps you softcapped at range but saves the PVP IO for a diff toon.

I'm not sure of the total extent of the changes you'd have to make for this new build, so I'm just going to throw this idea out for consideration. You might want to hold off on any major changes or expensive purchases until we see how the incarnate system is going to shake out, unless you are absolutely dissatisfied with your blaster and must change it now. Capping defense for blasters can sometimes be a game of inches, and the incarnate slots have the potential to give us a mile.

Very true, but I'd like to play this character in some low level TFs before I20 comes out lol. So I'd like to probably publish this build soon.

This is my updated Archery/Energy build for I19. His endurance consumption is pretty high when I'm running tough and temp invul so usually I have to turn them off in long fights which I'd like to keep them up for that added layer of protection. I'd also like to increase his passive regeneration because it far too low.

I cheaped out your build for the poor folk. Of course your numbers are going to be better. But its doable for someone on a lower end budget like myself. The 5 slots can be replaced with Purple IOs eventually for those working towards that direction.

You need 10 hero merits to buy up the expensive IOs listed. 2 (3) for each LOTG +Recharge and 2 for Num +regen +recharge in Health and 2 for the Zephyr KB Protection.

Ideally a Range Cap Blaster with Aid Self would be nice.. Need to see if that type of build is possible..

From playing my AR Device which had big endurance issues.. I found that getting the Endurance Alpha changed everything around.

Also if you have the Vet reward for the Defense pet that is also something that will add another couple of points to your defenses. Being that its a range build and your hovering you shouldn't be in the way of melee PBAOE attacks which usually what end up destroying my defense drones on other toons. I notice when I'm out of the way and ranged it last a bit longer..

Was thinking Guassian is a bit expensive as well. At least some parts, so I can see a bit more then 10 Hero merits going into this build to save money..

Here is a Range Defense Cap build with Aid Self. I have to say something like this might not be so bad.. I sort of have a weaker version of this.. And when you don't have any more Green inspirations.. That Aid Self is great.. I know on my AR Device I am jockeying around when low on greens just trying to stay away from some mobs..

Which one would you prefer? Snap or Aim shot?


What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

I will always take both, it is infinitely useful to have both when mezzed. Both powers can almost be chained when mezzed.

Another thing I'd do (though I know it's not the point of your post), is to put another recharge reduction in Boost Range, and make it perma. Won't change any numbers anywhere, but it's truly amazing for one's survivability on large teams and TF's.
