And just to be helpful with some CoH commonly used terms, You're looking for a supergroup which is this game's equivalent to a guild in fantasy MMOs. Supergroups are segregated by villain or hero groups (if you're a villain you can't join a hero SG or if you're a hero you can't join a villain one). Although things get kinda fuzzy with going rogue out now. But my point ends up being that you need to specify your alignment (hero/vigilante or rogue/villain) when searching for a group.
Also, we refer to our servers as, well...servers. Shards is also used in-game. You don't generally hear the term "realm" around these parts often.
Welcome to Protector Demonkid. As Frost said Supergroups/Villaingroups are what we have in game. If you have a Mastermind I would imagine that you are a Villain or maybe a new Praetorian. As yet Praetorians are not able to join SGs or VGs.
yeah im playing as an Praetorians does the game not allow me to join a SG/VG if so do i need to play a hero/villian side
You can eventually join a SG/VG on your Praetorian, but you have to finish Praetoria first and officially become a hero or villain.

/chanjoin "N P C"
This will grant you access to the New Player Channel, whose sole purpose is to help out new players get into the game, or give pointers to returning players.
We also offer personal, one-on-one mentoring (via the Mentor Project) for those who would like to have a vet show them the ropes. This is valid cross-server and even in Europe now, with over 110 registered mentors, and was originally conceived on this very server.

As for the N P C channel, you can follow the link in my sig to learn more. There's a cool announcement coming Soon™ about the Mentor Project too, hopefully before the week is done.
To demonkid99: Blazing_Blue pointed out something that I forgot: Protector's activity channel is named Protector Vigilance and you can join it using a similar command:
/chanjoin "Protector Vigilance"
