Open Season: St John ((Big ***** warning inside))
The news reports follow soon, Missing parents, a school in flames and a robot attacking the suburbs, the robots words are in all the broad casts, but thankfully the footage is not shown on the news.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
Above it a tattered grizzly banner sways in the wind, blood red and bearing the coat of arms of Elizabeth Bathory, a declaration of war. The machine glares at the world, through a blood streaked metal skull, the eye pits of which glow with infernal hatred, from this hate-filled head a vast voice booms out. PIOUS ADDO HIM NOBIS! Pious IS VADUM INTEREO!
|
Pious rose to his feet with a sigh then exited his room. He made his way to the nearest teleport circles and charmed it to transport him as close to Saint John's as magically possible. With a clear and ready mind, he stepped into the light and disappeared.
In the suburbs near Saint Johns, the figure of Reverend Pious Hunter appeared in the path of the giant robot. His white shirt resplendent in the afternoon light and his black tie fluttering in the heavy winds. News cameras clicked alive, circling the action from afar and looking for a perfect angle to capture the drama.
"Nighthunters stand by" thought Pious, sending a telepathic message to his friends via the Nighthunter's psychic amulet. "There's been an incident at Saint John's Catholic School. Turn on your television sets and see for yourself. I'm at the scene right now and will try to learn the motives of the assailant, then attempt peace talks. For the moment, please just stand by. Violence might provoke him and people will be hurt. Let's see where this takes us. Over and out"
"Alright I'm here!" yelled Pious, loud and clear enough for the news cameras to transmit, even from their safe distance. "You didn't have to level a religious building or murder a school full of children just to call me out you know. I purposely made it known to you crazy villains where I work. Unlike Big Game and the other hunters, I'm not hiding. I have no fear for the Countess or her minions! Machine, man or demon! You cannot kill what has already been killed, for I am the Priest and I am risen. Reborn a prophet, a messenger of the Lord. My holy spirit communes with the angels and for as long as I serve the Most High, my essence cannot be destroyed. Harm this vessel and my spirit shall only return anew. My faith is strong and is to be shared with the world. My destiny cannot be ended by the likes of you or the Countess for I am among the avatars of Light. My existence is paramount to the balance of Good and Evil. So unto thee I say this; thou abomination of the crucifix, your attempt to kill me is futile. Better be it that you seek redemption yourself. Moth Cathedral is right there in the phone book if next time you want a chat. I would gladly give you a healing, for that is what I do. Is redemption not what you want? Then it is what you need."
"...Is he ill? Possessed? Just plain damn stupid?"
"Surprisingly, it would appear not. Or, at least, people don't seem to consider him so, dear."
"I could always crack him open and do an autopsy. Funnily enough, the brain does actually show certain signs of-"
"Come on, Lawrence, less science right about now. Get your mind back on the arcane, if you please."
"Father, that thing down there isn't magical. At least, it's shell isn't. Malta, did you say?"
"Yes, after the Knights of Malta. Who, if I may say so myself, have fallen quite a way in my esteem."
Three figures stood atop one of the taller buildings, watching the scene unfurl, listening to the Priests tirade.
"He's going to get absolutely flattened," the attractive young lady in skin-tight red quipped, flicking a tress of long black hair over her shoulder. "Pulped. Obliterated. Creamed...No, cheesed, even."
"Perhaps not," the black haired man next to her replied, brushing a bit of lint off his white suit. "He does seem fairly adept with a multitude of powers. That and, despite everything, he's quite hard to kill by the sounds of it."
"Something to put to the test, perhaps," the bespectacled, brown-haired younger man on his other side murmured, before brushing off his black trenchcoat as he stood up from a crouch on the edge of the building. "Are we here to do anything, father? Or just to observe?"
Leon DeFeurard's eyes blazed behind his ruby glasses as he glared at the giant robot.
"No," he stated, glancing at his daughter and the eldest of the two, Marie DeFeurard, then her younger brother, Lawrence DeFeurard. "Fighting, war and conflict is one thing. Murdering children? You know what I taught you about that."
They both nodded. Children were defenceless, temporarily innocent. Once a human reached eighteen or nineteen they were fair game, either which way. But not before then, and certianly not children. The same went for the elderly.
"After all," their father went on, moving to the edge of the building and taking a casual glance at the dizzying drop off the edge, "We have standards. And remember; balance. No...we shall see what the pacifist can achieve, if anything. Then it's time to show these mongrel dogs what real vampires can do." He grinned toothily, pulling a cigar from his waistcoat pocket and lighting it with a snap of his fingers. "Time to even the odds, hmm?"
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

TUNC EGO VADUM EXUO ANIMUS VOBIS SOMES, QUOD EXTRAHO IS UT PROFUNDUS VORAGO OF ABYSSUS!
<Then I shall strip the soul from you body, and drag it to the deepest pit of hell.>
As the machine intoned its threat its arms moved back and forth slightly, as they released and recoiled, again and again.
Thud, thud, thud.
The sound of anti-aircraft fire, not aimed at the Priest but at the skies around him, filling the air with explosions and shrapnel.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
Talos Island, Unknown Penthouse
Schmitt looked up as the thought entered his mind, he looked towards the barely used TV, "Elias; Command; Activate: Designation:- Television." The robot trundled and done as requested, Schmitt changed the channel to a news station and sighed, "Vater, du bist ein Narr." He muttered to himself, shaking his head and moving the wheelchair from the workbench to get a better view of the television. (Father, you are a fool.)
Do be careful, Father, that thing appears intent upon flattening you and leveling the town. I will be along, just in case, as soon as I can. Schmitt replied to Pious via the amulet and stretched, pushing himself from the wheelchair as the psionic energy around him focused upon supporting him, changing in a flash of energy he stood in his liquid metal and red trousers with a black vine pattern, his lower legs wrapped with white and protected with a similar, yet duller, metal plates as that of his liquid metal upper body.
"Elias; Command; Deactivate: Designation:- Television." Elias does this, "Elias; Command; Deactivate: Designation:- Self." Elias powers down as Schmitt vanishes in the blink of an eye, appearing on the roof of his penthouse, then leaps towards the nearest base portal. Once in he heads for the teleportation arch, hoping it's still calibrated for transportation next to Pious, luckily it is and he steps into appearing a few feet behind him as the missiles explode in the sky.

The machine bellows?
Like a cruel demon the machine roars in triumph advancing towards the fallen Priest, its every step smashing and ploughing through the ordinary things of normal, peaceful lives.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
"Tch." Leon flicked ash from the cigar, taking a last drag before crushing it to ash in his palm. "Angels, demons, banishment...give me a good old fashioned stake and a fight anyday," he muttured, before clapping Lawrence on the shoulder. "See to all that flipping metal confetti, will you lad? Marie, dear, we've got some mechanical backside to kick."
~~~
Huge gouts of flame scorched the air, shrapnel and exploding flames either melted or blown away on the updraft from the blankets of fire. Below them, Lawrence DeFeurard hovever with a calculating look on his face, occasionally muttering calculations aloud as he burned off the oxygen in the air around the shrapnel to produce a flame hot enough to destory it before it ever touched the ground.
Meanwhile, a pair of figure suddenly stepped out of thin air, right in front of the skull 'head' of the Demon Titan.
"Good afternoon, chap!" Leon exclaimed, grinning a little madly as his katana appeared in his hand. "Now, I can't contend with that pretty speech, but I'll do my best. I'm a complete and utter b*stard with attitude and new score to settle with the Court. Shoot me all you want; I'll spit your bullets right back at you. Step on me and I'll work my way in through your feet and bite you in the @rse. As we used to say back at school, Petro Abyssus; Go to Hell!"
So saying, Leon and Marie lunged at the thing, Marie drawing twin swords out of the air as she and her father began to attack the giant construct square in the face.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.
Pious's medicom activated and he later awoke to find himself mended under the Rikti-tech healing circles in Talos Island hospital. He jumped off the resting bed with a start, flashbacks of his death haunting him. The ordeal of being magically poisoned and shot to death. The punishment endured at the hands of the German supersoldier. The front doors of the clinic flung open as a delirious Pious Hunter rushed out, gasping for air.
"Alright this thing is serious" thought Pious, via his amulet. "From out here it looks like Freedom Corps and the PCPD are already mobilising. I'll try to contact our allies but we'll need a plan. Any ideas?" Pious pulled out his cellphone and dialled the Foundry, Dunelm and Wolves. "This is Pious Hunter please respond."
So saying, Leon and Marie lunged at the thing, Marie drawing twin swords out of the air as she and her father began to attack the giant construct square in the face.
CRUO EST VITA!
<The Blood is life>
Blood dripped from the titans skull, flowing from its eyes, nose and jaws, only to suddenly spray with incredible force. The blood was tainted, mixed with the blood of various vampires, to have it enter your system would no doubt leave a mortal man bound to the will of the vampire donors, and cursed to rise from their grave upon death.
But it was not the infection that made this attack dreadful, but the pressure, the blood flowed with such restrained force that it became in effect a hydro-cutter, capable of sheering through steel.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
The machines dreadful eyes dimmed, again it bellowed but this time the sound was strangely... liquid... organic?
Leon lowered his hand, the palm glowing slightly from the jet of flame he had just unleashed.
"Hmn. Frontal assault; bad idea. Plan B, m'dear," he shouted to Marie, teleporting away before the thing could spew again. She nodded, backflipping off the construct and freefalling to the floor, landing perfectly with cat-like grace, before launching herself at the things knees, hacking ferociously at any exposed joints and servos she could.
Lawrence and Leon, meanwhile, set to the victims bound to the giant construct, Leon delivering what mercy and relief he could with quick movments of his blade, before Lawrence immolated the bodies, leaving nothing but ash to prevent them rising as undead.
"We do what we can, in this veil of tears," Leon muttured, as if quoting something, a sad expression on his face as he worked.
Schmitt's disorientation lasted long enough to miss the beginning of the fight, but as soon as his wits were about him his shield appeared, fanning out made from the liquid metal, with a grin in his words he called out to the robot, tinging it with a psychic allure, his shield pulling back as he vanished and appeared 'falling' sideways, out of a rift brimming with Psionic energy, he barreled into the robots midriff as the vampire's backed off, "Tincan! Ignore the mosquitoes!"
Drawing back slightly as he lands with a crash, less gracefully than the female vampire he pulled his shield above his head just in case, extending pillars of general fear and darkness from his psionic ability, trying to ensnare the beast.
Up close, the attention to detail and sheer artistic nature of the machines design are easy to see. Each exposed bolt and rivet of the machines armour is an exquisite silver finished pentagram, the cables and joints are wrapped in a blood lacquered leather like hide, and it is this material that takes the first impacts, splitting slightly but preventing the blade from driving deeper.
The heroes impact occurred just as the machine was stepping forward, throwing it off balance, though it does not yet fall, it collides with a house smashing into the building, its weapons no longer trained on the heroes as it frees itself from the debris.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
In a dark throne room, a man watched three glowing orbs swirl around in a circle, one was red, another blue and the last green.
They hovered in a line for a moment as the man looked between each orb, they each showed a different image, the blue orb showed a view from the top of a building, the green orb showed a dank alleyway and the street it lead too while the red orb showed a small room, a throne sat a mere 3 metres away.
The man watched them lazily, as he sat back in his chair, his head resting on his hand.
Slowly 4 glowing white orbs rose from the floor in the corner, forming a diamond shape they seemed to connect to each other through a beam of light, an image appearing in the gap between them.
The man looked up slightly, his interest peaked, he had created the orbs to monitor Pious hunter the best he could, though he himself was away at times so could not watch them constantly, the priest was within Paragon city which always messed with his signal and of course whenever the priest even went near the Worn cover his signal was immediately lost, whatever protection they used at their bookshop was greater than the magic he was using to spy on him.
Today however the orbs found a clear picture, the priest was shouting to someone, no....something! An enormous robot, fire and death filled the street surrounding it, it fired into the air as a glimmering man of silver seemed to appear from nowhere, the image was lost for a bried moment, as it cleared the priest could be seen on the floor before he was teleported away.
The man smiled, leaning forward he watched the images with a sense of glee and the hope that the priest was perhaps a little more damaged than he appeared.
As more seemed to attack the robot the man slowly lost his smile, the robot had shouted "The blood is life" in Latin, the motto of the Court of the Blood Countess, as blood flew through the air he saw the markings on the Titan, the Courts own crest, Countess Bathorys own crest.
He looked at the red orb, it still hovered in mid air.
"No....ive seen these past days events....no...."
The man became enraged, whipping out his hand from beneath his cloak he stood upright, arm outstretched he opened a portal in mid air, fire seeminly flowing around the hole, he jumped through.
Landing on the ground on the other side he looked up to see the robot fighting the people around him, some unknowns and a silvery man with a shield, one of the Nighthunters, he was sure of that much at least.
Slowly he rose into the air, facing the robot from a distance as it staggered a little from its opponents attacks.
He spoke in anger, his voice booming through the street.
"Hear me creation! I am Erez'Zul, Templar of the Countess' Court, i know not of what you are or who created you, but i do know this, the Countess does not use technology such as you, and in such a hastily way."
He looked down at the carnage around him, the bodies littered the streets as they continued to burn.
"If you are of the Courts doing then cease your attack, if not....then burn!"
Erez'Zul breathed in, his stomach growing slightly until he breathed out as if whistling, except instead of air coming out, fire shot from his mouth as if it were liquid, flying through the air directly at the Titan robot.
Blade flew onto the scene, focusing on the giant robot. He assessed the situation quickly and knew what he was going to do. Without saying a word to his fellows, he unleashed a bout of dark energy at the machines front armour, following up quickly with a spinning spear tip attack towards the machine. He muttered to himself as he flew towards the machine at speed "please let this work".
((Defense roll 16))
Luckily for the machine, the waves of fire and energy strike each other, robbing them of some of the impact, unluckily for the grisly trophies they still hit, burning those that have yet to be given mercy.
((Defense roll 8))
The spear drives true and deep, when it is withdrawn heated blood spurts through the hole in its armour plating, Blade has struck one of the pipelines for the machines blood cutter attack, severely weakening that attack.
The machine stops for a moment...
UT VOS ORDO
<As you order>
With three heavy steps it turns its back on the blazing school, stepping forward back down its trail of destruction.
Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.
Erez'Zul stopped immediately as the robot spoke again, hovering in place for a moment he began to wonder if the giant mech really was some sort of scheme by the Countess.
Deciding to halt his attack he flew further upwards, getting an overhead view of the street below him and the people still attacking the robot.
A flame appeared on his finger, drawing a circle in front of him with it the circle began to shimmer like a mirror.
He spoke through it, a way to speak to the Countess if he could get to her.
"My Countess, there is some troubling events happening right now that bare your crest, i had sought to destroy this mockery of the Court but....now i could be wrong, i seek guidance on the subject.."
He waited to see if his message had gotten through to its intended target.
Schmitt halts, watching the robot, shield up, suddenly confused by it's apparent retreat, "This thing shouldn't be allowed to walk away, pointing one arm at the robot, shield arm by his side casually he calls out, "Hey! Tincan! You forgot something!" with this he tries another attempt to pull the Titan's attention with a long range psionic jab added in, just trying to grip it's attention as best he can. "Come on, you can't be that much of a coward, we barely scratched you!" Schmitt focuses on applying the psionic pressure as best he can to the Titan, hoping it's enough to stop it and bring it back to fight
Leon and Lawrence landed beside Marie, having finally finished with their mission of mercy to the tortured occupants of the titans gantries. The DeFeurard sire growled quietly, lips curling slightly with distaste.
"Disgusting creation. If it is the work of Bathory, the girl's just gone down in my estimates. And that's saying something. Bring it to it's knees," he added with a sideways glance. "Where it belongs."
The DeFeurard siblings nodded once, before rejoining the fray. This time all three focussed their attacks on the things legs, Leon attacking the right knee, Marie the left, while Lawrence hovered behind it, blasting the joints with barrages of intense flame, attempting to cause an over-heat and siezure even if the other two could not cause direct physical damage.
“UT VOS ORDO”. With three heavy steps it turns its back on the blazing school, stepping forward back down its trail of destruction.
"Why?" he asked, looking across the distance, directly at the monstrous machine. "Why have you done this? QUARE IUGUOLO LIBERI?" he yelled, his voice resounding across the street. "WHY THE CHILDREN? What kind of senseless evil commits this deed most foul? Have your masters no shame? Does your madness know no bounds? Kill me then! Take my soul and let it be done with. Do it! Kill me and put a stop to this all. This war has gone on for long enough and much blood has been shed. I cannot without spiralling into madness myself, have more innocents die, because of my mission. So let it be done with... I quit!"
Blade looked in Pious' direction in disbelief. This disbelief lasted for only a moment, there was a job to do. He flew up high, as high as he could and then turned and looked down at the giant machine below. As he watched the machine moving, he sent a message to Pious over the amulets. "Pious, get out of here! I'll shout at you for that stupid comment later you hear me?! Right now we need to focus on ending this machine and if your wallowing in your grief too much to do that then get out of the danger zone, because right now, your not helping anyone!" With that, Blade went back to his duties.
Turning into a nose dive, his sword at his side, Blade plumetted with all the speed and power he could muster. He aimed for centre of the machine, hoping to punch right through it, using dark energy to form a second spear tip around his entire body.
"My Countess, there is some troubling events happening right now that bare your crest, I had sought to destroy this mockery of the Court but....now I could be wrong, I seek guidance on the subject.."
"Explain!?", she declared short but firm. And in the mids of the battle the sorcerer gave a fast description of the modified titan, its actions and the response of the Heroes of the city. Especially of the Priest!
"Although it would not be my first choice to attack and to kill children, I am rejoyced that it has a well desired effect. The deed is done... let the robot proceed. I don't know at the moment who made it... but that is not important right now.", she pauzed for just a second trying to see what was happening behind her Templar. "You gave a description of a wonderful machine... Try to repair any damage that has been done to it in the fight and let it run free. I am not in control of it but I am sure he or she who is will contact me in time."
