Do Baddies Die When They Hit The Ground?

So, I was bored and was just cruising around Imperial City when I wanted to try an experiment called "Do Baddies Die When They Hit The Ground?" So, I found a nice tall building and with my level 16 Elec/Elec Dominator, shot a couple sparks at them on top the roof. Of course this got them agitated and as I pulled away from the roof, like any other intelligent NPC in this game (heh heh), they followed me by leaping off the roof.

Now I know when you jump off a building with your own toons you won't die but your health bar will drop down to a sliver of life. I had to know if this was the case with the NPC's. Well, as they "skydived" off the building (which is what it looks like they're doing...lol), I immediately dropped down to the ground and was ready with the body bags when to my surprise, they were all alive but, like us with our toons, only had a sliver of life.

I also did this same experiment with my MM and her Bots. I had the little guys jump off a tall building in the Rikti War Zone. Yes, they all lived but only had a sliver of life left. My guess is that the program is set-up this way in the game. Anyways, this brings us back to how smart the AI is with these NPC. If you have flight or hover, lead them off a building and watch them jump. Especially nice tall buildings in Imperial City...heh..heh. I guarantee you will get a nice chuckle like I did in watching these guys "swan dive" off these rooftops, holding their arms out like that's going to help them fly....lol.

Too funny.

I think that if people didn't know the AI for enemies was required to ride the short bus by now... there might be an issue. After all, if you throw a boulder at an enemy and hide, they ALL pile up on you fighting each other to be a little closer. How smart is that?

I do this every Halloween when the zombie apocalypse starts....it works with Rikti Invasions as well.

Hover just off the edge of a tall building, just close enough for the game to register that you are near some uncovered ground (IE: the rooftop) and both zombies and Rikti will start spawning in midair.

It give me no end of fun to see them pop into existence, hang there for a moment until the AI registers that they are not on solid ground, and see them plummet to the streets below Wile E. Coyote style.

I swear I've seen more then a couple *Piff* clouds appear when they hit....

Eagles may soar, but Pigions don't get sucked into Jet engines.

Let's see If I see a guy that can pick up boulder and throw it at me. A boulder that apparently has a homing device because the damn thing follows me after I move out of it's trajectory, even around corners. Then I'm pretty sure that I'd think the safest place for me to go would be as close to the guy throwing the boulder as possible.

Why?

Because I'm hoping that

a. Pretty boy won't try throwing homing boulders at me when I'm right next to him.

b. Or I can dodge at the last instant and let the boulder smash pretty boy in the face.

I've seen enough of those damn cartoons to know that the coyote never manages to get safely away from the boulder chasing him.

I though enemies didn't even take fall damage.

Oh well. The more you know.

Several years ago, after one particular Issue was released, there were random fights between Council and Fifth that'd break out on the street. These days you see spawns of both in a staged fight, but for that particular event two spawns would pop up and duel to the dea...defeat. Players of course would join in and target them all.

Well, one day I was in Kings Row, way over-leveled for that zone, just flying around watching the various fights. Came upon one, where the spawn of Council popped on the ground, but for some reason the spawn of Fifth happened up on a high rooftop. Of course all the Fifth leaped off the building determined to get at their sworn enemies. I have to imagine them all yelling "CHAAAAARGE!" or the equivalent. All ten of them landed with about 5 hp left, and a single Council rocket took out the lot. They all went flying.

I've laughed harder in this game, but it was close.

Actually, what the heck, I'll tell you of the time I actually did laugh the hardest, since it's on-topic too. I was flying around Mercy with my Gravity/Ice Dom, again way-overleveled, I forget why I was there. Anyway, I see a lone Longbow Lt in a tower, and decide to use Lift.

Well, instead of the usual 10 feet or so, she flies about 30 feet up, since I'm like +20 to her. And she doesn't drop straight back down, oh no, she flies up and over. And I hadn't noticed before, but this tower was at the edge of a cliff. So probably 500 feet later, she splats on the beach, with the remaining 5 hp. An Infected promptly pulls a shotgun and blasts her.

Took me about 5 minutes to get off the floor. Couldn't have planned it in a thousand years if I'd tried.

That's odd, I could have sworn I've seen many enemies die when I fought them on a rooftop and they tried to flee at low health by diving off. I never had any DoT on them.

It'd only happen via a bug. Baddies are like players in that respect.

I'm not positive, but I recall reading that long long ago, in the original beta or possibly alpha, you could die via falling, but it was changed either before launch or very shortly after. I started a month after and the current mechanic was in place.
