I don't have Alienware (overpriced garbage), but I am pretty curious as to what this means exactly.

Anyone know? Any replies appreciated.

Alienware Lighting Support

  • There is a new AlienFX section under Menu -> Options -> Graphics and Audio.
  • AlienFX support is defaulted to "on" so any player with the AlienFX Command Center and appropriate hardware will instantly see color changes.
    • In City of Heroes / City of Villains, the lights will change as a player's character changes their alignment from Hero to Vigilante to Villain to Rogue.
    • In Praetoria the lights will change as players make moral choices between Resistance or Loyalist.

They probably got paid a sizable sum to program it. Besides, it does not sound terribly complex.

Yea, I really can't imagine it taking any significant amount of development time.

If I had to take a guess at it...either Alienware paid them to include it or somebody saw the feature, noticed the SDK and said "huh cool, let me see if I can do something with that" and hacked it up in their spare time.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was both, Frost. Someone saw the SDK, and starting doing it in their spare time. Then, at some point, all unaware that someone was doing just that, Alienware said, "Hey!! Listen!! Wanna make a couple bucks?"

There was a contest (ended) on Zam.com for Going Rogue with the grand prize being an Alienware laptop. I'm guessing it's one big happy merchandising tie-in promotion they have between them.
