Problem patching. (I thought I18 was tomorrow?)

So, I launched the updater recently, and it started verifying a patch. After trying to apply it, I got a pop-up that said, "Error opening file c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\city of heroes/tempfile". (It also mentioned something about possibly not having permission or running out of space, both which can't be true as I have a good 11GB of space left and am on my admin account.)

I'm really confused as to why this would be. Steam problem? (I doubt it.) Couldn't be hardware... what's going on?

that is probably 10% free space on your hard drive. you need to clean it out and free up space. you should not have anything less then 25% free. get rid of some of the music and pics to a disc. that way you have them stored also if something happens to your hard drive and it will free up alot of space. then do a disc clean up and defrag.

I have 300 gigs of free space and received the same error. It's still doing stuff, so I haven't been able to see what's effected - But if it finishes up and there's a problem, I'm leaning more towards the permission issue than the lack of space issue.

The wife is having problems applying the new patch on her laptop. As soon as the apply starts it says, "Failed to rename C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe to C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.old"

Click okay on the failure box and the updater closes.

Any workarounds you guys can suggest?

Could try copying cohupdater.exe to a different location and running it from there.

I got the missing temp file error. I quit updater and restarted it and it worked.
It verified my image, fixed some files (32.9MB), verified my image again then I was ok to go.

Support suggested deleting the .exe file. I couldn't do anything to the file because the computer said the file was running. With the four year old driving me nuts-o, I didn't think to restart the computer until about 10 mins ago. After that, I was able to send the .exe to the recycling bin. Now the updater is "fixing" the .exe file, it says an hour. Of course, the wife wont let me have fun with the game until I can get her's running.

Sigh... wonder what's on TV...
