Enhancement Advice, Anyone?
Typically, for any character I make, regardless of build, when given the option to add new enhancement slots every other level, I prioritize the powers I find most useful or have had the most struggles with in performance, to a maximum of 3 slots. When buying enhancements, I first focus on which of my powers allow for accuracy enhancements and fill those up. If all of my accuracy powers have been fully enhanced, I usually try to boost recharge speed on the others I can unless they use a lot of endurance (or unless they're travel powers, in which case I try to boost my speed). If they use a lot of endurance, I decide whether it's more important to increase the effect of the power per use or decrease the endurance it takes from me.
I'd like to pick your brains and ask, is this the most effective way to use my enhancements? Would you change anything in general, or in specific builds? What do you do with your characters? |
Attacks: 1 Acc/3Dam/ 1 End/1 Rech. Never going with Recharge until and EndRed goes in first.
Toggles: 1 End, 3 Defense (or whatever)
Passives: 1 or 2 slots. (Eventually 2 L50 Common IOs)
There are exceptions for oddball powers, and I usually IO out along the way nowadays.

(5% Toxic resistance anyone)

Sometimes what works for one power isnt what you want on another. At lower to mid levels, I will sacrifice a slot of endurance for a slot of damage, IF the power Im adding that damage to is a major attack power or a nice AoE power. But, If its my first attack power, at level 50, I will only have it 4 or maybe 5 slotted usually since it is the least damaging in most cases.

Looks to me like you're on the right track, but you can always dig through the Player Guides section (<--linky) for more specific slotting advice targeting specific ATs.
(I suggest starting with the Guide To Guides, second Sticky from the top)
For best slotting advice, you should visit the guides section and look at aguide written for your build.
Or ask in the AT section for your AT (specify the powersets chosen). Many of the AT sections have a following of number-cruncher types that will be happy to advise you, particularly if you lay out the desired parameters of enhancement (i.e. "SO-only", Common IOs, Set IOs of a low budget, "Unlimited Inf Dream-Build", etc.)
Thanks everyone for the quick response and good advice. *Goes to check out the Player Guides*
I tend to slot attacks with 3 Dam, 2 Acc, 1 End/Recharge/whatever.
Toggles usually get 3 End, 3 Def/Res/Whatever
Other powers typically get 3 of the primary effect and 2 accuracy if they're targetted.
This, of course, changes dramatically when using set I/Os. I'm currently going for recharge as set bonus goals, I already have about 18% global recharge reduction, so I don't slot recharge specifically into most powers (unless it's part of a set).
NEW PLAYER WARNING:
Many times people make assumptions when talking about slotting, and don't realize that they're making assumptions.
Common assumptions:
* The character in question is level 50
* The character in question is level 22+
* The player understands what Invention Enhancements do, thoroughly
* The player understands what SO's do, thoroughly
* The player understands Enhancement Diversification
* The player has a multi-billion-inf budget
...and others which do not occur to me.
Which of the previous assumptions are valid for you?

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
Did you know that activating one attack is generally the same as running a standard toggle for one to five minutes, depending on the attack and the toggle?
One endrdx in an attack is generally two to five times more effective than a single endrdx in a toggle.
Example:
Tanker > Super Strength > Jab costs 3.54 endurance; combined with the activation/recharge rate, that works out to about 1.15 end per second.
Tanker > Super Strength > Jab with one white SO (33.3%) costs 2.65 endurance; combined with activation/recharge, that works out to .86 eps, a savings of .29 eps.
Tanker > Invulnerability > Temporary Invulnerability costs .26 eps. This is already lower than the amount of eps that Jab is reduced by if you slot one endrdx in it.
Tanker > Invulnerability > Temporary Inulnerability with one white SO costs .2 eps, a reduction of .06 eps. Read that again: you only save less than one tenth of an endurance point per second.
Tanker > Super Strength > Punch slotted with one endrdx saves .25 eps.
Tanker > Super Strength > Haymaker slotted with one endrdx saves .23 eps.
Tanker > Super Strength > Knockout Blow slotted with one endrdx saves .17 eps.
Tanker > Super Strength > Foot Stomp slotted with one endrdx saves .21 eps.
Get the picture? Slotting more than one endrdx in a toggle is such a waste of slots. Instead, put those two extra slots per toggle in something useful, like an attack that uses a lot of endurance.
