Except for a few movies and anime screenings, the only thing to do on preview night is wander the exhibit hall. So you aren't missing much by not going to preview night. Personally I had a lot more fun attending various panels on Thursday through Sunday. During my downtime between panels I had plenty of time to wander the exhibit hall to buy stuff and collect swag.

I'm surprised you had down time between panels. I skipped most of the panels I wanted to see because it seemed I would have to get in line 2-3 hours before they started in order to get a seat.

And Preview Night is actually the perfect time to shop in the Exhibit Hall and/or arrange commissions from the artists in attendance. I'm glad I decided to buy my 4-day (+ Preview Night) pass for next year on Thursday. Now I just have to worry about getting a hotel room, as usual.

Well, I ended up going to a bunch of low profile panels. The only real wait I had was getting into Hall H for the WB pannel on Saturday morning. And the only reason I even got into the Mythbusters panel was that I went hours earlier to that room for Warehouse 13/Eureka panel and didn't leave. And for that one, I got there one panel early and sat through Cartoon Voices I which I HIGHLY recommend. Definitely my favorite unplanned panel that I attended. But the rest I ended up going to were still fun. Heck, the 'Iron Man and Rocket Men" panel before the CoH panel was really interesting.

Besides, I don't really have room for collectibles anymore. The only things I actually got at the exhibit hall were an Emily the Strange poster and Super Stuper #3 (plus a free sketch from Randy). I also got an autograph from Bill Moseley (Otis from the Devils Rejects) in the Sails Pavilion. I did find time to wander the entire exhibit hall, but there wasn't a whole lot that jumped out and screamed "BUY ME!!!!!".
