What character should I make?

Ok, so here's the deal. I created a character a long time ago that I've played across multiple games. She is a mutant with psychic/telekinetic powers and very limited healing. I'm trying to find what class/power set combo would do this best for me. I spend most of my time soloing, with very little teaming up. I have an Emp/Psy Defender right now that is very boring to play solo. Is there a character that would work better for me?

I agree with Decorum.

Mind/Emp? Mind/Thermal will free up quite a bit to take other pools on a solo build, and you can add more team utility on a second build. There's also Mind/Rad which will help you a great deal - but you'll find yourself wanting to take almost everything.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll try that out.

IMo, this would be perfect if the healing set didn't use that machine thingy.

Mind/emp. Don't take many emp heals. Explain buffs as encuraging them psychically.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Controllers look interesting. I'll try this out as well and see which one I like more. Thank you both.

There is also the Dominators red-side where you could run Gravity Control/Psionic Assault or Mind Control/Psi.

I thought about a Dominator, she was originally an evil character. But I'm liking blue side right now. And I hadn't actually thought about Illusionist. Might have to try that too. I see this character getting deleted and remade many times, lol. I will say, this is the only thing I miss about Champions Online: Being able to pick what ever powers I want for my character. Thanks for the tip.

Hero-side:

Psychic/Mental Manipulation Blaster (w/Medicine)
Mind/Rad Controller
Mind/Thermal Controller
Mind/Empathy Controller
Grav/ Controller (this is more of a 'flavor' concept since many of the Gravity powers can seem like they are extensions of telekinetic abilities)

That's what comes to mind hero-side. There's others of course.

Villain-side:

Mind/Psi Dominator (w/Medicine)
Fortunata VEAT (w/Medicine)
Psychic/Pain Corruptor
Psychic/Thermal Corruptor

There's probably a few more options hero-side than villain-side, but I like the character classes in CoV just a little bit more... with the exception of the Defender.

Some mature controller builds are the most powerful characters in the game; Ill/Rad for example is one of the very few combinations that can solo Giant Monsters... with a fairly high end build of course, but most are quite capable even on SO enhancements once they mature, just not at quite that insane a level. Most controllers are somewhat slow starting and struggle in the early levels but quite a few get really strong in the mid-30's and beyond.

Mind is an oddball controller set, it actually starts out pretty strong but it peaks early; below 30 it's frequently stronger than most other controllers but once other sets reach 32 and get their pets they generally pull ahead. Mind is still quite capable though; I have a Mind/Kin at 50 and it's a good character. It just isn't on the same level as my other controllers, a 50 Fire/Rad, 50 Ill/Rad and 44 Plant/Storm.

COH has just been murdered by NCSoft. http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes

Yeah, Illusion is like a blue-side MM. Having the ability to summon 6 pets (albeit uncontrollable) is pretty big.

There is a distressing possibility to bring up: ANY character may be very boring for you to play solo. Admittedly, if you're playing [say] a blaster you'll do damage about 2.5 times faster, but you're still going to be, pretty much, shooting small and simple groups of badguys and reading [hopefully interesting] text in between.

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.

It was more the speed of the fights then anything else. I'm only level 8, and none of the secondary Psychic powers have very short cooldowns. So I seem to spend a lot of time just sitting there.

Well, at level 8, lots of the powers seem to take forever to recharge. It's because you're a lowbie.

It gets faster, though.

That being said, Defenders do solo a bit slower in general (don't yell at me, defender fans, I have several of them myself) because their attack powers are in their secondary powerset. Controllers also solo a bit slower at lower levels because their powers are more about control than they are about damage. Blasters deal loads of damage, but staying alive can be a challenge (slowing down your levelling) - maybe not so much for an experienced computer gamer.

So far, I see that no one else has mentioned is that you will soon be able to create a character that starts out as a villain and then reforms (by purchasing the upcoming Going Rogue expansion) - so if you see a Dominator or Corruptor set of powers that fits better, you can use that option to recreate your character.

Altoholic - but a Blaster at Heart!
