Plant/Fire Dominator, Carrion Creeper slotting.

Demon Keeper

I'm thinking about making another attempt at a Dominator. For now, I've got my eyes on a Plant/Fire/Leviathan. I plan to mainly use Incinerate, Fire Blast and Blaze for single-target damage, with Flares to fill in the holes. Fire Breath for AoE damage, after they've clumped up from Seeds of Confusion. Carrion Creepers was a lot easier to make perma than I had expected, but I wasn't really sure how to slot it. Is it worth slotting damage in? How do procs work in it (do they get a chance with each attack, or once every ten seconds)? Does it need an accuracy enhancement?

Thanks for advice/insight.

Here is my build at the moment:

Haste way over slotted trying to hit perma-haste, CC doesn't even have end reduction. IMO the pet in plant control is useless on doms as your secondary is damage focused. I took on my controller and skipped it on my dom, i stand by my choice. Here's my doms build, he's sturdy and crazy fun.

I know that Hasten is a bit overslotted, but that for extra recharge to make it perma. It's the cheapest way to squeeze out a little extra, and I figured I had the two extra slots anyways.

As far as the Carrion Creeper slotting goes, that's part of why I'm here.

Useless? Far from it.

Slot your pets with procs, and you'll see a difference.

You can fit multiple damage procs in carrion creepers, explosive strike/trap of the hunter/positron's blast really can help.

Just my 2 cents.

As far as I know, yes, you'd be surprised, Carrion Creepers is a special power. It obeys all the rules of the 10 second proc timer, but thats for every single creeper, and every enemy hit has the chance to proc off whatever proc that it can. It procs from the creeper attacks, as well as the pulsating immobilze rounds as well. So with say 2-3 good damage procs in it, you'll see it go off quite often. I've seen it do pretty decent damage, alongside whatever AoE you already have. It especially works well alongside seeds.

Though IMO any pet you can slot with damage procs, you should because that does help their damage output by a noticeable amount.

This is not quite how it works.

Each part of Carrion Creepers will only fire proc's if they match the type of attack for that part. Let's look at the proc from Positron's Blast for an example.

When you summon CC's, it will spawn the CC Patch, Vines, and a Bramble patch. The patch spawns attempt to fire the Posi AoE proc with its immobilize every 10 seconds. The Bramble power does no damage and will ignore the proc. The Carrion Creeper Vines have two powers: Vine Smash and Throw Thorns. The Positron proc will not fire in either of these powers because they are both single target.

The proc with the highest rate of fire in CC is probably Impeded Swiftness: Chance for Smashing Damage. It will fire in the initial summoning due to the Bramble and every time that the Vines attack because of the movement slow in those powers. Positron and Trap of the Hunter will have a chance to fire every 10 seconds against enemies hit with the Entangle (which has a target cap of 5). Explosive Strike's proc will have a chance to fire when the Vines use their Smash attack, but this is against a single target.

I prefer using Explosive Strike and Impeded Swiftness. While the Vines only have single target attacks, several Vines attacking and those powers cycling every 4 seconds means they have fairly good rate of fire.

To back up what Ketch says, there have been several tests on carrion creepers as well and the enhancement slotting follows the same rules as the proccing. Meaning if you put a Posi Acc/Dam into it, the accuracy and the damage offer zero bonus to the single-target vine attacks. NADA. Zip. Zilch. No Lexus for you.

For best results slot it with two Acc/Dam Hami-O's, two Recharge IOs, the Impeded Swiftness proc, and any other 1 selection of your choice.

But no matter how you go with it, I immensely recommend at least one Acc/Dam hami-o. A level 53 if you can afford it, but they are very spendy.
